I've been wanting to watch this movie for a long time mainly because I'm a long term fan of 2 Days 1 Night and…
Well, I agree with everything you said. When I finally got around to watching this, I almost turned it off several times, wondering why it is so famous. I am still not sure why I stuck it out, but what saved it for me was the last twenty minutes, when it finally turned serious and adult. I have advised people new to Korean movies and dramas to only watch that final segment. The rest is a waste of time.
Lesle, It occurs to me that we have been running into each other since Her Love Boils Bathwater, over two years ago. Shiva1082, who reviewed that was my son, who died in Jan. 2019. Not looking for sympathy -- just think that he wrote a good review.
Very average show with some subpar acting and terrible music choices Absolutely butchering some characters from…
Thank you. I have been scrolling through the comments, puzzled by the unwarranted praise. The only thing 'new' here is that the creatures are not called zombies.
I think that Park Hoon is a super actor. I don't understand why he is not getting lead roles. He dominated his scenes in Memories Of The Alhambra. He was powerful here as well. Does he have a bad reputation for some reason? Just wondering.
I would like to ask a question. MDL says that I have been signed up for three years, but I believe that I was visiting longer than that. I have noticed some nastiness appearing in the exchanges, which I had not encountered before. I was recently called 'dumbass' for criticizing repetitive use of some K-drama tropes in a recent drama. On another occasion, I questioned the acting ability of a major female star and received very nasty blowback. Really, all I had done was agree with the criticism of a few others. One thing I have enjoyed about MDL was the friendly exchange of opinions. Have you noticed any of this, or have I just had some unlucky episodes? Thank you.
I watched this three months ago, and I am still returning 2-3 times a week to view favorite scenes. I wonder who the people are who gave it the low scores that brought the average to where it is. The performances of Kim Hee Ae and Yoo Ah In were wonderful. Some of the cinematography was worthy of Kurosawa. Is it too adult, perhaps? I wonder if some are upset by the marital infidelity, or the December-May aspect, and thus 'punish' the drama with a low score. The plot establishes that most of the marriages in the drama are of the 'sham' variety, especially that of Seo Young Woo. Giving this a low score for those reasons would be like giving Hot Stove league a low score because one does not like sports.
Hello. Well, I checked out "Can you hear my heart?" I had to semi-drop it because the plot advanced so slowly, I was getting nervous. That was a shame because I liked the major plot-points. I did skip through it, so I caught the major parts. It should have been half as long. Of course, the main reason I was there was to see if Namgoong Min was capable of showing a persona other than the one he showed in "Hot Stove League" and "Doctor Prisoner." The MDL comments on "Awaken" do not inspire me to check that out, but I imagine that I will have opportunities in the future to see if he has fallen into a rut, acting-wise.
There is that old saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I find great beauty in the writing of Lee Woo-jung.…
"I'm fed up with Korean dramas." I am having the same problem. I discovered K-dramas and movies about five years ago. At that time, it was easy to find the great ones by sifting through the top money-makers and award-winners, then by going through the "top shows" and "top movie" lists here on MDL. The problem has become one of having gone through the very best. Now the experience is more hit-and-miss. I have grown tired of people falling off of roof-tops and landing on cars, or cars getting poleaxed by a perfectly-timed truck at an intersection. Once in a while a gem appears. Secret Love Affair only has an average rating of 7.7, but I loved the music, the writing, and the acting of Kim Hee Ae and Yoo Ah In. The comment section is filled with people like me asking, "Why is the rating so low?"
BTW, I assume that you are aware that I mentioned Reply 1988 because it is also written by Lee Woo-Jung. The acting of Ra Mi Ran is always a draw for me as well.
I've just finished watching and I don't understand the high rating. What's so special about this drama? This is…
There is that old saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I find great beauty in the writing of Lee Woo-jung. There are scenes of great hilarity, and scenes of great sadness. There is intelligence and a lack of the repetitive tropes that plague so many K-dramas. I 'only' gave Hospital Playlist a rating of 9.5, but I seldom give 10's. Did you view Reply 1988? Did you like it? I am not one of those people who hates others who disagree with me. I am simply curious.
I have watched an awful lot of Korean dramas and movies over the last five years. I have to say that there is no writer whose work I enjoy as much as that of Lee Woo-jung, especially Hospital Playlist and Reply 1988. More than the actors and directors, she is the 'star of the show.' I hope that more writers can rise to the standard she has set.
I don't think i've seen other works from her but in this drama she was always so stiff... Those long, silent,…
The first time I saw her was in My Mister, one of my very favorite dramas, in which she played a bad actress. I thought that she did very well, but have since realized that it was a case of type-casting. : ))
Like what ?? How can you judge from first episodes... You can't expect a thriller drama without murder... Atleast…
Did you ever consider the possibility that sometimes in life people fall, or jump, from buildings and DON'T fall on cars. They land on sidewalks, or between cars, or on the street. It is the cheap, repetitive tropes that I am objecting to. The other commenters seemed to understand that.
I would like to see more of Hee Kyung and Joon Woo. Im Se Mi's performance is right on point. Can Cha Eun Woo move his face? I am wondering if he has had too many botulism injections.
Due to the high rating and favorable comments, I decided to give this a try. Within the first few minutes of the first episode a man goes off of a roof and falls onto a car. This trope must appear in a third of all Korean dramas. Next, a car is driving down the road and gets poIeaxed by a truck in an intersection. That seems to happen in a lot of K-dramas as well. Is there anything original in this drama, or is it all cliches?
BTW, I assume that you are aware that I mentioned Reply 1988 because it is also written by Lee Woo-Jung. The acting of Ra Mi Ran is always a draw for me as well.
