when i see drama xiyun not being able to handle a small sect when novel xiyun was able to rule her kingdom and lead her powerful generals and army without any issue (because the mariage alliance was after all only for her to be able to gain her a freedom again while having lanxi protect her people) i wonder how many changes they did and i’m a bit worried … that one part where she gone mad because the maid was washing her bloody clothes, i need to see lusi plays that part, my heart was so broken for xiyun while reading the novel they can’t remove it PLEASE 😭

yep, in the novel many people were conflicted with lanxi character since he’s morally really grey and my guess is, since yang yang is the one playing him they couldn’t let people dislike his character so they changed his personality and made him morally better, for now the only thing they kept is his materialistic side but i’m not losing hope because in episode 18 preview he talks about how he wants to be the king ect, so maybe the cunning and power-hungry side will be back (because i want the angst and need him to kill his family in the most cruel way 🤣)
one point i would like to mention as a novel reader which might explain some things; (i know i shouldn’t do that since they told us since the beginning it’ll be very different from the book but since they kept many scenes and dialogues from the novel i can’t help but compare and wonder 😭) i don’t remember if it’s in episode 3 or another one but this one part where xiyun gets mad at lanxi for not saving people from the fire and call him many names but then she notices the two men and learns he actually saved people; well this part, drama lanxi is for now very much a hero while in the novel he’s honestly more an anti hero and in that one particular scene, lanxi actually didn’t save anyone and only took the wealth (he did feed the people in the streets however it was only for his good image) which is why she was so upset because he didn’t save the women or the maids in the house and everyone died that night (in the drama they kept her insults but changed his actions which is why it’s confusing why she said that to him) also many might have an issue understanding why xiyun was really prejudiced against him (and even hostile) at first and it’s because contrary to the drama portraying him as someone almost perfect right? he doesn’t always say nice things to her (i feel like only episode 1 showed this a bit) and the novel implies that this kind of situations (where he showed his highly cunning, cruel and selfish side) happened many times in the past reason why novel lanxi said during this scene “if i didn’t do this, how can i be the feng xi that you know in your heart” which leads me to hope the drama kept more of his cunning and very ambitious side because there are many importants scenes that are related to his personality including NOVEL SPOILERS the way he used her for his revenge against his family and also the most heartbreaking scene between them (when he considers betraying her because of ren words and his hesitation making her suffer her biggest loss) those are so important for the angsty part so as much as i love perfect hubby lanxi i hope we will see more of his power-hungry side
