The funny thing being I was telling Noel last week that I’d have liked this more if they had stuck to it’s Chinese title which would have tilted the expectations correctly as a romance.

I feel like this isn’t a small introduction to the genre - it’s more like diving into the deep end as opposed to dipping your toe in. I know some have taken a sink or swim approach and have managed to swim but like @Arthenha said, look up the genre, maybe riffle through a few mangas and see if it’s your cup of tea.
And this isn’t to say you shouldn’t watch the drama either. I find it really enjoyable but being familiar with a new genre and themes that go along with it will always be a smarter approach imo.

It’s Hua Yong that doesn’t want more children. SSY does consider having one (or at least it’s implied that he considers at least one more) and Gao Tu and SWL don’t have Hua Yong’s reservation about expanding the family. 😂

In the novel, it is said that SSY because of his Alpha physique, didn’t even show - he gained a little weight and was a bit more tired. The novel also didn’t have a graphic birthing scene but does mention that SSY had a difficult birth and almost died which is why Hua Yong doesn’t want any more children. Hua Yong almost lost his mind.

It’s the same with Gao Tu. No graphic birthing scenes. So I don’t expect the drama to show either.

Well I’m watching 5 or 6 shows now and though I like most of them this one is my guilty pleasure of the week. I like dark/gray characters so I adore Hua Yong.
But I am enjoying Chen Feiyu’s new xianxia drama and “This Thriving Land” it’s about the Chinese land reform movement in 1936.
Dominion and Devotion is also a mini series that I am liking very much. 😊

I am not too deeply into omegaverse and I understand some people have their reservations about it but I have also found some beautifully well-written fics in this genre that explore dark themes. Like, one Mpreg fanfic rewired my brain on how it explored domestic violence and the journey of healing.

In the trailer (the long one they released) you can hear Hua Yong telling Long Zuo to “give her another child” he says the same thing in the novel and in that Long Zuo replies “maybe next year. I can’t do it this year, I’m busy.” There was also another part where it was implied that he carried the child.

But like the others already replied above in Omegaverse, Female Alphas do have the ability to impregnate their Omega partners (be it male or female)

Better Days is indeed one of Zhou Dongyu’s best works. Glad you were able to find something you enjoy this much.
