you misunderstand me "I never had the feeling XY kept Jing hidden, so many people knew about their relationship." XY didnt keep Jing hidden, I meant she kept her deep feelings towards him hidden to him. After their breakup, every time they met, she pretended to be cheerful and fine.

"the pain she felt when she heard about his death"
For me, this part actually made it really clear in the story, who was Xiaoyao's 'true love'. The lovers bug 'rule' was the two in love will be bound together in life or in death. Xiaoyao only ever showed this 'weakness' for Tushan Jing, this feeling that life is no longer worth living because her love is gone. She didn't need any bug to kill her, she felt like she couldn't live on.
What do you think about these two very different responses? She fell into a coma for a few days over Jing. She was ready to give up living, not even putting up a fight when the assassin came for her. But after Xiangliu died, she seemed perfectly fine to live out the rest of her life. If that was the level of true love she had for Xiangliu, isn't it very sad for him?
That is yet another tired discussion brought up again and again. Didn't one of your yaoliu fans say decades is…
Tian er and Chuanzi are just the story of a typical couple in life. There maybe nothing grand in their union but Tian er was satisfied and felt blessed with her life. I find it interesting that Tian er, as a mere mortal, was the one to advise the deity Xiaoyao about 'life' more than once in the story. Being a deity who had lived a longer life, Xiaoyao was still lost because she had thousands of years, but Tian er with her much shorter lifespan, was able to live well because she put her trust into the simplest philosophies. Its not that Xiaoyao didn't know the same philosophies, but she just didn't dare to 'invest' her thousands of years while someone with only a few decades dared to.
"even Jing mentioned a few times that he is aware that XY is affectionate towards him out of pity and kindness." This is exactly the part I meant from my previous reply, Jing never understood how much Xiaoyao actually loved him ( until the end, when he came back from his 'death' ). She had kept her real feelings hidden from him. She only told Cangxuan, and Xiangliu knew through their connection. This is just like how Xiangliu kept his real feelings from her. That was why, Jing thought Xiaoyao was over him very quickly. If he knew that she had hurt so much, they could have gotten back together much sooner. Now can you understand how Xiaoyao perceived Xiangliu? If one person hides their feelings, the other person can only guess, and the answer could be very different from the truth. Xiaoyao thought Xiangliu never even thought of her as a friend, much less dared to feel narcissistic to think he loved her.
Xiaoyao was more in love with Shiqi than she ever realized and she couldn't control her feelings and 'take it back' later on. I don't think she was ever portrayed to be in love with two men at the same time. In the novel Xiaoyao told her brother Cangxuan - that this was the 'first time that both she and Jing liked another person', and both of them made their mistakes along the way. Again, in the part you pointed out, Xiaoyao also realized that she failed to communicate with Jing, which was why I said TH wanted to emphasize this as something important in a relationship. Xiaoyao was just learning what it means and what it takes to love another person. To protect them in action and also be open with their words. She couldn't stop her feelings for Tushan Jing but she needed to learn what to do so those feelings and turn them into concrete action to show that love.
Xiaoyao and Xiangliu, I understand many people really want something more for them. But I really cannot see it, because its like a flower bud that never bloomed. So where is that flower of true love? For me, in Xiangliu, Xiaoyao wanted a companion. If she really left with him, they would be the ones who roam the world but as best friends. I have never seen Xiaoyao being attracted to XL physically yet. All the physical moments some fans attach to the moment, are actually just physical action. There is nothing romantic behind the action, except perceived by willing audience. To be blunt, CPR is lip to lip. A real kiss you take air, you don't blow air.
The two of them were in Qingshui town for a month, and Xiaoyao remained cold to Xiangliu. But she just met Tushang Jing again and she was already crying in his arms. I think there is a big difference in the kind of reliance she seeked in either man.
You are looking for parallel but you may actually be looking in the wrong place.
The Yellow Emperor said that, Xiaoyao is like her mother, Ah Heng. She always wanted to roam the world with her beloved. The White Emperor too, later would think, your daughter did what you could not..
"What do you make of the crystal ball and what's your take on the fact that XY was able to answer yes when XL asked her if she is willing to marry shiqi, but she resisted saying the person who she most wanted to spend her life with? To me willing is more like a compromise, while wanting is something beyond that."
I actually wrote another post on this, because Ye Shiqi and Tushan Jing are two different people. One is free but the other is not. Xiaoyao makes a mental note of this to herself many times as we have seen in the story. She had zero hesitation when asked if she wanted to marry Ye Shiqi, but she was struggling in pain because at the time, she thought she lost Tushan Jing forever. So how could she allow herself to want to marry Tushan Jing? All the narration about her lovesickness in the novel, she was sad over Jing, because she thought they would have nothing to do with each other anymore, out of each others' lives. I really can't see her 'settling' for Jing, when to me, she viewed him as her first 'choice' all along.
