Yep, drama-Luke is practically an angel compared to book-Luke, who can come off as truly scary and intimidating. Plus, in the book, their relationship truly is messed up. All of these details have been softened in the drama so much that some of Flora's grievances don't even fully make sense in the drama.

This material theft/withholding is absolutely outrageous! And to think that they actually shot so much more of the drama and then cut it out in editing.

It's not just you. The original novel is 900 pages long. The drama was filmed to be 32 episodes. During editing, 8 episodes worth of scenes were cut out to make the story fast-paced and to make the drama acceptable for Chinese state censorship. The end result is this rushed experience. It is such a shame because they literally shot 32 episodes. I'm NEVER getting over the 8 episodes we lost.

Exactly this. Script writers should have adjusted Flora's reactions based on the changes they made in Luke's character (which frankly I'm quite glad they did). But its like drama-Flora is reacting to book-Luke. It makes the story lose coherence. No wonder poor Flora has been receiving a hate train in the comments section. I wouldn't get it either, if I wasn't in the process of reading the novel. This one is on the script writers.

I have read 500 out of the 900 pages. I will definitely finish the novel. I'm dying to know all the material that was cut out from the drama.

The novel is 900 pages long. So much context and material was cut out and Luke's personality was made softer for the drama adaptation that Flora's reactions don't even make full sense. On top of that, shooting a 32 episode drama and only airing 24 episodes. It is the ultimate travesty. I'm so sad we didn't get to have the full 32 episodes T_T

I think people have seen multiple trailers of the next episode and are talking about the scenes shown in the trailers.

Yeah. I'm being taken out by how they shot 32 episodes and we will only get 24. This is on a different scale of outrageous than the minor censorship we see in other C-dramas, only a few scenes cut, not the equivalent of 8 episodes cut. It is such a shame.

The main problem with the drama adaptation is that the script writers have significantly changed Luke's character from the novel and turned him a lot softer and nicer. In the novel, Luke is standoffish, hasn't defined their relationship in 500 out of the 900 pages of the novel. Novel-Luke definitely doesn't call Flora his GF to her face let alone to his friends and he hasn't apologized to her for his harsh words even once. The dynamic of their relationship is very different in the novel. Now the problem with the drama adaptation is that Luke's character has been softened but Flora's reactions and behavior has been kept exactly the same. This has created a rift in the story. The way Flora behaves in the drama makes perfect sense in terms of how Luke treats her in the novel, but not the drama-Luke. The script writers should have re-written Flora's character too, when they changed Luke's character so much. The script writer's decision has made the adaptation nonsensical in terms of how both parties behave and react to each other.

The OP is talking about how the drama was shot to be 32 episodes and then cut down to 24 episodes. I suspect that is the doing of the Chinese Censor Board (I don't know the exact details). It is damn shame. Cutting that many episodes is going to make the story so rushed. The people who have read the 900 page novel are rightfully worried that the remaining 4 episodes can't do justice to the story which is still left.

Same. I keep seeing such comments and keep losing my mind thinking that I slept through critical scenes. I haven't been sleeping enough and I usually end-up watching the episodes at odd hours. To make matters worse, I got so sick of 1 episode per day this week that I started reading the novel. Luke in the novel is very different from the drama adaptation. He is much, much, much more cold and frigid. Their relationship is way more effed up in the novel. Reading the book and watching the drama side by side has me so confused. Now I even worry if the breakup will make as much sense in the drama, because of the differences from the book. The drama writers have made Luke so much softer in the drama. He actually calls her his GF, which he hasn't said once or even acknowledged in 400 out of 900 pages of the novel... So I already have 2 versions of the story to keep up with, and seeing comments like this is making me go mad. I don't remember Luke calling her easy in either the novel or the drama. WHELPPPP!

Wait till Luke finds out that the dog is named Luke.. kekekeke
