Ha! Ha! Funny … Chun Ho Jin "always seemed thunderstruck." He does have that expression in just about all the dramas I've seen him in (and he has starred in many … does he ever sleep? Maybe not ... which would explain his wide-eyed stare).
My husband has dubbed him "the cheating husband" because it just so happened that the only 2 dramas he's seen CHJ in (A Thousand Affections and Will It Snow for Christmas) … in both he played the cheating hubby.
I hesitated at first to watch this because of the title "Thank You, Papa and Goodbye"?! … anticipating a sad ending. However, having watched 5 eps so far, the story is so heartwarming that I hope the "warmth" will remain in my heart after I have finished this.
This is the first drama I dropped because of bad acting...I really hoped it would be good because there seemed…
I noticed that you have not watched any T-drama or movie. I have dropped more Tdramas than finished them … mostly because of the "bad acting" … as well as, for me, the unnecessary background music/noise that tends to be too loud. If you wish to give it a try … the movie Hear Me is one of best production (dramas or movies) to come out of Taiwan.
A simple story. I enjoyed it … there are some silly moments … but, a good change from Kdramas … no spiteful characters. The location of the "small island town" is absolutely breathtaking (Taiwan's Matsu Islands).
So many Kdramas of recents years start off with a Bang, showing promise to be a worthwhile watch. Then it's like the writing team changed and the drama starts to drag. I wonder if the quality suffers because Kdramas are written and filmed as "they go along," many times, if not all, the director and writer have no idea of the ending.
I have not even finished Ep 1 but found Joo Won's acting surprisingly good (saw him in King of Baking and he did a fine job there) … and Moon Chae Won = I have always been impressed. I plan to continue and if the drama starts to drag, I shall pick up my iPad and play games while watching, something I've been doing a lot lately.
I took a quick look at your Drama List and saw that you dropped Sorry, I Love You after one episode. This drama to me is one of the best Kdramas … the acting was superb and story got better and better = no "drags" = no unnecessary side stories (aka fillers).
Bullying = a fact of Life … most unfortunately. I feel that K-dramas tend to overdo bullying than J-dramas, especially since this drama is tagged as a Comeday/Romance.
"Bullying" is one thing that is too pervasive in Kdramas … I started watching Ep 2 of this drama and switched to another drama as soon as YooChun's character got kicked in the shin a SECOND time by senior detective Kang Hyuk … for what? = totally unnecessary to the plot.
Because of your review here (sooooo well-written), I will give this another chance … if for no other reason than Nam Goong Min who I thought did a great job in Can You Hear My Heart.
I just hope that the "office bullying" is either done with by end of Ep 2 or kept to a minimum.
Oh, and regarding "cute and fluffy" … I did not see Haeundae Lovers on your list. This drama got only a 7.0, but I thoroughly enjoyed it … the pacing and acting were good … and the cinematography (not a rating factor here MDL) was, at times, = Wow! A Fun to Watch.
I can't like this drama no matter how hard I try. I really don't know why. I started watching it 2 months ago…
I really enjoyed the first 4 eps. Watched part of Ep 6 then decided to move on. Why so many K-dramas have to include "bullying in the office" (in schools it is bad enough, but kids are kids). From this show I went on to Sensory Couple … again, bullying in the office (when Park Yoo Chun's character got kicked twice in the shin by the Chief Detective). I really don't get it.
I also do not get why Lee Jong Suk is so popular and considered a great actor by many. His acting is so stiff, even in comedic situations. I did finish I Hear Your Voice … was not particularly impressed with LJS … but, Jeong Wung In, he was amazing.
After watching Ji Jin Hee in Jewel in Palace and then in Dong Yi, I was very surprised how well he did in the comedic role as The Man Who Can't Get Married. He also was such a good Team Player when he guest-starred on Running Man. One of my favorite actors.
Great choices! And I have favorite dramas/movies for each of these actors!! The best is when you see the actor…
I also first watched him in Gloria and then as the kind Prince Hae Myeong in Kingdom of the Winds … what a great actor to play two very different roles so well!
Finished 4 eps and most likely will continue … very heartwarming story. However, one thing bothers me about the Cast: Lee Ha Na is too old to play a woman in her mid 20's. Don't get me wrong…she's good but I find it hard to watch a 33 year old playing a 20-some year old. A real "petty" thing to bring up … too many K-dramas have actresses in roles much younger than their actual age … and, no matter how much cosmetic surgery, too often I can see the "older" woman.
