Even if we were to disregard what happened to the drama, it's still not good. Right from the beginning, episode 1 was straight up bad and it never got better. Even as a stand alone Joseon or time-travel drama, it's wonky and tacky. This drama got more holes than a swiss cheese. It reminds me of one of those Isekai anime where the dude transfer to another world with his smartphone/knowledge/expertise or anything give him an advantage which also allow for a very lazy writing to fill up a big chunk of episodes.
It's the usual idol lead in a school with sobby troubled teens cliches done to the cringest degree. Not cute. Not entertaining. Not funny. Not romantic. And definitely not a good music themed one. This drama seems to serve as a promotion piece for Yong Jun Hyung.
It took forever to get to the spicy bits but the comedy was really good. At the same time, some of the tangents were seriously boring. It's a light infidelity drama, it doesn't get too serious and melo. Neither of the couples got too far but the damage was done. There was some pacing issues as well, it didn't need 22 episodes.
Brothers rivalry done wrong. The plot is too ridiculous in a bad way, it lacked that tiny bit of sense to keep it grounded. Bad set up, lame characters, childish love triangle/square, disappointing revenge, and unnecessarily long. The last 5 episodes were very detached from what was established with plenty of random made up events with no clear direction to reach a reasonable conclusion.
Not a good orphans focused story. The flashbacks of the kids/teen were too damn long, boring, annoying and 100% deafening. My ears! After that, there was a whole lot of nothingness until the last few episodes where things started moving again. The story was too thin it would barely fit a 16 episodes run. Most of the cast were unlikable. The drama was full of annoyances but if I had to pick a one that stood out the most it would be Chun Won worthless existence. Chun Won knew the other orphans for a very very short and brief time when they were young, yet they considered her as one of them and let her get away with anything and everything all the time. Also, weak generic justice!
The whole husband death and force adoption was moronic to the nth degree. Not encouraging to keep watching at all. You know what else isn't encouraging? The chemistry between the leads. The man looks older than his real age and this only made the gap even bigger. You also get the following: unsatisfactory cringy payoff, child-like screechy mother-in-law, masochist doormat female lead, and a spoiled unlikable scumbag 2nd lead. This made the road to redemption unconvincing and remained so till the end. Although it got a teeny tiny bit better but the first 65 episodes remained utterly garbage. I know the writer wanted us to hate the mother-in-law but the least they could do at the end is to give her a terminal illness or just kill her. Judging by the writer's other projects, no wonder this was bad. She stopped writing since 2015 and I hope she never come back.
Is there any place to watch this without browsers throwing a malware warning?
Having an ad blocker (like uBlock) would help with any website. I personally don't watch anything online. The low quality is worse than watching with ads to me, that's why I download everything. I usually go to AvistaZ to download anything Asian.
It was unbelievably slow. It's the definition of uneventful. On the other hand, Jin Joo Hyung was unbelievably bland. The dude is stiffer than a plank of wood. Add to that his none existent chemistry. Nonetheless, the four leads relationships were boring anyway. And then there's Leo who spoke a few sentences in Italian and we never heard him speak later. Including a bit of Italian barely fit the budget!
They had 121 episodes but barely accomplished much with that. Most things left to the last second and that time-skip ending was bad. In general, they handled all the relationships very poorly, as poorly as you could imagine.
It's the usual long format daily drama in a cyclical company setting where the 4 leads butt heads each other for 130 episodes. It does nothing special and does many things poorly.
The synopsis is just awful and a sign that even MBC don't have a clear plan for the drama. Which was confirmed very shortly within a handful of episodes. It was solidified even further when the female lead Lee Ga Ryeong dropped out of the drama by episode 46. They didn't replace her with another actress, they just removed her character entirely. The drama went through a big shift after that, hopelessly trying to adjust the story but there was no saving since it was unserviceable from the very beginning. The old man love relationship was unbearable to watch. This might be the worst "family" centered drama which is weird because it's really hard to fuck up a family drama.
It feels much older than 2003 from the cinematography to the directing, pacing and score. There are older dramas that were technically made better. Maybe the budget was scarce for a long running format back then? The first batch of episodes weren't encouraging to get the viewers hooked at all. I didn't like most of the flashbacks, setting the drama on the wrong track. They should've gone right into the story then introduce brief flashbacks when it's fitting. Although the kids cast were good. Anyway, Lee Young Ae blew up right after this drama but she decided to disappear for 2 decades!
It doesn't do a good job making a "family" drama. The mother's fling seems to be taking most of focus. The family relationships are barely there. The inheritance/fortune thing mentioned in the synopsis was briefly mentioned for 1-2 episodes and became completely irrelevant after that. The drama had a big cast but lacked variety. Everyone was hang on their 1st love. Everyone was having marital problems in the last 10 episodes. Why repeating the same thing across all the couples?
What's even worse, the drama suffers from massive inconsistencies especially with Gang Jae. His character was changing at the writer's will while discarding earlier build up. Don't get me started on his love life too. Min Ji was too prominent for the first 10 episodes as a main character then suddenly disappeared for 12 episodes and only came back once every 5 episodes or so. Yoo Ra's husband had too much power and control over everyone until suddenly he didn't. And many more examples.
Thank goodness for your review. Saved myself hours of time and a big disappointment. That spoiler you wrote up…
Not a joke. He entered the room and shot both of them dead then killed himself. Even though Soo Jung was going back to him but he was completely out of his mind and having an extreme psychotic episode.
I like when Kim Sun Ah used to have a wider jaw line. I just miss the old Kim Sun Ah in general. Nowadays all her projects are about revenge and cunning. The drama is alright although it was lacking an interesting element. I was expecting the drama to explore more cases related to archeology but there were only a few. Meanwhile the romance was kinda cheesy but at least there was no big triangles.
Couldn't feel much chemistry between any of the trio. There was a lot of roaming around. I would prefer a little bit of more structure. The romance was its weakest part, forced and way too delayed. Maybe if they removed it and took it in a different direction would be better? It's still a passable watch.
The usual nipple twister makjang except this one take a wonky unfavorable route because it thinks itself special.…
The creepy obsessed Soo Hyuk ended up with Yoo Jung. It would have been infinitely better if she ended up alone or if she died or anything!! Soo Hyuk's father killed bother Yoo Jung's sister and father, then his mother tried to kill Yoo Jung's mother too! Still, they ended up together and had a kid. On the other hand, initially, Moo Yool's predicament with Yoo Jung seems very simple. He used to date Yoo Jung's sister when they were teens +10 years ago before she died.
