It seems to be the trend to cut out the guests from the wedding. I would have loved to have seen the family including…
XG would never invite Rong or ZX . She even told Boss she was relieved that that chapter of her life is finally over after Rong leftšŸ˜…šŸ™ˆ

It would have been interesting to see if "Old man" Sheng would finally get to reunite with his daughter during the wedding since Lin would have wanted both present ideally.

Finally finished it. It was abt 80% similar to the books. They mostly added new scenes, but one important plot…
Honestly I kind of liked how things turned out for Rong. The way the novel went is too cliche and predictable for her character type in drama land. But the drama version kind of feels more relevant to the drama. The characters who refused to change failed and those who decided to change, benefited in one way or other eventually.

How big is the age difference between the leads? They "look" very close agewise however after watching…
It's 6 years. The ML is a child prodigy so he started his undergrad when he was 15 years old or so. He was around 26 in ep 1's flashback. He has only around 1 year or so experience as a "fully fledged" surgeon at that point.

You do have a point- the gap is a little unusual for cdrama standards. Then again I personally feel like in the past 2 years or so most modern cdramas have slowly phased out the "kids shortly after marriage" trope. I mean most usually end in marriage or being engaged or we end up with a time skip of around 5 years before kids are announced.

The 15 year gap of course is huge for cdrama standards but I guess since the original writer is the screenwriter and she's also a woman, I can kind of see her logic? It meets the target audience which is the 20-30s viewer base? This make it more relatable. Just like how she managed to keep the misunderstandings and (fragile FL) tropes to the minimum since she might know that the audience is too tired of seeing the same thing? I might be just overthinking of course.šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

(I personally used to find it funny how predictable most moden cdramas were a few years back since it's alway marriage and then bamn! Twins šŸ¤£šŸ™ˆ)

The only thing I’m still curious about is why did they have a daughter so late when they already pushed marriage…
The timing makes sense if you consider XG's age. She'd just graduated from uni (22 years old) when they met and she'd barely started by the time they got married (around 24).

She probably was around 32-33 when she gave birth. As a career woman, it makes sense- specially considering the fact that both Lin and XG grew up away from their parents for an extended time, they would have wanted to make sure they would be ready before having kids of their own.

Seeing as you liked Love is sweet, it might be worth giving the first 7 episodes or so a try?Fair warning, since…
Hope you enjoy it :)

In my case I started this after a finishing a drama that went heavily overboard with cliches in the last episode, so I think it indirectly helped me enjoy SOM more than I originally expected to.

YANG- haha even I skipped most of the "business" side story since it wasn't really my thing. Is Boss & Me good? I didn't realize I enjoyed Gu Man's work until I found out most of her dramas were ones I've enjoyedšŸ™ˆ

Finished drama ..kind of slow like first frost but sweet…wish they didn’t put so much lipstick on songwielong..he…
TBH XG was only close with the foodie friend and Boss from the college clique. I highly doubt Foodie friend would have invited ZX to her wedding since you can see she didn't really like him and unlike with Boss she might not have ended up marrying a mutual friend that would force her to invite him.

It's likely with time, the college clique kind of disbanded and lost touch? Or he willingly didn't participate since just like in Rong's case, it became clear that he needs to rethink his life's choices. Probably stayed away anyway so he doesn't hurt XG further too.

That's my understanding anywayšŸ™Š

Conflicted whether I should watch this or not. I love all Gu Man's previous adaptations, but besides those all…
Seeing as you liked Love is sweet, it might be worth giving the first 7 episodes or so a try?

Fair warning, since this is an office romance, the corporate subplot is kind of heavy in this drama. It's mostly related to China's PV industry growth between 2010s-present and a little bit on neurosurgery. Most of it is skippable though if it's not your thing. It's also very "local" tourism forward but again it depends on your taste. I personally found it interesting since I wasn't familar with the locations.

The obstacles are quite realistic for the most part and not too dramatic for drama standards so some might find the pacing too slow. But if you are into green forest romances, you might like it.

First 3-4 episodes might feel slow since they spend alot of time on the FL's background. But after this it gets better. If you find it too tedious, you can speed watch through her college days as long as you get the general gist of the FL, SML, and her college friends' relationship. Don't skip through the ML's flashbacks though since the scenes will be important in the future.

