I believe he is well aware of the emperor's potential for cruelty, so it wouldn't make a significant difference. In general, I think he understands the emperor better than anyone else, but his relationship with HZ caused him to make a mistake (try to protect shen family), which resulted in the emperor's negative reaction. As I said in other comments, the only way for Yanxi to achieve true freedom is for the emperor to die. No one can simply leave and hide from him and expect to find happiness, as he holds the most power in that world

My favourite emperor was the one in The Long Ballad. I loved how he was written and his character overall. The one in LLTG was cute but not very realistic. He was adorable, but I couldn't take him seriously as a character. The one in this drama is unlikable but very believable, so I appreciate the character a lot

I think in this case it was just the Emperor showing Yanxi the potential consequences of any future dissent or deviation from the emperor's own opinions, more than him applying his country's rules. It was a flex: "I can condemn a whole family in the same way I can save them. Don't you dare ever to do anything else than obey, Yanxi." 😅

My guess is that he will only do something if the Emperor puts HZ in harm's way. He will not act before because right now HZ is safe, even if she is not with him anymore. He did not even protest when she decided to leave him. Realistically, what can he do against the emperor? He could only help some prince overthrow him if there is significant military backup. So I guess we only have to wait for the emperor to die or for him to forgive Yanxi (in case he ever goes against the emperor to protect HZ), and then he dies. Because in any scenario, the emperor needs to die for Yanxi and everybody else to be free 😅

Because you invest your time in some characters, and if they are not together and happy in the end, people feel cheated. By the way, there is a drama where the FL did not end up with the ML (luckily), and it was Fighting for Love. 😆😅🤣 She was definitely happier alone than with that trash 😅

Given the situation, it was actually the only way forward. He didn't even try to stop her because he knew she was right. As for the actors, I think the ML's acting is a bit lacking in general, so maybe that is the reason you felt there was something off. I think I grew quite fond of his character in the drama that at this point my brain just filters out when the acting is not the best. As well, the director seems to want to portray them as mature and rational, but in doing so, he seemed to have forgotten to give some emotion to the moment and the way the actors had to show it, maybe in a subtle movement, hesitation, or glance. But i guess with little episodes left and so much story to unfold that is the best we could get 😅

It is not as if he can just walk away from the Emperor. The only thing he could eventually do is support some prince to overthrow him, given that he can have good military support. The Emperor is obsessed with him and would go to the ends of the earth to find and kill him (and everybody he ever cared about) if he walks away. That said, I'm happy she broke up with him and doesn't want to be used as a pawn, nor her family as hostages to be killed whenever the emperor seems to think Yanxi is not being his sword. They can only be together if the emperor dies

I hope that the show's writers will consider giving the characters a full wedding by the end of the series and allow them to take a year off from their responsibilities to travel and enjoy their new life together 🥲 one can hope expecially bevause until now they did everything quite well, I'm impressed 🤭

For once, a breakup that made sense, that was not a silly misunderstanding or some random reason. I was watching and I could think for myself: yes, I would do the same in a situation like that. There is no other way at the moment. I feel sorry for both of them and hope they will find a way to solve the emperor problem. 😅 By the way, this emperor is very well-written, and he is not the usual caricature of a man like in many other dramas. As well, he is so unpredictable with his paranoid and selfish personality

Yes, as he tells her, his surname is Gu, which is the royal family's surname. As well, he tells her who his father is, etc.

I mean, they do take shortcuts to solve problems. Look at Fudong. She went from having zero confidence to almost 100 in one night. I wish it were that easy in real life, but they have time limitations, so everything can happen quickly. So I guess they will solve other problems in a similar way, but hopefully, it will make sense. They do like to rush everything in the last few episodes 😅

Being a female-centric story, it somehow feels more intriguing to have the FL have the ultimate confrontation with some cunning woman instead of the prince or the paranoid emperor. 🤔 Especially if it's going to be a battle of wits, but let's see if the writers can pull it off. PS. The prince and the emperor should be the ML's problem to solve

Maybe when they write a modern FL, they feel a stronger connection to her in their stories and can immerse themselves better in the story. Or they may find it easier to write a character with contemporary ideas, attitudes, and survival strategies 🤷🏼‍♀️

Chemistry can be quite a personal matter. I believe they share a strong connection, and I enjoy seeing them as a couple. It would have been even better to witness more passion between them, but we cannot always have everything we desire. 😆

He went and explained everything to her personally, and she listened to him and comprehended his justifications. She did not condemn him because she recalled all the positive things he had done and understood why he had done the other things (regarding her family, etc.). It was so refreshing and mature, great communication so far between them

I think at this point it is more surprising when an original novel is not a transmigration story 😅

Interesting, I hope the palace arc will not disappoint, but until now, I am quite happy with how the story is progressing 😁
