Just watched the first two episodes, and maybe I missed something. Need help. Here’s my confusion and can someone help correct or confirm the setup? Shen Wan is the daughter of a minister, and she seems to have lived in the medical valley for years, possibly since childhood. She already had solid medical knowledge when she met Qin Wan, a sickly girl who arrived in the valley with her father. Shen Wan treated her, and they became close. Qin Wan eventually died and from the tone and pacing, it feels like this all happened a long time ago, not recently. But here’s the problem, later Shen Wan’s family is accused of murder in connection with the Prince of Jin case, and the drama implies that this is a recent event. Her family along with Qin Wan’s father tries to escape but are killed. Shen Wan survives and assumes Qin Wan’s identity to enter the Qin household. That’s where the timeline feels off. If Shen Wan had already been in the valley for years, long enough to become skilled and treat Qin Wan, wouldn’t that mean her family fell from grace and fled the capital long ago? How can the murder they’re accused of be a recent case if Shen Wan was living in isolation all that time? or simply it is not a recent case and it just feels like that in the drama 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

FR. Viki is better with subs than Mango but I hate that Viki is always a few episodes behind. 🥹
I think we all finished looking at the episodes with bad subs, so we can all rant or be happy here in the comment section together🤣😂. Waiting for Viki is like having to stay away from the comment section 😅

This drama is so meh for me at this point that I can't even muster the energy to be annoyed by the plot holes…
11???? Okay, now everything makes sense. 🥲 I might try to fast-forward through the episodes… if I can dig deep enough into my self-destructive tendencies to willingly subject myself to it while I'm stuck in traffic on the bus 😅😅

I agree this drama had so much potential on paper, and I actually like the leads. But somehow, none of it really translated well onscreen. There was always something missing, and with a script this weak, it just collapsed under its own weight. I wish I could hate it at least then I’d feel something and maybe push through to the end. But no, I’m stuck in this emotional vacuum. Every time I hit play, it felt like opening an almost empty fridge, hoping something appetising will magically appear… or that my standards would drop low enough to make it edible. Neither happened. so good luck to the actors and may their next project be better. ps. yes I'm watching Dream drama too

I really tried hard with this one and I really wanted to enjoy it but it’s been on hold for me for three days…
This drama is so meh for me at this point that I can't even muster the energy to be annoyed by the plot holes or questionable writing choices. I’m on episode 23(technically for the third time)because every time I try to watch it, I get distracted and end up missing entire scenes. I’d fast forward, but even that feels like too much emotional investment. I will say, I do like the ending soundtrack. Anyway, see you in another comment section 😉

Nan Rui's redemption I can get on board with, but the emperor? Nope. Years of abusing his own son and now he's…
It’s gaslighting at its finest. But of course, he’s the Emperor, the Son of Heaven so clearly always right. And let’s not forget the sacred cough filial piety cough clause that magically excuses everything 😅🥲

Yeah, I don't care, they will never make me not hate the emperor. He treated ML like shit even before his wife…
Ah yes, the sacred law of filial piety: where revenge goes to die and characters willingly forgive the family that abused them 😅

the screenwriter has only wasted over 30 episodes with one of most annoying attitude of FL versus ML ever seen…
I don't know if it was intentional from the writers but this ML is essentially a textbook case of chronic emotional neglect. He’s been so consistently deprived of stable affection and validation that he’s developed a trauma response where even the smallest gesture of warmth triggers appeasement behaviors. In fact, from a psychological standpoint, his behaviour is accurate for a person like him. His forgiveness is the desperate logic of someone whose entire self-worth was wired around earning affection through suffering

CGH is now stepping in to be the next Gao uncle, aka the villain. But anyways he is needed to drive the major…
The moment Nan Heng refused his villain arc and CGH started making shady choices, it was game over for him. The script clearly needed someone to carry the 'fallen ex-good guy' torch because apparently, everything else in the story is flexible except the sacred Main Plot Points. You can rewrite personalities, motives, even reality itself, but not the scriptwriters' milestones. There was one promo scene where the characters rebel against the plot or something, so I guess that will be what happens when they realise they don't have any free will to change the main plot points 🤔

What’s wrong with this Chu Qiu Hong???!!! He is crazy.Nan Rui is dumb but he is also wise and self aware that…
It’s not madness, it’s classic ego preservation. When your entire identity is built on hating someone, the truth becomes a personal apocalypse. Much easier to rewrite reality than admit you’ve been wrong this whole time

Just because you (emperor)came to know your mistake that doesn't mean I will forgive you .....u still need to…
It might seem strange, but from a psychological standpoint, it actually makes a lot of sense. Nan Heng spent his whole life being starved of recognition, love, and trust especially from his father. So when he finally receives that validation, even after enduring unimaginable torment, he's willing to suppress his pain just to hold onto that long-denied approval. As for CGH, he spent years consumed by hatred for Nan Heng, projecting onto him everything he believed was corrupt or wrong. But in the end, he became exactly what he despised. And now, faced with the truth (that Nan Heng was innocent and genuinely good) his entire worldview would collapse. That’s too much for him to process. So instead of accepting the full weight of his mistakes, he clings to his version of reality, where Nan Heng must still be the villain. It’s a defense mechanism, rewriting the narrative so he doesn’t have to rewrite himself

Sorry Nan Rui for mistakenly believe you as villain. He is even apologized to Nanheng for accusing him to kill…
When NR fell with those tangerines, etc., I really thought, "Okay, he has to be pretending to be stupid..." but after the rest of the scenes, my conviction faltered 🫣

I'm still a bit behind, at ep 20, but reading all you guys' opinions on the angst I am starting to feel anxious…
remember that everything feels way more intense when you’re watching it live, episode by episode. The angst drags on, the cliffhangers feel personal. But if you’re binging it later, that emotional suffering solves itself faster. So no need to be anxious… you’ve got the ultimate secret weapon: “Next Episode” 😏😉

It really seems like the script requires at least one character to follow the “good person corrupted by circumstances or perceived injustice” trajectory. In the original version, that was clearly Nan Heng; once he crossed the line, he spiraled into villainy. But in this edited version, it’s CGH who’s slipping into that role. Yes, his descent might’ve started as a naive child manipulated by others, but he's now carrying the same archetype: the once-loyal, emotionally driven character who turns bitter, heartless, cruel, and destructive. Since the script was altered (at the request of the ML’s manager), Nan Heng, who in the original draft was meant to descend into darkness, didn’t. As well, the FL actress didn’t act like the original character FL would have; her arc changed parts of the story too. And that darkness had to go somewhere, so now it’s CGH embodying the role of the tragic antagonist. Not that we care too much, as he is unbearable from the get-go 😆😅

That is nothing; wait for 12 and join us all in our collective WTF moment 🥹
It felt like someone accidentally dropped a scene from another drama into the script and just rolled with it. Character development? Emotional consistency? what's that 🥲😅

the mother was probably poisoned by someone powerful because she knew too much. And our ML, dutiful, tortured,…
That's a great decision! 😅
