On episode 8 and while I am enjoying the show, this non stop consort bitchiness back and forth is getting tedious. I enjoy/love shows with court politics but this is just a perpetual wheel of scorned women being petty, there is no real tension and I am just annoyed all the time. Sigh. But I enjoy the smarts and conniving of our FL. She is spunky and the acting is flawless all around. Watching her scenes and those of the emperor with his Chamberlain are keeping me hanging on. Please god of dramas tell me the plot grows beyond these bitter women. I. AM. TIRED.
First time watcher here. Now I understand the hype I'd heard about this show. Very well made, top notch acting, smooth flowing, not too much filler content. On episode 36 and let me tell you I CANNOT WAIT till Run Yu rains hellfire and brimstone on the Heavenly Realm, or something similar haha.
They all mostly piss me off. An emperor that is a cowardly, selfish tomcat who takes NO responsibility and that sour puss Empress who needs roasting of the eternal, never ending kind; a selfish dude (Apple meet tree) whose defense of his abused and maltreated older brother is tepid at best and is unsympathetic and non existent other times. That "dual cultivation" scene really pissed me off. IYKYK. Eff a phoenix bursting in the sky/air and magenta flowers unfurling! Grrrr That's just WRONG!
Usually if the villain is not the ML acting as an anti-hero I am always rooting for the good guys. This time I want to see him (Run Yu) victorious for at least a dozen episodes before he gets punished and then I hope he eventually has a happy ending. Maybe I am in my "mean girl era". Who knows? Eff them ALL up lol!
I just don't really feel that enraptured by Xu Feng and his little grape. I don't hate them, they're cute together. Weirdly enough I liked her more when she was just an innocent sprite living her life. I'm just kinda blah about their "great love" but am still loving the show. Call me crazy. Going to be interesting how I get through these following episodes.
On Episode 8. I am desperately hoping they shock me and make her end up with the 2nd ML cause this main guy is not it. I love push and pull but this is ALL push sprinkled with some FWB and boatload of nostalgia/history. It's getting annoying and as much as I believe one should fight for love, there should be some sort of reciprocity you're receiving that's making the "fight" worth it. These crumbs he is giving would leave me STARVING and looking elsewhere to be fed. UGH! Soooo frustrating, but I'm going to keep watching cause I'm invested now.
Started out as an exciting, adrenaline fueled dash out the gates and ended with a convoluted half skip to the finish line. I'm so mad. It's as if the writer had a new project and just wanted off this lickety split. The first four episodes were entertaining enough to wash away some of the disappointment. Hard to rate. 1st half 9/10. the rest 6.5/7 out of 10. Second kdrama in a row with a great start and meh ending.
"Hey. Guy. I am on to you. This is what I'm gonna do next." Said NO chess player ever. FFS Keep your cards hidden till the right time. Everything was great in this show but WHY for the love of non stupidity in a drama do (1)the good guys like to let the bad guy know they are on to them? I guess it's the trade off for (2) bad guys who like to go on a long ass spiel before killing the good guy. Ugh whatever. (1.)SHUT UP! (2.)KILL HIM/HER QUICKLY! I guess then everything would be three episodes lol
One episode to go before I finish this. I will have a final verdict then.
I don't even have the words. What a strange last two episodes. The show started as a somewhat gripping drama-thriller (I think it lacked a bit in suspense so the dramatic music was overkill for certain scenes) full of moral questions and debates on scientific experiments and their benefit to mankind/humanity, backed by an energy, an atmosphere not often found in kdramas. I can't explain, I'm tired. There were the kdrama cliches (these damn chaebols and their greed, eye roll lol) )but the screenplay gave it a "different" feel. Watch it to see what I mean...
Then it ended as a sloppy, rushed tale with a tepid downfall of the villain, an "all for show" mea culpa and a last act that left me bored instead of curious or hungry for a resolution. It all felt so unfinished and bizarre. That lame "twist" at the end...I don't even care what happened to the two leads that's how awful I felt as the credits rolled. What a shame.
I liked that both the main characters were stoic and unapologetic in their pursuits even though both were compelled by grief and loss. It added to that energy I spoke of above. They never faltered or were shaken from their path and even for each other, they made only the smallest concessions. It created a palpable tension which if not present would have made this a very dull show. Superb acting by the entire cast though, everyone was believable in their roles.
It could have been a masterpiece but something was missing for me. I kept feeling like it was searching for greatness but ultimately missed the target. Gave it an 8 for the fresh premise and the moments that were actually tense and those that made me ponder the question of "Where should science draw the line?".
Had its flaws but I was never bored. I watch dramas to be entertained, not given lessons in morality. My surly, apple cider vinegar, possessive Xie We, he with the master scowl and sumptuous lips! lol Loved him. Enjoyed the camraderie, the non sappy relationship between the leads (I didn't come for fluff and sweetness) watching Yan Lin kicks ass and was happy I gave this show a chance. Really great watch.
For people not familiar with Korean/Japanese history, myths and folklore this might not be as enjoyable. Solid movie. I enjoyed it but it was missing something that stopped it from being a masterpiece. I think it should have been longer or a short series. There was a lot of information one had to fill in for yourself and again without a historical backstory it's easy for people to feel lost/confused. eg demon mentions Sekigahara and unless you know Japanese history, this sentence has no significance as a viewer.
The acting was stellar; I mean, that cast... Very eerie and atmospheric and it was fascinating watching the shamanic rites and rituals eg. the initial scene at the Park grave site and the first hospital bed scene with the three women conversing to get "someone" to wake up/join the conversation.