The crystal ball part will be shown in the drama, although I don't know if it will satisfy you. Maybe we can come back to it when the ep airs. From novel, it was like a final farewell. It was also an SOS to Xiangliu. She was communicating to him that she was ready to be a companion but he was the one uninterested? She tested Xiangliu many times during her breakup period, to see if he would offer her a future, but she also knew he wouldn't. Xiaoyao went to Qingqiu to look for Tushan Jing first. Unfortunately, Xiangliu was always the backup here. She was depressed and very vulnerable during that period. Deep down she knew she didn't want to marry Fenglong, but she can't bring herself to break her promise and because she can't see another better choice either. Her family gave her every opportunity to break it off, she just continued on because on her road, she saw no other path.
Have you ever considered the parallel you were looking for could be between Xiaoyao and her own mother. Both wanted to roam the world. Both fell in love with men who loved them and would give them their everything, including their hearts. They also would give their men their everything. Except Ah Heng couldn't break her ties in the end. Only Xiaoyao got her happy ending to live out her life with her love.
8 hours more to LYF S2!! Looking forward to it so badly!
That is yet another tired discussion brought up again and again. Didn't one of your yaoliu fans say decades is…
I guess this is where we saw things differently because from the beginning, I didn't see Xiaoliu's girly affections for Shiqi being fake to get him to like her so that he would stay as her companion. In fact, her actions towards him was the only one which did not stem from some fear or need to ingratiate. With Shiqi, Xiaoliu was the one with the 'upper-hand'. She could get mad at him, gift him things, basically everything she did with him, was quite sincere.
But if you made a parallel of yaojing to TianEr-Chuanzi, where TianEr was definitely desperate for Chuanzi to marry her, won't this mean Xiaoyao would want to marry Chief TSJ immediately in case he slips from her grasp again? In that case, why was she so comfortable waiting for that 43 years?
Contrast this to how she was with Xiangliu, where most of what she said even though was sincere, quite alot of how she said it was meant to butter him up because she was inwardly afraid of making him mad. Even making poisons for him, started because she wanted to keep her Qingshui family safe, and later she wanted to keep Ah Nian safe. It was not a 'pure' gift. Even with her own brother Cangxuan, I found Xiaoyao often needing to catch herself about what she said with him, and come up with some placating words to appease him when he looked displeased.
As for yaoliu with Ah Heng and Chi-chen, once again I have to disagree. I did not read Once Promised yet, but I read enough posts to determine that Ah Heng and Chichen actually fell in love before their real identities emerged and became a problem when war begun? In fact, they were actually going to elope.
ChiChen was also very different from Xiangliu. He was proud, confident and he wooed Ah Heng very passionately and directly. Contrast this with Xiangliu who can't let go of himself to try to win Xiaoyao, that was why I never saw yaoliu being the same as that star-crossed couple. Also the 'ending' of Ah Heng and ChiChen was really moving, since ChiChen could literally give up his own heart for the woman he loved.
I suppose Xiangliu did in his own way, gave up a few of his lives for Xiaoyao, but in the end, I think he kept his heart for himself. He remained 'true' to his own aspirations and choices and did not pick Xiaoyao. To me, outsourcing your love and concern to a 'better man' is not the same as deciding to take care of the person you love yourself. I do not care for the 'noble idiot trope' in dramas.
Anyway I would like to thank you for sharing your thoughtful exchanges and your polite responses. I can feel you are sincere in your replies and you are not the same as some of the others who talk to me but I can obviously read their mocking tone.
Cheers! I hope you can still enjoy LYF S2! Look forward to discussing more with you in future as well! You can still reply to me if you want, these ending paragraphs is not a 'ending' thread move. I just wanted to say thanks in case you don't reply back to me lol

"I personally don't believe XY delayed her marriage to Jing because she was waiting for XL to save her or change his mind, but I don't believe she did it for the reasons you mentioned either. "
In that case, what reasons do you think she had for delaying? Do share so I can think about it as we watch S2... sometimes we need new ideas to open our minds to other possibilities. I like this story but sometimes after thinking about something in one way for a long time, I may not see it from another angle.
"He wanted to get marry the sooner the better. I understand that you are a jing fan, but I can't really undertand how her delay sits well with you."
This part is very true, Jing wanted to marry her asap, but as we all know Jing as always willing to wait for Xiaoyao and he will place her wishes first. Even though I am a Jing fan, I also love Xiaoyao, so I am fine with her taking as much time as she needed before the next big step in her life.
In addition, I also think it was TH's writing decision because she wanted to throw in one last big tribulation for this pair to suffer through before the end. If they were already married before he was 'killed', what a difference in storytelling because as his wife, what other choice could Xiaoyao make but wait for him?
Now we will see that Xiaoyao would also be willing to wait indefinitely for Jing, even when things seemed bleak and hopeless. She was even willing to marry 'the air' and become his wife in name. I loved to see her breaking her own 'rules' for him, because I am a die-hard romantic. But even with this development, we still see people claiming that Xiaoyao didn't love Jing as much as he loved her. Was TH's way to be 'fair' to her character Jing not enough, since so many still are unconvinced by the end that Xiaoyao ended up with him out of a need and not a want? I saw it as both, Xiaoyao needed him but she also wanted him. She lost control of her heart because of him a long while ago.
