I'm on the same boat as you 100%. I liked this show so much. My top 5 favorite wuxia no question about it. But I guess we're in the minority practically speaking. Most people do not like wuxias or Cdrama with no "idols", the "cold prince" character, or no romance. Just my opinion but I think all of those are cliches and kinda makes the plot cringe 90% of the time. This show didn't do that even the lighting has a dark and somber tone to it compared to other wuxias.

Yeah I agree it wasn't that bad but definitely not the best either. It's just an average wuxia show. I enjoyed it but that's it. Time to move on to another show. That's how I treated it lool
I can't be the only one who really thinks this series is really good. Loved all the actors and actresses. Great story and romance! Hidden gem in my opinion.

As much as I like Ziyi, I think that during the course of the show she realizes CLS is the one for HF not her. The reason I think this is because when she and CLS both talk she comes to the realization that CLS did not have to do any of this. CLS essentially followed HF on her own accord despite being sick. This shows how CLS is like the flower that blooms for her lover no matter where he is, or what the circumstances are in reference to the flower goddess's story. CLS chose to bloom no matter where she is, even in death as the flower token.
On the other hand, Ziyi's must've been truly heartbroken to realize this. She realized she was not like the flower goddess at all. She was scared of her existence, scared of the negative karma from that, and her denial of her love for HF. She never bloomed for him except when she followed him to help the common people. She loved him, but never turned it into true love. If she continued to do this, even if she left him, I believe she would have ended up with HF. This show is so sad, but in my opinion such a great and underrated show. It is one of my personal favorites which I would call a masterpiece.

I watched the last episode again and I noticed that Hu Fei put CLS's grave in the same cave as his family was buried. Its clear from the series that this cave is where MRF comes to cherish his most trusted loved ones. If CLS is placed there then HF truly loves her. In fact, when Kid Ruolan asks him if he misses her he could've had a chance to explain how he loved Ziyi and because of that he dismissed her love advances towards him. He didn't but instead went on by explaining how she is just like the flower in the ancient story of the flower goddess.
Hu Fei and CLS's story is just like the flower goddess story. At first I thought it was Ziyi who was the "flower goddess", but it turns out she was the catalyst in progressing HF to meet CLS who is the actual depiction of the flower goddess. Like peperomia mentions, she is the flower that is etched in stone on his token which will be with him no matter where he is.
I came looking for copper but found GOLD! This show is so amazing! Has slight romance (but it's not in your face), mysterious cases that get weirder, and great soundtrack. LOVE IT! It's now a top 5 for me. Wholeheartedly recommend!!!!

This is just my opinion but I believe those who state the show isn't good is going based of what others have spoiled about the ending due to the fact that wuxias nowadays tend to be very happy and romantic. This show was not the case at all so thats why its viewed negatively. I for one did not think of this show like that at all after seeing all 40 episodes. Absolutely loved it! :D