I was anticipating a 9/9.5 movie, I got an 8.0. Worth the watch if you enjoy folk horror.
Very understated action show. Events that could have been melodramatic were instead dealt with pragmatically, I'd dare say the shinobi way (?). Action scenes that could have been super bloody and gory were crisp and the fighting brisk and effective. True to Japanese culture (in a general sense), everything was restrained; from the romance, the hinted at suspicion/jealousy of the spouses, the grief, the villain...
This was a lean machine and I enjoyed its simplicity after just finishing the wild ride that Vagabond (Kdrama) put me through.
As for the music I completely understood why it- though seemingly an ill fit- was perfect. It added a quirkiness to what could have been a run of the mill action movie OST. Hearkens back to many Japanese movies where someone is being sliced and diced and it's shown in a very droll, matter of fact manner. You almost forget the violence on display eg Tokyo Gore Police, Takashi Miike movies etc.
I only gave it an 8 because something was lacking and I can't quite put my finger on it so I won't guess at what it is. I said lean so maybe it was TOO lean. Needed a bit more "meat"? Sill, enjoyable and good for a quick binge. I will keep my eyes open for Season 2.
Just got done bingeing. This show is so badly good and so goodly bad and OTT with a capital Q! Invincible Bruce Chan saves the universe, one angry outburst and judo throw down at a time! lol Highly enjoyable with tons of thrilling action, adrenaline pumping scenes, exhilarating car chases etc.. This man can do no wrong, except Jesus lawd WHY was he so impatient and hot tempered and never stopped to think for a second before barrelling into trouble? Like chill dude, I want you to nail the bad guys to the wall too for Hooni's sake (what a cutie patootie that kid is) but take a breath and go make a good plan first. Yeesh!
The coincidences were unreal (random meet up with the nation's prez on some street lol), the access this man had! So many events/situations were also highly implausible, the bullet dodging was god tier smh Don't get me started on my queries of how his broke ass was surviving, traipsing across Seoul raising hell on the daily. Yet I enjoyed every single second of the show.
Not one filler scene, no frilly time wasting and the villains weren't exaggerated diabolical caricatures like some kdramas have. I managed to guess wrong on someone I thought would be a bad guy which rarely happens so I was pleasantly surprised. Great chemistry among the cast, I watch too many BLs (took a sabbatical from them 'cause brain over-saturation) so for a second all I could envision were scenes of UST between the two male leads haha! Personal problem. Twas not to be but I am also glad this stayed lite on the attraction between the ML/FL. I wasn't looking for that type of show.
I waited years to watch this but i was running out of good action shows and said what the hell. So glad I hit play. A fun albeit sometimes frustrating watch. Now I understand all the hype I had heard about it. Was looking for a fast paced bang bang, pew pew (pyoo pyoo?) show and this delivered in spades. Well done everyone involved. Waiting for part two. Calmly. Patiently. See, God of War? This is how you do it.
If it wasn't 4am I would go grab a Subway sandwich. ;-)
Just started this show. Episode one. Literally pausing it to come here to voice my thoughts on how brilliant the little kid actor is, I died laughing at his antics and am so impressed by his facial expressions and acting. That's it.
I am currently watching this and it's enjoyable enough (I did get dizzy/nauseous with the shaky cam market fight scene though) but damn Netflix!!! WHO do they have translating this? C'mon man. By now they should have a set team of great translators, not someone who is translating "Yeobeo" as "Hey come back", among tons of other wrong words/lines. WTF?! Thank goodness for years of watching kdrama and learning a bit of Korean, so much context is getting lost in the translation.
The manga itself only has 2 volumes, and most of the story is in the present, with around 25% of flashback. I…
"Kyuuso wa Cheese wo Yumemiru" is one of my all time favorite BL movies AND mangas! I've watched it at least three times. I have a very good source for translated mangas, its novels I can't find :(
To think the super successful Iron Man and the Marvel movies would not have been made/released due to Robert Downey's past prolific drug use and many drug related scandals and subsequent incarceration. So many great artists of different mediums have been "bad people" or people with huge personal failings:alcoholics (Hemingway, Charles Bukowski), horrible on set (Hitchcock), cruel misogynists (Picasso), Francis Bacon alcoholic/asshole, Paul Gaugin asshole etc the list is endless. Yet no one can deny their talents and their names live on long after their deaths as some of the best in history in their crafts.
But here we are in 2024...anasthesia medication/sleeping pills! Netflix: Oh no!!! Someone bring my pearls, I must clutch them tight!!!
In everything I have seen him in, be it movie or dramas he ha shown up, does excellent work and has been professional. Pay the man, release the drama and stop the hypocrisy. If everyone was lily white we would have nothing to read, watch, listen to...

I haven't read the manga so i did not realize it was so short. It must be difficult though for production companies et al to decide what to adapt seeing as how there are SO many mangas etc to choose from. I LOVE JBLs so I'll watch anything from them honestly so keep 'em coming! Some of the mangakas whose work I love have great stories but they are definitely too dark for mass distribution/tv viewing, so there is that too.
Unfortunately for me I can't read any Japanese and it's hard to find well translated Japanese to English BL novels. :(
I just got done with this absolute melodramatic mayhem of a makjang. I'm overwrought, exhausted and just plain…
Final episode: one thing that niggles me though, if JDT went in the safe and OYH was with the body in the study, WHEN and HOW did he get out for him to accuse her of murder when the cops are dragging her out of the penthouse?! Yeah, after 21 episodes of bat-shit craziness, that's what's bothering me. Go figure. ha ha
