I enjoyed reading your very clever article!
I had never actually realized that there was this kind of difference in drama plots so your article was a real eye opener for me!
Personally having watched almost 400 dramas I can say that I am rather fed up with old school type of dramas full of clichès so I try to steer away from them if I can.
However I can't say I totally enjoy slice of life dramas either as if they are too realistic they can turn out to be boring for me (See OldBoy as a very recent example) as I also need escapism from real life!
So I would say that a good mixture of both is what I would prefer. However what really excites me are the rare times when genus writers use very little of either types with a lot of imagination and manage to deliver excellent and original plots ( a few examples are Chicago Typewriter, Goblin, Misty).

Dropped this drama at Episode 39. After so much dragging the story took such a clichè turn I couldn't stand it any longer. And I didn't like the male lead anyway...he was a jerk from the beginning! A total waste of time for me but we all have different tastes and I respect those who enjoyed this.

This was a great drama!! I was so glad to see Kimura Takuya back in such a great project and I hope to see more of him in the future. Everything here was perfect, the story, the pace, the cast and the fact that the episodes were not totally detached from each other. The essential and dry Japanese style here was perfect.
On Should We Kiss First? Apr 25, 2018
This started out as a funny and quirky story and then became a real melo in the second half but the aspect that I appreciated most was that the melo part was dealt in a very soft, easygoing and positive manner.
Yes I wish this had been a simple romcom without the tragic aspect but I was happy with how it was all dealt with and presented.
Kim Sun Ah and Kam Woo Sung had a good chemistry and I found the best friend couple hilarious and necessary to lighten the whole atmosphere of the story. I hope for a happier next project for Kim Sun Ah.

Thanks so much for this article and for the heads up! I am always waiting for historical or modern Chinese dramas without fantasy and this one looks just like my cup of tea. I will patiently wait for the subs on Viki. :-)

Thanks so much for this very informative article. I had a feeling that there was a lot of work involved in the subbing and this article confirmed what I thought. I really want to thank all the subbers for their hard work and patience which allow us to enjoy so many wonderful dramas! <3

Out of these I have seen Biscuit Teacher and Sorry I love You and I consider them really beautiful classics worth to be seen even more than once. Other two classics which are family dramas that I would recommend are East of Eden and Giant which also have the nostalgic feeling for me.

I watched up to Episode 12 so far and I am enjoying it too. I personally found very frustrating how the main lead treated his son at first. Yes he was spoiled but he had just lost his mum and been kicked out by his foster father and really had nowhere to go, so the lead's attitude towards him (and his dog) was too harsh for me. In any case I imagine this relationship will improve as the story develops so I am curious to see where it goes.

KTW, well I’d forgive him anything but the fact that he set up GHR as the killer because he wanted her to suffer,…
I totally agree...I think the only big mistake that GHR made was that of not telling KTW about Kevin Lee blackmailing her. All that happened afterwards could have been avoided.

Alternative ending: While all the clues point to KTW being the killer, GHR keeps faith in him til the very end…
Fantastic alternative ending...I love it!!

I guess I am the only one who so unconvinced with story taking this turn in last few episodes... So many loose…
HR never asked anyone to kill for her and those acts had a terrible impact on her which made her a victim of those choices...everyone in life is free to make their own decisions and therefore have to bear the consequences of their own free will without blaming it on others.

What an amazing drama!! Everything here was perfect for me including the writing and the ending which totally made sense with the whole story. It's the first time for me to see Kim Nam Joo on screen and I was stunned at how perfect she is both with her acting and with her looks. The writers were able to keep the viewers doubting about the culprit up until the very end in a very clever way. This is definitely one of the best dramas of the season for me.
I am probably one of the few who wasn't a big fan of NIF 1 as I only enjoyed the second half of that story, so I started watching NIF2 without too many expectations. However I have to say that this time I was involved from the beginning and really enjoyed and appreciated the amazing family ties described. Nevertheless I found that in the second half the pace of the story slowed down quite a bit and wasn't as captivating but still maintained its interesting and enjoyable aspects.
It's a pity that neither of the Nirvanas could totally capture my enthusiasm for the entire stories however a 9 is well deserved for the beauty of it all and the great acting skills.

I finally managed to watch this drama which I had heard so much about. I was very satisfied with it as the story was interesting and original and the acting was good too. After being away for so long from J dramas it was refreshing to come back to their dry and very essential story telling.

I definitely think she's morally ambigous. Not completely bad and not completely good either. Have you watched…
I agree she is not completely good but I don't think she is morally ambiguous...I somehow think the kiss with the golf player was a goodbye one as she had resisted him before and the blackbox might have a continuation that no one has seen as yet. Both her husband and Myung Woo (her old friend) believe in her because they understood her good intentions.
Yes she is ambitious and self-preserving mostly because she believes in doing her job in an honest way.
In Ep. 7 we see that something really bad happened in her past...I am really starting to doubt about Eun Joo's behaviour, is she only taking revenge on her best friend or is she also the real murderer?

I am watching and loving this show too. As far as the female lead goes I don't believe she's bad but mostly self-centred and I feel that as the story will progress she will slowly change for the better. In my opinion she mostly lies not to hurt others. In any case great drama and wonderful OST.
