if kim jiwon, who is a much bigger name than ahn eunjin, can play a 2nd fl to song hye kyo, why can’t ahn eunjin?…
It's not about playing second fiddle. It's about acting skills. It is what it is.

I'm just on ep 2 and I'm not sure I like Liang Jie's acting here. She always seems to be spaced out or day dreaming.…
Tell me about it. I have been a fan of all the performances that I have seen of her. I blame the direction. While reading the novel, I never thought, what a spaz. The problem is LZ and SR don't look battle hardened enough. I am not saying they both ought to swagger their way everywhere, but they must carry themselves in a more self assured manner. I cannot quite explain it but journalists, especially war correspondents, have a certain vibe. For instance, Benjamin feels every of the mercenary he is (maybe a tad too handsome 🀭). Even SX looks the part of the aggressive puppy like newbie reporter. LZ and SR look a bit more believable when they are in China. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

The slow burn in the book works. Here, by trying too hard, they ended up messing up the execution of scenes. I, for one, have no issues with a slow burn, but this show ain't it.

Title The White Olive Tree Spoiler
In the synopsis it states that his friend died to protect him so I guess it is related to that.
I read the novel a long time ago. Can you please tell what happened?

Oh, right! I am usually careful. Will do so. 😊
P. S. : I started watching this drama because of KSO. Ended up as a fan of both main leads. 😊

I was annoyed that he was killed off. They could have easily gotten around it without killing Mapi off. Also, they had gotten around worse scrapes.

ML, is he really blind or pretending?
He is legally blind in terms of today's world. He has very little vision, can perhaps make out stuff if they are extremely close to his eyes.

Tell me about it. There are WTF moments in CDramas all the time. However, either do such a good job that the viewer doesn't realise or do it properly. There are amazing realistic dramas as well but they are usually not rated highly here on MDL. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

True. The story flows better when they are both in China. The story beats in Eastern Country make me facepalm.

IKR?! For reason, I was expecting something with more depth, an idol drama nonetheless. Something in the vein of Better Days. I don't mean the theme but the manner of story telling. I have read the novel and it is beautifully romantic and sad. I wish the drama had better captured the undercurrent of sadness that is present in the novel.

Actually, I feel it's to do with subpar execution of the scenes. I have watched way more WTF scenes yet never gotten caught up in how unrealistic they are. That's because I didn't have trouble suspending my disbelief as I was way too immersed in the romance. Here, the execution is clunky at best which took me out of the drama quite a few times.

I don't like the direction of her character at all and I happen to be a huge fan of LJ. What a shame.
Contrary to the opinions of many here, I don't think it's her best performance.
