One of the very few jidaigeki which I found quite entertaining. Maybe because the lead role is a woman. Available on YT as Undercover Geisha since a few years.
Wasn't expecting anything, decided to watch it only for the female cast, but the first episode was great. Similar to Lost Man Found, real life sometimes writes the best stories.
The present-day housewife is awfully annoying, which makes the rewatch not as pleasant as it should be. For anyone interested in movies starring Ayako Wakao, please check out Women Are Born Twice (A Geisha's Diary) and also The Blue Sky Maiden.
Solid drama, although I am skipping every now and then as the show business setting is not my cup of tea. I was astonished about the numerous classic songs which now I have learned were actually all written by Hattori Ryouchi. That's what I call a genius! And in the drama I even did not reach the point when Kasagi Shizuko's signature song Tokyo Boogie Woogie is introduced...
The tale of the grinning dudes who call themselves monkeys? Great actors and great production paired with annoying overacting. And 48 episodes following them on their way to become warlords? Couldn't even finish the first episode.
What a wonderful little movie! Filmed in the late seventies following a couple's journey across Japan, it absolutely exuded the charm of the Tora-san's movies. The lead actress even portrayed one of Tora-san's "Madonnas" that same year.
A side note: DNA tests were not available at that the time of the movie, so a possible father could only be found or excluded by the blood types of father and child.
I was not expecting much, but maybe except from Oshin, this one is by far the strongest (subbed) asadora. My other all time favorite asadoras pale in comparison.
Unfortunately I had to drop this. All those embarrassing moments because of the cultural differences became too annoying to me. It was just silly rather than funny. I did care for any of the characters at all, everything just felt too forced,
A side note: DNA tests were not available at that the time of the movie, so a possible father could only be found or excluded by the blood types of father and child.
