About DH and AJ's distance, in episode 1 they still had the same closeness. It was after DH revealed about his true chaebol identity, things started to get complicated since basically AJ had no idea about this for 15 years. The marriage contract further complicated things between AJ's hesitation, DH's over enthustiac cheers, and JH's meddling.
But you can see that in ep 10, they begin to have that old spark again by the end since everything is now out in the open.

If the grandfather really doesn't want to give the company to JH even if he is the best option, there's always the possibility of hiring a professional Manager outside or check for other internal connections.
Protecting DH is a strong enough motive to risk it all.
