noticed films from award winning directors and writers rated a 7 on average on this site which is such a joke…
No it's not overstated, it's understated because popular consensus fails to recognise a vast multitude of themes and the intent behind it. This comment section shows exactly that. Also I don't want to sound snobbish and act like anyone who doesn't like it didn't get it but to act like it doesn't play a role at all in any film's reception at all is just foolish. There's a reason why this film is so low rated here and one of highest and most liked films on Letterboxd.
Top tier directing, action, comedy and overall a great production. The family dynamic was amazing, Bae Doona killed it and I can't get enough of Lomon, this was a good support role but I need him in another main role. His character in Revenge of Others was insanely likeable. Hopefully we get a S2 soon and also I can't get enough of this genre so I need The Witch Part 3 ASAP too. This is one of my rare 9/10s.
One of the coolest, sexiest, badass roles played by JCW but this had so much more potential, some of the writing choices pulled it down. I don't like it more than The Worst of Evil but both had great chemistry between JCW and BiBi and i want them together in another drama to make it a cinematic trilogy similar to Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone trilogy. 8/10.
He absolutely killed his role in Wok of Love. One of the only 2 characters in k-drama that truly impressed me, the other being the judge character played by Ji Sung in The Devil Judge. And both happens to be influenced by, and seen in the show as admirers of Nietzsche, someone whose ideas i also very heavily admire.
This show has one of the coolest second main characters i've ever seen and that means a lot because the standard of writing in k-dramas is usually quite low compared to other media. In fact i would as far as to say the gangster bro in this drama and the judge character played by Ji Sung in The Devil Judge are the only 2 characters from K-drama industry that impressed me.
Funny enough both of them are influenced by, and in the show are seen as admirers of Nietzsche, someone whose ideas i also very heavily admire.
The other ML in this show is also pretty good and avoids most of the checkboxes that i usually dislike in most K-drama MLs. The FL on the other hand is NOT GOOD and quite poorly written. In fact the bromance in this show is quite amazing while romance parts are poor.
If the romance part was strong i would've given it 9/10 but it's not so i give it 8.5/10.
The writing decisions they made in last 2 episodes have made the story less ambitious and inferior. Until ep 4 i was liking it more than The Worst of Evil, that is no longer the case. They offed one of the 2 most likable characters and are not giving screentime to the other. Not good writing choices. This had more potential. Disappointed. I just want another k-drama with BiBi and JCW.
No, for the moment The Worst Of Evil remains superior. The duo of Ji Chang Wook and Wi Ha Joon is just introl'able.…
Well yeah for now because one hasn't ended but i liked first 4 episodes of Gangnam B-side more. I liked JCW's character far more in this one but i also like BiBi's character far more in The Worst of Evil. Both really good shows.
This is so good. Even better than The Worst of Evil. Both BiBi and JCW are killing it. I want them together in a 3rd series to complete their cinematic trilogy similar to Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone trilogy.
How do you feel when you see a FL chasing after the ML just as desperately?
It can be funny and good if done well or cringe if writing is bad. But i'm going to be honest and say i've enjoyed FL chase ML shows far more, but in none of those shows ML rejected FL this severely, so it never felt like ML was being too rude. I'll also go one step further and admit that it might seem hypocritical, because i'm a male with high self-esteem, so seeing a male stoop this low just pisses me off, while i don't feel the same way vice-versa, so yes i agree to the hypocrisy that you might be suspecting. But i choose to be honest with my male pride over taking a moral stand in name of gender equality.
