The drama has a sense of surrealism. Absolutely love this about the drama.
Btw, she just let nature do its work. As children, and vile ones as that, her bullies didn't understand any better. Kudos to the little munchkin playing KH's younger self. It would not have had the same effect if not acted out properly.

Most people are bewildered by the sombre and artsy/indie feel of the drama. For me, it's right up my alley. 😁 Also, the FL does not give two flying Fs about nasty people. Love her and her gang. Her friends seem like they have been so for years. This drama feels really organic.

Yes, I thought so too at first. 🙈 The Thai one is slapstick-y, yet, I don't know why I really enjoyed the beats of the story. Maybe because of how effortless the chemistry of the main leads is. Check out the J Remake of Nevertheless. The ML is a seasoned actor. JDramas are usually my most favourite.

I also feel that the governor's act of adopting CZ, an Eternal orphan to boot, was not a random act of kindness. Something that even CZ may not be aware about.

^My theory about Fu Ling.

I have a theory why Fu Ling is so determined to save Chong Zhao. I have been thinking this for a while. She decides not to harm CZ because of a feeling... What if they have met before as children? As Bai Xi and the young son of the bun stall owners? Also, a viewer suggested his master breaking into his prison to be an illusion... What if she remembers everything now? What if those Eternals, too, were illusions? Afterall, CZ is injured and on her turf. Also, he isn't that powerful to begin with and she is a teeny bit in love with him.
Also, if she is indeed Bai Xi, what if she has met her father before? Bai Shuo's father did refuse to acknowledge the existence of the supernatural in their town for years. He had wanted to protect his remaining daughter. It was only when his hand was forced that the governor came clean. What if the villian struck a deal with him? Bai Xi's life in exchange of taking her away forever? What if Fu Ling's memories were wiped away thereafter? And meeting CZ triggered those memories?
I have a sneaking suspicion that the governor's act of suicide as an offering to the Gods may have been agreed upon between Fu Ling and him a la HP's Dumbledore and Snape.
She's cruel, yet, she seems to have plans of her own and trying to play her master in the limited way she can.
Edit: Seems like CZ's master did indeed break into his holding cell.

Sure! I generally end up liking darker dramas. Hence, the tone of this one appeals to me more. However, this is not to say I don't enjoy KDramas. In my previous comment, I was thinking of the Thai remake of Full House. I just wasn't able to get into the Korean one.

To be honest, Ye Bin Chang was just an annoyance. I couldn't ever take her seriously. On the other hand, Fu Ling is reminiscent of Bellatrix Lestrange in the way how FY likes to play with her food. A leopardess on the prowl, teasing her prey. Before this, I'd only ever seen DLW play sweet characters with finesse. She's doing such a good job playing this role.

This is more grounded and sombre in tone, I didn't really enjoy the original. This is the second time that I like the remake more than the Korean original.

I was expecting him to embrace her (because in dramaland, the parent is always forgiven) and was prematurely rolling my eyes to high heaven. However, I need not have worried. His reaction was so damn close to life. People closest to you hurt you and them hurting you is not always necessarily tied to financial matters. I have been in a similar position. You just run out of reasons to forgive.
I loved how nobody gave "holier than thou" sermons saying his reaction to his mother's arrival is wrong. Or that he is the pillar of strength to his aging mother. Or, try to mend their relationship. It was so sweet of the female airline staff to tack in a quiet word of encouragement. Absolutely loved the composition of that scene.
