Big fight between ppl in Duboku, i think ppl chinese mainland sent strong attacks on WOH, and ppl Hong Kong Taiwan…
Don't mind it, it's duboku. The most important is Douban as the site is for reviewing the drama. Also I don't think Duboku is legal source to watch the drama, the views, reviews and rating from there will not be counted.
While I enjoy WOH more than TU, one thing the latter did it right was paying enough for the creation of Wu Ji,…
I agree, perhaps it's relating to the budget as well so they can't afford music supervision/music score producer like TU. Also in WOH they don't have song writer to write lyric for the ending song. It's their scriptwriter writing it.
THIS THIS THIS!!!No offense but TYK character is hard to play due to so many layers. Every layers show different…
IKR!! Thank god in SHL we have passionate actors and passionate scriptwriter. She even altered several scenes from the book just to make it more interesting. Also the lines she wrote are poetic, very heavy and weighty.
If you speak mandarin, you can try to read this review in DB: https://movie.douban.com/review/13299168/ (you can translate it as well if you don't speak the language). So far for me, it's the best review.
Hi all, just saw a couple of reviews giving WoH low score because he/she only watched one episode and then wrote a review. Noted that people is entitled for their own opinion, but it's even valid to give 1 or 2 score just because you only watched one episode out of 36 episodes?
how do you identify idol from non-idol? I thought idol just mean pretty face???
A Chinese buzzword "liuliang"- literally meaning traffic or flow - which can be interpreted as denoting the size of fan base and commercial value. (--taken from GlobalChinese Times)
Liuliang stars are glamorous actors and singers who sometimes have not many professional skills to boast off yet can command countless fans with great business value probably owing to their good looks and good marketing from their management company.
Sad reality is, though it's a common practice, a number of movie and TV drama production teams are paying more attention to commercial value while ignoring good screenplays and production quality. As long as a star is commercially viable, numerous opportunities come calling and remuneration rates go through the sky regardless of acting skills. Meanwhile, good actors and actresses with fewer fans are cast aside :(
how do you identify idol from non-idol? I thought idol just mean pretty face???
Which is........ it should not be the case from now on because look at SHL, without idol with massive fanbase having 20+++ millions WB followers, the drama is flying due to good script and directing.
At the other hand, the drama with top top liuliangs isn't well received by general audience due to bad script, bad acting, bad production, etc. Fanbase can't represent general audience opinion imo. The most importance is, general public opinion.
no offense to anyone, but so glad they actually got real actors to play the roles instead of idols.
THIS THIS THIS!!!
No offense but TYK character is hard to play due to so many layers. Every layers show different emotions and multidimension character. No wonder ZZH, the actor with 10 years experience decided to accept the project, because the character is enhancing your acting experience.
I can't imagine if idol-turns-into-actor got to play the role. Idol is built as generalist not specialist, while actor is indeed focusing to acting with years of experience. I can't imagine if we got to see overacting over flirty WKX and stiff ZZS :(. Again, no offense here.
I wonder why Youku translated "Yifu" as "father" while it should be "adopted/foster father"? It has totally different…
Yes, literal word 义父 (yì fù) is foster father in english. I assumed that YK decide to translate it to "father" instead of "foster father" is to not making confuse for non-mandarin speaker. Because in reality "foster father" is called "father" by his children. (PS: father not dad or daddy)
The featured article about this show described one of the main characters as a villain but based on what they…
Do you watch Deadpool? The main character is like Deadpool. Witty, chatty, grey, anti hero, strong in martial arts, previous assassin turns to something :D
Two protagonists as anti-heroes means I need to check this out.
Yes, please do check. They are anti-heroes with very grey area. You can't tell what they do is wrong or correct but what you will see is human to human relationship isn't just black and white.
There's no hero nor what you call the "white side" in this drama because at the end human mind is complicated as well as its relations between them. The actor and the script and the director have successfully captured that essence.
Ah!! Thank you for writing it! I was a skeptical about this drama at first and I delayed watching this drama tbh because I didn't find the leads and the story is interesting, and yes I'm a Danmei reader and I've read TYK (the original source).
TYK written by Priest (also wrote Legend of Fei/Mo Du/Sha Po Lang) was first published 10 years ago and It was written during the writer's university day so in terms of story and character isn't the best (yet) imho. With this reason, I didn't really pay attention to this drama until 2 weeks ago when I started watching episode one. I instantly fell in love with Wen Kexing and A Xu.
The acting and the script is truly remarkable despite low budget production. This drama really is raising the bar for Danmei adaptation and novel to drama adaptation in general. From this drama, you can also see that the power of drama content is directing and script also acting from the actors - I'm not just mentioning the leads, because what I can see all actors involving in this drama production gave their 100% or even 110% performance, you can tell that they love acting in it.
Despite low production budget, this drama have been capturing interest of audience in general with 8.6 score in Douban (Chinese version of Mydramalist) and despite its original source (BL novel), this drama broke into mainstream audience - not just niche subculture audience. This drama shows us that script and acting does matter, the big name with many fans wouldn't be generating so much views unless the script is good.
Also, if you watch this drama solely for BL interaction between leads, I suggest you to look at bigger picture. The anti-hero seeking for redemption and no white and black area in human to human relationship. Sometimes you can't just tell A is wrong , B is right because A and B or C each of them has different story and different walk of life before they meet each other. How complicated human mind is, the director, the scriptwriter and the actor have successfully managed to capture that essence and crafted into perfection.
I really hope toxic fans will stay away from these two >_
This is so sad indeed. SHL casts are super friendly and funny people. They are calmed and laidback about the situation even though in ZZH case, people are calling him "lao po (wifey)" which probably will have an effect to his manly masculine image, but he's so chill about that.
I think both of leads are mature enough to handle the situation compare to TU leads due to years of experience and gradually rising fame, not just overnight. I see two WOH leads are capable to handle the situation (for now) and I hope they will continue like that. I'm so happy that their talent finally is recognized by people. #IstanTalent
Also I really like how YK promoting the contents and drama, they are focusing on the drama and the character, NOT CP/SHIPPING. This is what I see and I appreciate. They don't sell "candies" or "tea" about the leads leading to shipping obsession/fanatism. So far I only see them selling how autotune GJ is and how awkward ZZH is when dancing but when the actors doing offline/online interviews they keep it as professional bro to bro co-worker. And if you check Weibo, the CP super topic is about the drama character, NOT THE PERSON unlike previous BL drama/TU which created a lot of fanwars and a lot of cyberbullying in the internet due to unhealthy fanatism. YK even interacted with fans and encouraging fans to post positive content - with every likes given in social media for positive content about the drama. Such a good marketing team and I appreciate it.