The SML has a lot of screentime (it's essentially his own side plot since most of the scenes don't include the FL) but it's fine for the most part. Annoying at times but not annoying enough to drop it if you get what I mean?

Best part is the MC because the FL and ML are well written even as individuals. The FL is able to solve her problems on her own usually and has a lot of common sense so it feels fresh compared to recent dramas. The ML cannot be mean even if he tried and is a huge schemer. There are barely any misunderstandings between them except for 1 main plot point. They are a true partnership. The romance is slow burn but they spend most of their time together from ep 9 or so onwards so you don't really feel it (IMO).

12 yrs later and ZX is still thinking of XG??? šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
Not really. He's moved on but still has regret. It's just seeing her after a long time kind of made him reminisce (specially since Chris knows about her too).

ZX no longer feels entitled and has accepted his fate so that's good.

What green screen? All locations in most of Chinese dramas are REAL. They only use CGI in fantasy dramas. For…
Local CGI- It's mostly in the last episodes (XG's desert solar panel field scenes towards the end). They didn't even try to hide the colour distortionšŸ˜…

They used it during the skii mountain arc as well (one of the last scenes before Lin"# family had to leave if I'm not mistaken). There were probably other scenes too, but these 2 kind of stood out for me (local wise).

Ok, I skipped forward quite a bit during the first episodes because those uni scenes were hard to watch. But did…
You are partially correct. It’s not really a blind date since the understanding was that Nie’s daughter SAW Lin at the event and fell in love with him at first sight. SHE was the one who egged their mutual friend into arranging the date. The only reason Lin accepted the date was because he too was interested in XG (he too saw her at the event but he didn’t get a chance to speak to her beyond a generic introduction) and was ecstatic to find out their interest was mutual..

Lin doesn’t blame XG for the accident (it’s reiterated several times throughout the drama).
The reason why Lin is hurt is because he was under the understanding that she was interested in him too but after the accident there was no contact at all - not even a simply ā€œget well soonā€ token. Given that he was already depressed after losing his career/ life’s work, he kind of got obsessed by the way she abandoned him without a second thought.

Unfortunately for XG, their first meeting at the office went in the worst way possible since the moment she said ā€œI don’t know you/ I have never seen you beforeā€, it triggered Lin’s obsession. It’s one thing for XG to cut him out of her life because she had some misplaced feelings of guilt over the accident/ not like him back as much as he was made to believe. But to actually completely erase his very existence from her mind just hit him hard. Yes, it sounds rather self centered but in his defense, the accident happened around 1.5 years back and he was made to believe that she was truly into him. IMO, If the guy I was super into met with a terrible crash on the way to meet me for the first time. Even if I cut ties with him, I wouldn’t be able to forget him so easily.

I can't understand why FL's father hate ml? He thinks so little of him even after knowing he is a doctor
It’s mostly to do with his alliance with Sheng Bok Kai (Lin’s uncle who hates him). We already know that Nie is an easily manipulated man so it wouldn’t be a surprise if over the years, SBK’s bias view of Lin may have polluted his mind. He also knows that most of the Shengs look down on Lin and probably is aware of the fact that Lin’s father was pretty much exiled. For an egotistical man like Nie it’s enough to look down on Lin.

After the whole accident debacle and finding out Lin has been targeting his close acquaintances to ā€œgain powerā€, Nie’s disdain grew further. Once Lin started to openly clash with Nie during business deals, his indifference towards Lin turned into dislike (but still not enough to keep tabs on him). The last straw for him was finding out that Lin was ā€œtargetingā€ his only daughter, XG.

Lin being a doctor isn’t enough for Nie since even when he had to get the surgery in ep 33, he still was willing to delay because he wanted the BEST. Since he’s looked down on Lin for so long, I’m guessing he just never expected an ā€œarrogant two faced social climberā€ to be a star in the medical field šŸ™ˆ

It is a classic case of a high-budget production relying on "S+ tier" actors to mask a hollow, propagandist…
Is propoganda that offensive though? To give a 1 star? Afterall we always knew this was going to be an office romance c-drama. It's nothing new šŸ˜…

As long as the viewers are smart enough to know that not everything is as glossy as they promote in real life, it shouldn't really hurt the masses.

It can even be insightful to see an industry you are not familiar with.
