Minjae and Coco displayed boss level wholesomeness the entire season and were the reason I kept watching. An "available storyline" for the cast members, who enter the show at the end, is so crucial. This season both of them didn't stand a chance, which was a pity. This was my least favourite season. Time to see if My Sibling's Romance is as good as everyone says.
Oh, I'm glad I wasn't the only one bothered by the "lost dog" comment.
I mean, dogs are amazing, and the guy wasn't the most romantic, heartfluttering person anyway (which is fine), but that remark threw me for a loop. 😂
I'm still surprised by the 180 I did on KT. Once they landed in Jeju and after that heartbreaking crying scene it was all over for me. The way that man made me swoon. Too bad he didn't have much to do in the romance department, but he was a great supporting voice of reason for a lot of these people during the dark & unhinged Jeju nights. The eyebrow tic. Poor guy sat on that bench waiting to be turned down from daylight to dusk. JE saying she loved him in her last interview? I cried.
DJ & DH had some truly iconic, emotional scenes. When they talked about how they'd grown (up) during their time as a couple, but still felt like they acted young together. That really got to me. The idol life was a huge factor in bringing them together and breaking them up. So it makes sense, that a big part of their identity as a couple would be tied to the past and their youth. They grew up as individuals during those 13 years, but in a lot of ways couldn't as a couple. It's bittersweet then, that when going public as exes on this show, they received a lot of support and most were rooting for them to get their happy ending. Together. Honestly, I would love it, if this show was just a way for them to "out" their relationship and to be able to date freely in public. Their ex-date was one of the highlights of the show.
JW (like DH) got closure and was finally able to let SK go. He went on the show with a resolve to get her back, and it looked like SK realized in the final car scene, that she lost him due to her own actions. However frustrating it was to watch their fights and indecisiveness, I think, they both made the right choice in the end. JW was one of the cast standouts and brought such an overall "good guy" energy to the show.
I'm fine with YJ's decision, but I wish, the PD hadn't trolled us so blatantly, because it's clear, that a lot of CJ & YJ interactions were left on the editing floor to create the JW & YJ narrative. I'd preferred to watch more scenes of CJ & YJ rekindling their romance, but the show needed that heartfluttering couple, and it didn't really have one this season. They lucked out with the season 2 Kdrama couple, and it'll probably never happen again, but that doesn't mean, we need a "see you tomorrow, Noona" moment in every season to be engaged.
MH & SJ. Well, girl chose him and his response was "it felt like I had found my lost dog". I hope they live happily ever after.
HW could probably sell that purse for a decent amount of money. The true MVP of this season.
Shoutout to the panel and in particular the 3 crybabies on the couch.
Kwangtae is such a wasted potential. Had he not spent all his time in Seoul panicking about the arrival of his ex, he wouldn't have been so misunderstood. I'm afraid, he's going for the wrong girl in the show, but I hope, he finds the partner, that'll love him the way, he needs. I can't believe the one-eighty I did regarding this man. What a difference +40 hours of watching people descent into unhinged, drunken Jeju darkness makes.
Wonbin started out strong, but then Tae-I took over until Hyun-gyu completely pushed me into delulu lane. His resemblance to Cha Hak Yeon/N from Vixx didn't help either. That guy simply cannot be real.
Currently possessed by the demon, that resides in HW's purse - this cracks me up big time! ... Mingue doesnt have…
I've been side eyeing that thing ever since her meltdown and can't understand, why she keeps dragging it around everywhere. Your idea of inserting a small Mingue reaction screen for some of the most frustrating segments is pure genius! 😂
How can a beautiful place like Jeju Island be so exhausting. With every new episode we get 5 minutes of cute dates and the rest is drunken, unhinged darkness. I'm tired.
I honestly hope SJ and MH don't watch themselves on this show, because it's not a pretty sight. I get booking her is tempting and good TV on paper, but they should never have been allowed on this show.
Poor KT has little to no screen time, because he doesn't go looking for a fight, when he's drunk. He just passes out on the couch or becomes a shoulder to cry on. Him going for SK at this point is a mistake. And SK? Currently possessed by the demon, that resides in HW's purse.
At this point I'm only rooting for DH, YJ and KT finding their individual healing & happiness. The rest of these people all need to go home and go to bed.
(Definitely not complaining about Mingue returning to the panel in these episodes. He's so freaking handsome).
I'm actually pleased with how they wrapped up both Kai's backstory and resolution as well as Hirokuni's office arc. Kai's consequently (emotional) holdups mostly made sense, and the one question I had was luckily asked by Hirokuni. The leg cramp scene was goofy in a good way and made me laugh out loud (literally). I really liked, how they used the tropey arm grabbing scene here. Them taking turns in holding and letting go and how it matched their dialogue/feelings.
Btw., talk about having some patient and polite neighbors. I kept waiting for someone to open a window and ask them to shut the hell up or take it inside. And why was that huge office consistently empty. Early morning or late at night, they appeared to be the only team on the job.
Not a standout show, but not a huge letdown either. Just a quiet, understated slice-of-life deal with a universal, always relevant message. Kai's smile at the end was worth waiting for.
Either this is too short, or the narrative needs tightening. I didn't need episode 5 to underline a message, that came through loud and clear in episode 1. There's also no need to keep reintroducing the boss as the trigger. That scene with Sakamoto is by far the most interesting and affecting from the office so far.
Hirokuni will get there, which is great. However, I'm so much more interested in Kai and what goes on behind that impassive demeanor of his.
Too much plot, too little time and a clear lack of budget. I forgot how fluffy is it. When this couple is at their peak, watching them is like pouring honey down your throat. Hae Bom is uncontrollably cute. One look at him and my protective instincts immediately shifted into overdrive.
