I finally managed to watch this drama which I really enjoyed. I was amazed at the beautiful scenes shot in settings such as Las Vegas, South Africa and Jeju and the story was really captivating too. I was also glad to see the younger years of many actors I know from latest dramas and of course Ji Sung showed his great talent at a younger age too. I highly recommend this drama which doesn't seem 8 years old at all. :)
Wow, what a fantastic article!! Thanks so much for writing this as I had no idea that so many dramas that I loved had writer, directors or production teams in common. This is very helpful in keeping an eye out for the future projects of all these combos. :)
This was a good detective story which was produced really well. Up until the very end the viewers are kept totally…
I am not convinced as I believe that he could have carried out his task also if he had been perfectly normal and with his brain intact. For me that part was not necessary for the development of the story. Heroes exist also with totally functioning emotions. :)
This was a good detective story which was produced really well.
Up until the very end the viewers are kept totally in the dark and are just as confused as the detectives and prosecutors who are dealing with the murder/corruption case. Notwithstanding this confusion it was fascinating to watch as a new piece of the puzzle was added at each episode up until the very clearly explained ending.
I appreciated the cast although I have to admit that I didn't understand what the illness of Prosecutor Hwang had to do with the plot besides the fact that he never smiled and was never relaxed. I would have gladly done without that aspect as IMO it didn't add any bonus to the story.
In any case it was a pleasant watch although not mindblowing for me.
Lovely letter, thanks from another co-K-drama fan...for me more than sleep I would need to force myself to go out and walk more...or maybe I should get myself a treadmill and walk/run WHILST watching dramas? LOL!!
May I also suggest the couple Lee Dong Gun and Jo Yoon He who got married and are expecting a child after starring together in The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop. :)
So nice to hear all of these OSTs again...actually N.2 is my favourite of this list although Goblin was my favourite drama of them all and I have the original CD with all of its OSTs. :)
This is my fourth Asadora and I enjoyed it just as much as the other three. There is something so beautiful and poetic about how women's lives are portrayed in these kind of dramas that it's very easy and pleasant to watch such a large number of episodes (which are only 15 minutes long in any case).
I really loved Asa's outgoing and positive personality whilst she faced all the hardships in her life. She was never discouraged and always moved ahead also thanks to the help and support of her loving family and friends.
Also all the other characters in this story were amazing however I will never forget Mr. Godai who was the very first one to believe in Asa's potential as well as her lovely and carefree husband Shinjiro.
I will miss everyone here...this is what is so wonderful about Asadoras which by the end make us feel like part of the family. This is highly recommended and my rating is a well deserved 10.
I can't say this was amongst the best saeguks I have seen until now. I didn't find the story particularly original and for me it was unrealistic that a group of villains could have so much power at that time period.
Some situations were rather exaggerated and I agree with other comments about there being too much crying and overacting in general.
However on the whole I would classify this drama as not bad and watchable. The cast was good, the costumes were great and also the OST was pleasant. Oh and I preferred Kim So Hyun in other dramas as her acting seemed a little stiff here.
I never read the manwa and had no expectations at all for this drama (I was actually not planning to watch it either as I don't enjoy fantasy). However I am glad I gave it a go as I am enjoying it and really like the contrast between the God world and the real world. As long as they keep it well rooted in the real world I will happily carry on watching it. :-)
This drama had started out very well for me but from the second half onwards it became boring and predictable. Somehow I couldn't feel that much chemistry between the OTP and the only parts in which I had fun were the quirky meetings with all the group of lawyers and generally the second characters. Also I wasn't particularly involved in the part regarding the murderer either. It's a pity that this is JCW's last drama before his military service and I hope that when he comes back he will choose more convincing projects like Healer or Empress Ki.
I was in a bad mood because of another drama which ended badly and this drama managed to give me back my smiling face. What I enjoyed most of this story was how realistic and down to earth it all was. For once there was no rich guy/poor girl clichè (well at least not with our OTP and even with the second couple it was not so evident) and it was all about normal people trying to find their right path in life both workwise and lovewise.
The relationship between the four friends was what I enjoyed most and I also really appreciated many of the second characters like the coach and the mom/landlady for example.
It's a drama I will really miss for it's lovely warm atmosphere.
For a long time I had not been upset with Korean writers for spoiling an ending of a perfect drama. For me this drama had been a masterpiece until the last few episodes of the show. And this is not because I wanted a happy ending at all costs but because of all the build up that they put us through for 32 'half' episodes until the writers made us let our guard down sighing of relief at the end only to give us the unexpected final punch in the stomach (what was everyone doing at one point? They all seemed to have lost their wits).
We also had the pleasure of experiencing a tiny troll from the writers at the very end...so as not to miss this lovely experience either!!
After so many years of watching Korean dramas I still haven't learnt my lesson to never let my guard down and to expect tragedy behind the corner at all times. In any case the uncomprehensible ending pulls the rating for me right down...it would have been a 10 for me before the 'monster boy' turn of events.
Lovely article, I am always very happy when I see strong female characters in dramas. Out of the ones you listed I am only watching Lookout and Fight for my way and the leads there are incredibly strong. In the past it was rare to find such determined female characters so I am very thankful that dramas are taking this route and I hope they will continue for a long time.
Here on MDL it states that this drama has 20 episodes and not 30 so which is the right number? Thanks for writing this article in any case as I am really enjoying this drama. The three main actors are doing an awesome job and honestly I am very involved in the story. I really wish it was longer as every week I am really curious as to what will happen next. :)
I only watched Pride and Zenkai Girl out of your main list but for me the best rom-com out of these was Hotaru no Hikari which got me hooked to Jdramas (I also watched From 5 to 9 which was good). I don't know if it could be classified as a rom-com but certainly the Nodame Cantabile series is worth mentioning here and definitely Date which is one of the best Japanese romcoms for me up to now.
Luckily I skipped all the dramas you listed except for City Hunter and Love me if you Dare.
I liked City Hunter a lot at the time but I would probably rate it differently if I watched it now, so for me your opinion is fair and it makes sense. I totally agree with what you wroute about LMIYD.
I had started Love 020 but couldn't go beyond the 5th episode...exactly like you wrote, the leads seemed really stiff.
Thanks for writing this article...I was looking for other Chinese historical dramas to watch as the ones released lately are mostly wuxia/fantasy which I don't enjoy.
I have seen Battle of Changsha and enjoyed it very much. It was the favourite perfomance of Huo Wallace for me too.
Unfortunately I was not too involved in The Vigilantes in Mask which I dropped after the first episodes and I never watched Legend of the Condor Heroes which is the next one I will try. :-)
