I watched and enjoyed Smile, Dong Hae = a daily drama. In my opinion, the acting was much better in that show than here. Shin So Yool's acting is sub-par … started watching Sweet Secret and seriously thinking of dropping that one because SSY screeches too much … she cannot act.

You brought up a good point ... Guess I was too impatient and did not make that connection. Thank you ... But I still find this drama not worth continuing.
Dropped this drama after seeing too many minutes of Gong Jun Soo (played by Im Joo Hwan) running because he suddenly developed motion sickness?! … when did that happen? He had no trouble riding the bus back home with "Mom" when he was younger. One reason for my dropping a drama quickly is when a character suddenly changed his/her behavior … it's as though there was a change in the writer(s).
Too bad. I really enjoyed Im Joo Hwan in "Tamra, the Island."
I beg to differ … I was immediately struck by the chemistry between the two Leads … that's why I was not surprised when Eugene and Ki Tae-young announced their wedding plan.
This family drama is very cute! I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was heartwarming, funny and emotional in the right…
I have only finished 2 episodes of this drama, but have watched a few other Japanese dramas … They do excel in "their slice of life dramas" = very heartwarming!
no...no... I love Jang Hyuk but I dont care for Lee Min Jung at all...she ruined BIg for me ( but mostly the writers…
Lee Min-jung is one of the best Korean actresses in my opinion. Because of her superb acting ability, she is able to create great chemistry with her Male Lead (i.e., You, Smile and Cunning Single Lady). However, in this drama, I have to agree with another viewer's opinion that there is no chemistry between her and Jang Hyuk. I have not found much to admire in Jang Hyuk's acting … no matter which drama I've seen him in (5 dramas besides "Midas), his one and only facial expression is, "I am Mr. Cool." Why 5 dramas when I don't think much of his acting? … either because of the story and/or his co-stars … just as I plan to continue watching this drama because of the story and Lee Min-jung (only finished 2 episodes).
I, too, finished this drama but felt the need to FF many parts. The grandmother was hilarious (now watching her in High Kick 1) … there were moments of such tenderness between Mom and Dad even thought Mom was really annoying most times … initially I did not care for the character played by Oh Man-suk, but his acting was so superb that he grew on me; Lee Tae-run also did quite well playing the part of Hopark, the 2nd daughter.
The story I enjoyed the most was that of Go Min-jung (played by Jo Sung-ha), husband of the 1st daughter Soopark and how he reconnected with his 1st Love. Jo SH was so fantastic in this show, he received an award for his acting. I watched the last 25 minutes or so of the last episode three times … that's how much I enjoyed his acting.
Surprisingly, the 3rd daughter's story (Gwangpark, played by Lee Yoon-ji) was of the least interest to me. I did not think Lee YJ's acting here was up to par, with a lot of "overacting" in many scenes … and, therefore, I did not feel there was any chemistry between her and Han Joo-wan.
Overall, I give this drama a "7," the highest score for any drama when I FF through many scenes. It is worth a one-time watch.
I watched Ep 1 and was interested enough to go on to Ep 2. Just 15 minutes into that episode, I suddenly lost interest … two reasons: Lee Bo Young and Lee Sang Yoon. Although LBY did well in the first scene, I found her acting somewhat bland … she is beautiful … too beautiful that it is almost like watching a mannequin perform (in her encounter toward end of Ep 1 and start of Ep 2, I thought I was watching her in "I Can Hear Your Voice"). I like actors and actresses who use different facial expressions to show emotions appropriate to the situations (i.e., Gong Hyo-jin and Ko Soo).
As for Lee Sang Yoon … same thing = acting somewhat bland. I watched him in "The Duo," where Chun Jung-myung outperformed him. I also watched him in "Life is Beautiful" and before too long I was fast-forwarding the parts he was in.
I would have continued to watch this drama had Park Jeong-ah had a Main Role. I didn't even recognize her as the same actress who played Saewa in "Smile, Donghae." She looked so different when she bounced into the Dining Room to join the rest of the Kang family.
Now, there is one superb actress! She also has a beautiful voice.
I dropped this drama not because it was not good, but because I got tired of watching the same dumb AT&T ad before each "part." It's unfortunate that this drama is available at only a few websites where they upload each Episode in 3 or 4 Parts. The drama itself is quite good although some "fillers" since it's a 64-episode drama.
At what point does this drama stop repeating itself and actually get on with the story? At 46 eps i'm watching…
After watching over 100 K-dramas, I have found that "I will never forgive you?" is a line that appears in over 70% of all Kdramas. I have reached a point where I can just ignore that and move on. Even 20- 24 episode dramas have "dialogues and situations … recycled."
I actually found this drama quite watchable although I did FF some parts. I stayed with this mainly because the acting was superb (for the most part) … especially by Park Jeong-ah. Her role was not an easy one, but she did such a great job in her acting to draw out just the right emotion in the right dose.
I agree that Smile, You was a VG drama … the chemistry between the Two Leads was great!
All your comments are "right on." Only one thing I do not quite agree with you … to me, this drama = perfection = a Masterpiece. I watched this a year ago and no drama before then and since has managed to leave such an impression in my head and my heart. Yes, the drama's ending is very sad, but as I have told friends and relatives … the Love Story portrayed here is so beautiful and genuine that that ending was the only way for the love between Mu Hyuk and Eun Chae to remain a True Love story and also the only way for Eun Chae to have a closure.
You can find this drama at tv.soompi.com, formerly kdrama.com. I have not checked out the soompi site yet, but hope this drama is available at this "new" site because it is on my To-Watch list.
