Very interesting n engaging. Some shots in this movie are very beautiful n aesthetic. The quality made me think that it was made in 80s, it was that good. A must watch.
It's Based on true incident. It was more of a religious movie than anything. It was way too long, should have been one n a half hour max to cover all the details n psychological elements. Good for a religious movie viewer though.
It's surprising how China even allowed this movie to be shown , they practice very strict censorship on media n control everything.
Very well directed character driven anti-war movie with good cinematography. This movie does not show much larger humanistic perspective n psychological impact of war , it's not much insightful n touched only the surface but the characters n events get really interesting with few dark moments . Very good acting by MC.
I'd like to add Black Comedy tag as well, few scenes were really humourous.
It's a gripping, slow paced, black comedy, mystery movie about the village where everyone seems to be having a secret. Not as edgy as Wrath of Silence but suspenseful plot filled with flashback n how the director ,who was only 30 year old at that time, reveals the secrets layer by layer with such ease n simplicity is amazing. Interesting to see how the series of events improved the strainous relationship between the father n son.
A good message on Solidarity and Group work but that's it. A movie about seven Ronin who decides to help poor villagers, who are not even nice ,act vulnerable n their character is morally grey. The first question occurs here is Why do they accept to help them so easily when they know they aren't going to achieve anything? No good explanation other than "they don't have food" n have their own reasons or doing good deed. These samurai looked like pushover to me few times who decides to help them with good heart, maybe people were just nice in those days .This scene of finding samurai took more than an hour so it should have been properly explored n should have been able to answer the reason which would have made story interesting. The last dialogue really hit me "the victory belongs to these farmers not us"
There was absolutely no action in this, the battle scenes were gorilla war (ambush , sabotage etc)as bandits have upper hand n random killing. The battle scenes n strategies should have been properly executed n shown.I can't complain bcz it's a very old movie to be this technical n proper that's another reason why this dint need this much time length.
The plot is very good but writing n execution r so messy with few sub plots which touched social n moral issues, in a realistic manner i must add bcz i dint feel empathy for any character.I would have liked it if the length was shorter. This wasn't worth my 3 and a half hour.
(The length of the movie is around 3hr 42min ,not what's mentioned here)
At first glance 47 Ronin seems to be very idealistic but it's based on true story of "pure n perfect"revenge.
I couldn't help but compare this movie with Harakiri. There is a very sharp contrast between these two. Harakiri is an anti samurai film where Samurai honor is just a facade but in 47 Ronin ,Samurai Code is the most important n the MC remains true to it.
Masaki San's MC is impulsive, the scenes are explicit, intense ,gripping, dramatic , filled with passionate n loud acting. Whereas Mizoguchi San's MC Oichi is a man of honor n virtue, an idealist type of guy who lives by rules for him n his followers to achieve greatest victory n to gain sympathy from the people but he can take brave action if situation demands, he maintains a good balance.Unlike Harakiri this movie needs patience. Although the characters in both movies dint show how they planned their revenge, despite their nature whether it's impulsive or patient, they both achieved their aim successfully.
Harakiri is too good to be true but plot in 47 Ronin is realistic with all its flaws n shortcomings of situation n people which makes it even more beautiful n relatable. Another difference is i felt deep compassion n empathy for the characters in Harakiri, it is more on humanistic side whereas in 47 Ronin these features are very mild.
Director doesnt show many scenes (m not spoiling) which are generally shown in the movies to gain viewer's attention, it sometimes felt like a documentary where we don't witness anything in reality but only could imagine the incidents through storytelling n gain the perspective as if we are there.
One scene is a repeat, i dont know how they dint notice it during editing. I'd like to add Psychological n Political in its genre . Don't miss out on both the movies.
Story with redemption as objective about a bunch of criminals, who don't hesitate to kill innocent, helping a young guy to save his lover. A bit slow in the beginning n rushed in the second half with few touching incidents. Not as impactful, deep n humanistic as Kobayashi San's other movies.Still it's watchable.
The strength of communication holds the whole movie without much drama in these three simple well crafted stories. Loved the last story, how middle aged women can be mature n playful at the same time regardless of age.