If you're like me and think reality/variety shows are not really it, then this is the show for you. While season 1 was good, it was in season 2 & 3 the series really took off with a stellar cast chemistry. I cried, laughed, was inspired and so very entertained in every single episode.
The Dex & Kian pairing remains the show's absolute ace card, but Pani Bottle really grabbed my heart in season 3. I hope to see them again in a season 4 or another show. Finger's crossed.
Some very heavy themes/messages wrapped in a lot of heartfelt cuteness. I enjoyed the attempt at a fresh and different storyline. For the most part they succeeded in gathering the threads in the last two episodes. Not perfect, but the parts that worked, became my main reason for overlooking the flaws. Especially the cinematography was nicely done. I liked the aspect ratio changes to help the viewer navigate, and I loved, LOVED the use of parallel scenes throughout. Chef's kiss.
Yeo Woon had my heart at "tsundere", but when the shield dropped, I completely lost all ability to function as a reasonable human being. The number of times his facial expressions and/or tone of voice knocked down all my defenses: unlimited! I won't soon forget this character.
Lee Tae Vin carried the responsibility of being the one conveying the main messages of the story very well. Had his acting been sub-par in the least, the series would've suffered greatly. Fortunately he was solid.
This role must have been a walk in the park for Woong Ki, but I would've liked a bit more screen time and character development for him. Next time, Woong Ki.
I'd be up for a season 2 with longer (!!!) episodes and same main cast.
MVP: Come get your flowers, Hosaka Yui! Kakeru was adorable and carried the series together with Yui. The dynamic between Yamato and Mikoto was intriguing. I would've liked to learn more about their backstory.
I agree, there's zero romantic chemistry. It may show up - we'll see. I think part of the problem is that JBL…
It defintely makes sense, but I've gotten used to and in most instances grown to enjoy the "anime vibe", quirky slapstick comedy and borderline-full blown caricature characters. I've watched numerous series with similar characters and little to no (romantic) chemistry or physical touch, that still didn't fall entirely flat, because I got something else instead (either a good cry or laugh or just something wholesome/heartfelt to think about). Or the story/acting helped turn the caricatures into human beings.
I can see at lot of people really like the show and do feel the (romantic) chemistry. I guess, this is just a case of "sometimes it works for you & sometimes it doesn't". If they increase the emotional/heartfelt part, this couple may start to resonate with me more. Buying into the intense, instant attraction helps too, but in this case I didn't.
Thanks for the friendly reply and opinion, though. You never know, what you're hit with in these comment sections.
Well, then. Not a back rub. Aren't I the naive one. I swear, someone's character arc better include flipping a desk in the face of management and waltzing the F out that door, because Boss-man cardboard cutout is driving me up the wall.
Alright, it's only 3 episodes, but I'm not really connecting with this vibe and them. I've been trying to figure out why, because so many key parts here are right up my alley.
Sakae is a golden retriever with an idol hair cut and (so much) lip balm. Greenest flag in town, a (loveable) clown, possibly the entire circus. He's so approachable and warm, I'm not sure, if it's him, that's making the restaurant feel so cozy, or it's the wood interior. For Soga they really checked off all the usual boxes to hide his natural good looks and create "invisible fidgety office worker, who can't let himself live". He's just missing the bed hair. I mean, these are versions of characters, I usually enjoy. They remind me of a goofy rendition of Minoru & Yutaka, minus best kid ever, plus wise friend. This should work!
But..hmm. It's the lack of (romantic) chemistry. It's how the balance between slapstick comedy and healing slice-of-life isn't quite there (yet?, I hope). It's how I can't see romance fitting in. I'd be surprised, if these two will make my heart skip a beat before episode 10, because they're giving me strong friendship/family. That blonde dude in his half a scene only helped confirm this. I'm not getting anything more from wise & collected Kaname either. At this point I want the three of them to move in together, heal and care for each other, while hanging with the bath house crew and eating some of that insane looking food. I'd watch that for 10 episodes.
Will be interesting to see, how much space they'll give that nice hinted life lesson and their respective pasts seeing as it's the reason, they'll make sense. When they momentarily drop their emotional shields, they both shine in the quiet, thoughtful scenes. I hope, the balance tips in favor of this or at least, we'll get a more even distribution of clownery/healing. I'll take romance as a bonus then and enjoy the rest of this light, unremarkable ride for what it is.
(To be fair, I'm also mostly sticking around hoping for a surprise cameo from Mashiko Atsuki, now I learned he's a member of the band, performing the show's intro song. I mean, it worked wonders in Minato's House of Laundry.)
Number of times, I wanted to reach through my screen, pick Amane up and hug him tightly: infinite! What kind of sorcery is this loveable and adorable human. I was in his corner and ready to defend him with my life from the moment, he appeared. Well played, Okura Takato!
I came directly from "A Breeze of Love" to this, and even if it's unfair to compare the two, I was still surprised by how much "Kimi to Nara Koi...." accomplishes in less time. Both are simple stories, both are flawed, but "Kimi to Nara Koi..." feels way more fleshed out. The character growth and "stakes" for the ML's are more clearly defined too.
When Amane asked Ryuji that question on the beach, and we saw, how Ryuji had spent his summer, it hit me so hard (in a good way), I had to take a short break to watch something ridiculous on Youtube. The cinematography, dialogue, acting, story and score came together perfectly in those scenes. Japanese productions really tug at the heartstrings in a way others can't easily pull off or duplicate.
I want to check in on these two again. I hope, they keep their promise.

Also, the preview of that island looked insane.
