I really hate the way they translated and placed it though...the banner made it so clear and obvious but the way they phrased the subtitles just comes off as ambiguous.

The episode count didn't change but I guess they ran out of screen time to flesh out the Argan arc better.
For instance, there was a beautiful farewell line in the novel, they could have still used in the drama but they condensed it down simply to ".. i will find you" a little too early into the series to really feel the impact. (As a stand-alone, what SE said was great but since they made him disappear in the drama, they could have done more).

It's questionable if you don't understand the dialogue and you are watching the drama in 1.25 + speed as some do.
Breaking the subtitles into 2 parts instead of adding the full text in one screen can be misinterpretted as Paltima kidnapped the Koreans as well. If Netflix just simply said Izmael militants instead of "armed militants there" there will be no doubt on who the drama supports.
(Note : i didn't even notice the country names until it was brought up here since I was looking at Heeju's reactions instead of focussing on the subs so I only saw the second line about the hostage situation and not about the airstrike. I just assumed "militants there" were related to Argan🙈 Keeping the 2 lines together in one screen is important)

You are right but at this point I really don't think we'll get an official statement from either MBC or Netflix.
At worst they tried to push propoganda or at best (lesser evil), they tried to be woke by using current events but failed miserably by putting their own spin.
Some other contraversy is bound to happen soon that will make netizens lose focus on this so they probably will just let it go or use the "fictional country" approach

I just checked the netflix translation again-
"The ongoing Paltima airstrikes are taking place in Izmael, *where Korean nationals have been kidnapped by armed militants"* (the * bit is shown as a separate text instead of together with the first bit which is what's causing the confusion i guess)
The phrasing is very questionable since it can be intepretted in many ways.
Since the Koreans were taken by Izmael militants, it makes sense that the drama supports the fictional country Paltima. But because they did mention "Paltima's airstrikes at Izmael", it can be intepretted as supporting the fictional country- Izmael.
Personally though, if the Koreans were kidnapped by Izmael, AND IF the drama was trying to bring propoganda, it does sound like Izmael is the bad guy right?

a) Izmael militants kidnapped the Koreans (in the dialogue how did you interpret this bit?)
b) Paltima did an airstrike like you said
It's a weird way to phrase such a sensitive situation since it can be interpretted in many ways (point B for instance can mean that it was done in retaliation or as the perp for instance).
If they wanted to show the reality of war, they should have used a better approach.
Yes, they'll probably try to use the "fictious" approach or simply keep quiet. Another contraversy will eventually overshadow this so it's easier to sacrifice one drama over making an official stance.

In kdrama land it's acceptable - go save your poor husband from himself! I did love how HeeJu called him out on his actions though, showing that even the drama doesn't agree with SE's choice to punish himself.
I did love how raw both YYS and CSB's reactions were. It felt quite natural and you can feel their desperation and love ❤️🥲
The Baek family are at least consistant. I honestly nearly yelled at the dad for his stupidity and then when they showed him with his crocodile tears, it was almost laughable honestly 🤣🤣🤣
Kudos for noticing how the grandfather looked at SE in the flashback👏👏👏. I honestly didn't notice it and just suspected it based on the way he mentioned about not having a name by choice/ fisherman's fear when SE called him dad.
Using the ring to capture evidence was definitely a diabolical move!
My understanding on the reason why SE left was because of the way he is. He was pretty devastated when he found out that his 3 "warm" years together was a prison sentence for HeeJu so finding out that the root cause for ALL her suffering was because of his father probably killed him- specially since nobody got justice even.
(I mean based on the flashbacks it looked like Heeju got along with In Ah before the accident and the 3 kids seem to be happy and close together. I also heard that the son is Heeju's mum's child. If the accident didn't happen, Heeju's mum had no reason to force HJ to act pathetic around the Chairman since the mum gave the Chairman a son (since having a son in a chaebol family is considered a big deal). She would have doted on her son instead of taking out all her insecurities through HJ at least for the most part. In SE's pov, this is too much to bear, specially after finding out that HeeJu still chose him despite knowing everything.
SE also has his own share of unresolved trauma so this too could have influenced his decision (he was almost as bad as PDJ before he realised he couldn't stay away from HJ)🫠
This is pure speculation, but I think the novel writer researched the 2007 South Korean hostage crisis in Afghanistan…
