The drama had an awful love square going on, all four were a bunch of children. They literally behave, act and throw tantrums like children. Nonetheless, it's a badly written drama and the stupidity is overwhelming. It's unbelievable how stupid every single character. What's even worse than all of that is both male leads. Both can't act, pure cringe, weakest part of the cast and the worst characters in the drama.
Goddamn! It turned out to be even worse than I thought. The drama had a decent production value and had Lee So Yeon & Choi Yeo Jin as leads so I had a tiny bit of hope but not long after few episodes I was met with a disappointment after another. Both male leads were the weakest part of the cast, might as well bring random dudes from the streets to act. I can't take Choi Yeo Jin for an evil role. I'm way too used to her goofy vibes in other dramas. I could have cut the atrocious writing some slack if the ending was passable which unfortunately it wasn't. The last 10 episodes and the ending proceeded to deliver the ultimate disappointment. One of the laziest bullshit endings out there. The writer opted to press the reset button after we have gone through 100 episodes! It's unfortunate how the drama turned out to be because I was looking forward to see Choi Yeo Jin as an antagonist.
It's unbelievable how boring this drama was. Most of its run was wasted on a single plot that is the lost daughter. Other than the main characters, everyone else felt expendable and useless. The writer didn't put much effort in the side stories either. All of them were short and lacked development despite having 80 episodes. The romance was straight up forced and it only started to happen in the last 8 episodes. The drama clearly ran out of time or was cut short just by looking how they made the last 2 episodes. A quick abrupt time skip and a generic update of the character.
It turned to be better than expected. A little bit too tame and they play it safe. The big important events were delayed too much, they kinda don't start until the last 30 episodes. Would be better if they had a better spread since the middle parts were a bit dry. It's an okay watch if you like the cast.
The first 20 episodes were fast paced and full of hype but anything after that was just straight up disappointment one after another. When the truth was confirmed and the revenge started, things got painfully repetitive and boring. I liked the concept but the story never went as I hoped for. The plot twists initially were fine but they had so many twists that it became just plain stupid and a mockery of a story. It was unbelievable how dull Kang In Wook character was, might as well just remove him from the drama.
The revenge felt like it took forever. Like a very long chess game, waiting forever for each side to make a single move. Some plot holes were too obvious to ignore. Some events and decisions were gone too far for what is logical. Especially the earlier parts concerning Ka Young and Se Na. The revenge plan we initially saw didn't bring a satisfactory justice, it's like half a revenge.
The earlier parts were casual and normal but after that time skip of 1 year in episode 70 everything shifted and…
Ah Reum looks so miserable after the time skip, even in the last episode at her wedding. She married Gang Ho reluctantly but she didn't need to keep up with it out of guilt for using him. Young Kwang remained the ultimate sad boy.
The earlier parts were casual and normal but after that time skip of 1 year in episode 70 everything shifted and changed for the worse. The reason for the time skip is because the writer put herself in a corner she couldn't escape, she hit a massive wall and couldn't solve it with a radical unexplainable forced time-skip. Right from beginning of episode 70 before the skip, relationships suddenly and abruptly changed within the span of an episode. Afterwards, the female lead suddenly got extremely quit and could only whisper for the remainder of the drama. Young Kwang became completely useless and ruined his character, the writer did him dirty after the skip. Anyway, it's not like it was much better before the skip but still not as bad. Side stories sucked too.
Things were kinda fine until the events started to loop endlessly in a corporate setting. This is exactly how most of these daily dramas die and wither away. This drama is manufactured specifically to trigger the viewers by having constant intense shouting with every other sentence, boosted OST playing every 2 seconds to accompany the shouting, unbearable archetypes like the intense hatred and favoritism of the stepmother for one daughters over the other, and the stupid amnesia. The male lead character became absolutely dull after he had the accident, in fact, the entire drama turned for the worse after that.
Goddamn I actually really liked it, not entirely, the first half only. After the first half there was a significant drop in quality, it turned purely to be in a corporate setting, things got repetitive and meaningless, the writing got dumbed down, full of uneventful and boring scenes, became just like any other weak daily drama and lost almost every potential it had to be a decent drama. I wish it maintained the same consistency as the first half. The one thing that bothered me the most, and will probably bother everyone else, is how they terrorized Ha Eun, almost too much.
On another note, two couples got together in real life and married after the drama finished filming. The first couple was Ho Jin & Kate/Yoo Jin which is absolutely a delight, even their age gap is real. The second couple was So Won & Min Hyuk which is hard to imagine since they were enemies on screen. Also, this is the first drama I'm seeing from Shin Go Eun and I'm keen to check more of her roles.
Too bad the drama flopped because it had some potential. One thing that bothered me the most is how Ye Rin always got what she wanted. ALWAYS! The writer was trying too hard to change the love interest forcefully. It's cartoonish af! To make it worse, the female lead is one of those pathetic brain-dead leads who doesn't fight back and let everyone step on her because she is the nicest person in the universe. It's not like the drama had anything good going for it so whatever let this garbage burn....
To be clear, Shim Yi Young tried her best and it seems she was the only trying. The drama full of repulsive character like Cha Ban whose existence was painful to endure for 127 episode. I was expecting something a little better after the first 10 episodes. The writing was absolutely abysmal and there is no arguing about that. Extremely repetitive and uneventful. The big secrets are revealed and the story almost done as early as episode 70-ish, the remainder of the episodes were just random things. They made halve the character get sick after episode 70 because apparently illness = viewers engagement??
Just from watching the first 5 episodes the story was too thin and I was wondering how this will keep going for 103 episodes. It seemed impossible. The answer became apparent 20 episodes later. These relationships were seriously fucked up and what made them frustrating is that the characters over complicated everything on themselves to create "the" story. That's one of the worst ways to write a story. Everyone is fucking everyone, everyone is pregnant, everyone is lying, everyone is swapping DNA tests, everyone is swapping partners back and forth, everyone got a baby, everyone is the father and everyone is a sociopath. At the end, everyone hanging around with each other like nothing happened after all the vile acts against humanity and the nastiness they went through. I can't even!! Both the writing and the actors failed to show remorse. Finished the drama and the frustration and disgust didn't wash off. To get through this, you'll need a strong stomach.