Inspirational, quirky, humorous n heartfelt movie on food especially noodles. This movie consists of a main story along with a series of many short stories which are completely unrelated to each other with food as a main theme. I would categorize this as Omnibus.
Not for everyone, some may find few scenes absurd n gross but if u want a good, something different from the mainstream food movies this is for u.
Plot is an overview of Buddhist funeral rites in Japan by a middle class family. Combined with occasional dark humour n slapstick elements ,this movie takes a quirky, humorous n realistic approach to funeral related events with all tiny details.
Very interesting to see the couple organising funeral for the first time, conflicted n confused about rituals n arrangements . It also portrayed the conflict between traditional n modern practice. Amazing direction n good acting. Must watch movie.
Movie on aggressive, paranoid, hard working , frustrated n nice young guy. Not that extreme like similiar movies i.e,Drudgery Train or Mosquito on 10th Floor but interesting, could have been much better bcz there was good potential ,the plot was repetitive.Still recommended. This guy's notes with flowcharts, diagram, maps , even regular updates is better than my study notes.
Impressive. A very well crafted slow paced movie on how infidelity destroys a family, cause depression, distrust n nervous breakdown even mental illness etc. Although there are many movies on same theme this movie is one of a kind.Use of symbolism, good use of body language n positioning, peculiar acting style, suspenseful music, bleak lighting n detailed description of psychological impact on both the spouse involved r few things that drew me in. Some shots are really beautiful n aesthetic. The ending is upto viewer's imagination but it creeps me out thinking where it might lead after their final dialogue n that pool scene.
The plot is about director in slump n suicidal girl who meet by chance n their journey of depression, craziness, hallucination, coping n healing. There r few sweet n intimate moments, movie was draining but hopeful. Why don't they ever take crazy person to shrink in movies? Lol
I recommend this to someone who likes Dystopian aesthetic art n want to see Iwai Shunji as an actor.Tadanobu Asano would have been a fit choice for this movie, as much as i like Shunji's movies he is terrible as an actor, i don't like the acting but it was watchable.
Avant-garde ,psychological movie inspired by surrealism n symbolism . This very first dialogue by the MC "I have so many ideas that i can't bring together as a coherent whole" is a kind of a hint that movie is going to be wild. The carefree MC comes across many people throughout his journey meeting weird people, exploring his sexuality which he repressed, some scenes were like dream within a dream as to how his thoughts n places where the MC is keep on changing. Sex scenes were not graphic, there was only nudity.
Reminded me of miike's movie Gozu, although Gozu was very detailed ,mysterious n bizarre MC's self discovery , his journey n how he encountered people n the overall absurd plot was pretty much same including the lighting in both the movies which was pleasing to eyes.
As incoherent as the first part, sudden changes in backgrounds n confusing theme filled with riddles. Sometimes it's understandable when the context is kept in mind n sometimes we have no idea what's going on.The movie is not as entertaining like part 1 but the cinematography n art style are much prettier. Love affair , look alike characters, ghost , eroticism are few common themes in both the movies. The movie is about writer who meets a two women n have love affair with them, one of which may or maybe not be the second wife of his patron or maybe she is a ghost ,there are few scenes where he meets a look alike of one of the women n have sex with her. If u are into artistic movies n enjoy riddle solving but in the end get yourself tangled then this one is for u.This is even more difficult to grasp than first one but less haunting.
Love is not a feeling but a verb, romance is not all about being young , beautiful n crazy in love it's about selfless…
The scene when everyone could save the FL but dint step up ,instead they waited for MC to him the news really pissed me off, how can people be so fckng cruel, the husband was saving a life on one hand but on the other hand u fckng killed his wife.
Decent watch but I wanted some comedy which was so little in this movie,m disappointed.
A must watch.

I was bored, this movie dint grab me at all, i have seen better from Kurosawa San n investigation part was alright.
Not that extreme like similiar movies i.e,Drudgery Train or Mosquito on 10th Floor but interesting, could have been much better bcz there was good potential ,the plot was repetitive.Still recommended.