So yes, I accept Xiaoyao's waiting to get married, as part of the necessary storytelling, because we will get to see her 'growth' and how she would come to learn about herself, and how much she truly loved Jing.
Doing the story this way, Jing too, will also get to know just how much Xiaoyao loves him. Jing maybe in her heart but he has no 'direct access' to really KNOW her feelings for himself first-hand. Like most normal relationships, we all have to do guess work and put in the faith that what we think is the real thing, is real. Much of what Jing had assumed before was actually wrong - one of which was Xiaoyao got over him very quickly.
TH's writing for me, showed that in life, a successful loving relationship is really based on the importance of communication.
I don't doubt Xiangliu loved her in his own way, but he lacked the courage to pursue her or he consciously chose not to pursue her. Either way, he was not open at all, literally, even though supposedly the connection they shared was supposed to help a couple know everything the other felt - he could feel her joy, her pain. In the end, Xiaoyao wasn't even sure if they were considered friends, so what kind of epic love could we speak of? Two one-sided loves? I don't think Xiaoyao is the kind of person to choose to head down that path.
One of the most important thing TH seemed to emphasize on, is how open and honest a couple is with each other, and for me, yaojing met the criteria in this story and I am very happy for this couple.
You forgot to ask them about the “getting drunk during their wedding night” part of the novel 😹Watch them…
You are just so salty for Xiangliu as the East sea lol I can smell it from here
Considering how badly Xiaoyao wants Jing's kisses and how much they made out during their Cao ao range and Muxi Garden courting days, I really have no worries about their married life.
Let's talk damage dealing in LYF! In case people start coming at me about the results of decisions, I am just here talking about original intention. Because with every decided action, nobody can ever know how things will turn out exactly.
In order of damage and not character billing
Tushan Jing : Aims for Minimal Damage, even if targets are hostile Condtion : Must Exclude Xiaoyao
Cangxuan : Aims for Strategic Damage; will marry to avoid Damage Condtion : Can include Xiaoyao ( she is a tough girl, she will fix herself and I will be there )
Xiangliu : Aims for Maximum Damage, world in chaos benefits the Chenrong army Condtion : Can include Xiaoyao ( break now, save her life later )
Fenglong : Tell him where to Damage ( hahaha) Condtion : Cangxuan is the way
currently rewatching and I’m curious about the part where XY is in her bed and XL(FFB) comes in with the mask…
She had her suspicions but she could never be sure because the personalities of FFB and XL are just too different. FFB pretended to be poisoned by her before which made her think he was not XL. But that night she realized her poison had no effect on FFB and when he wanted to take her blood again, she knew for certain that he is XL.
That is yet another tired discussion brought up again and again. Didn't one of your yaoliu fans say decades is…
Its because when I discuss with you, you seem very closed to my points as well isn't it? Which is why I said lets wait. But if you really want to keep going then let's go!
Its obvious to me that you are suggesting that Xiaoyao is not keen to marry Tushan Jing, maybe to you she is still waiting for Xiangliu to come and ask for her hand? So your conclusion is, she doesn't love him at all , or not enough.
I have read the novel and seen the leaked script, and I don't see evidence of this at all. By the time Xiaoyao walked away from Xiangliu in Qingshui town, she made her choice to be Tushan Jing and she was going to go ahead with that choice until the end, no matter how that road turned out. Your suggestion that Xiaoyao was just wavering around hoping for a 'better deal' is pretty insulting to her character - and let's face it, Xiangliu is really not a better deal, considering he is still going to be the enemy of her brother.
My conclusion that Xiaoyao's long engagement to Fenglong and long engagement to Tushan Jing was due to completely different reasons. She definitely dreaded marrying Fenglong. At the time her mindset was waiting for others to rescue her from her situation. She wanted to fulfill her promise and logically she knew FL was the best choice, but her heart resisted it.
But by the time she was set to marry Jing, her mindset is hardly the same. She had grown in character. This was a union she herself fought for. In addition to the medical book project, wasn't there also war and unrest? In a 'normal' world, would anyone want to hold a grand event of their lives in a rushed manner? So those 43 years you are so fixated on, it just happened. In the lives of deities and LYF, decades can pass in the blink of an eye. And Xiaoyao was not lovesick at all, since they were meeting nearly every day. It was a happy and stable time of her life. The only difference was she wasn't officially Mrs Tushan Jing and the two of them are not starting a family yet.
Would you actually consider what I said or scoff and brush me off? hence I suggested waiting since we are both on the opposite ends of this opinion, unable to convince the other.
Just note the drama is going to branch off on its own for S2, so alot of things are going to change.
But season 2 really feels sooo rushed
"I never had the feeling XY kept Jing hidden, so many people knew about their relationship."
XY didnt keep Jing hidden, I meant she kept her deep feelings towards him hidden to him. After their breakup, every time they met, she pretended to be cheerful and fine.
Well seeing how drama is airing tonight, lets just watch it and enjoy first lol We come back later to chat about it again!
The bugs are just a connection, their hearts are also synchronised in beating. Does it really mean more than that? We shall see later.
I hope you can still enjoy S2!

Just note the drama is going to branch off on its own for S2, so alot of things are going to change.
