Ok so I've just watched the first episode. This is also my first historical chinese drama as well. I really want…
Strictly speaking I wouldn't call The Untamed a typical historical drama. It's xianxia which is a genre of Chinese fantasy influenced by Chinese mythology, Taoism, Buddhism, Chinese martial arts and similar. I'm not sure if you'll like it but to me (and I love historical dramas) it was better than any historical drama I've ever watched.
Actually. looking at your stats/tags I think you may like it. Smart male lead, bromance ('censored romance'), death, hidden identity, tragic past, character development, misunderstanding, childhood friends, happy ending etc. are all tags that could be applied here. The reasons why I loved it are: interesting storyline (once it all starts coming together), beautiful and complex relationships between different characters, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! (with 50 episodes they really had the time to explore this aspect), it's pretty angsty (I like angst) but the ending is super satisfying, also beautiful OST and costumes.
I had the similar impression after watching the first episode. I was confused and thought the CGI was super cringe, however, it's completely fine to be confused after the first two episodes. We're NOT supposed to know what's happening. Only after you finish most of the drama (if you do) you'll actually understand what those first two episodes are about. Also, if you continue watching, once you get to the flashback (episode 3) don't be impatient and consider it as an integral part of the storyline. Once the flashback ends you'll understand the first two episode.
As for the CGI, there won't be too many cringe CGI parts. There will be a few more times some bigger CGI 'monster' appears and you'll have to bear with it, but compared to everything else that's good it won't be too important (at least it wasn't to me).
Anyway, this was a long answer (sorry XD). I hope you give it a chance, continue watching and hopefully you'll end up loving it as well :D
I have a question for people who finished watching this drama. Do they later explain why those women in ep. 11 or 12 when Ji Chong first appeared and we saw him with children were rude to him? Those children absolutely adored him but all adults ignored him which was kind of weird. I just want to know whether they'll explain what that whole thing was about? (if yes pls don't explain it to me XD)
Tbh, if you ignore the original source material [novel "Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation"] which is BL you can view their relationship in this drama as a strong bromance. There are no explicit scenes in it, everything is pretty much platonic. Beautiful portrayal of their bond and friendship is only one of the many reasons why this show is popular.
As for the second question, not really. I'm not a big fan of romance genre in general. This drama has some of my favourite female characters but romance has nothing to do with it. I just like them for them.
If you decide to check it out there is a good chance you'll end up liking it (statistically speaking ) :D
AvenueX YouTube channel of reviews is boycotting XZ.
I watched only one of her videos when Heroes in Harm's Way came out and her attitude really rubbed me the wrong way so I made sure not to watch her anymore. She can boycott him for all I care, no harm there.
Is this drama good guys? I mean Ive watched up to ep7 but idk.....i waited for this drama for so long and had…
I guess different people would give different answers, it depends on what you like. I watched 14 episodes so far and I think it's good. Things are finally starting to get interesting with the appearance of Ji Chong , certain characters are also showing their true colors and all in all it feels like the plot is finally moving forward. If I were you I would watch a few more episodes and decide then. [I did like the beginning and the relationship between ML and FL as well so we may just have a different taste]
MDL rolled out a new algorithm to remove fake accounts created to manipulate ratings. https://kisskh.at/discussions/support/49893-release-notes?pid=1410725&page=1#p1410725
Well, I have nothing against people dropping dramas and giving them low ratings, however, watching one episode and rating the whole drama 1 is just unreasonable. 1/5 is not much. It's like 3-4 episodes of a 16 ep. show. One of my first k-dramas was The Royal Gambler and I absolutely hated the first 2-3 episodes but I forced myself to continue watching and in the end it turned out to be quite enjoyable. I'm not saying people should force themselves to watch something they don't like, but I'm glad ratings of those who didn't even give some shows a chance won't be counted. You can drop something after 1-2 episodes and not rate it.
I agree with you about the rating system being flawed tho. It's impossible for everyone to be satisfied with it. Personally, when I search for something to watch I don't look at ratings but at the genre/plot/actors/comments and in most cases end up watching things that are enjoyable to me.

I actually like this change. I've seen plenty of people watch 1 or 2 episodes then drop the drama and give it 1-2. How are you rating something that you haven't even bothered to watch? It just doesn't make sense, at all. 1/5 sounds reasonable and counts ratings from those who at least gave it a chance before deciding it's rubbish and dropping.
Which one got the boost? From what I've seen they all dropped or stayed the same, most of them by 0.1-0.2. Either…
Well, to be honest I don't know what's happening with The Wolf either. Most people still haven't completed and rated it so I would wait until we have more data. Talking about Xiao Zhan and his works that are affected - f.ex. short film Buying Ears was rated by 70 people and according to MDL 93% of those ratings are 8-10 but average rating is 7.6 (it dropped from 9.5). I'm not saying MDL is targeting his works (lol) but I don't really understand how those algorithms work after this change.
There are probably some people who are making fake accounts to either boost or lower the ratings so I hope these new changes will make things better. As far as I'm concerned average of 9.5 from people who completed and 4.75 from people who dropped it after few episodes says enough [and that's after the change].
Die hard fans are manipulating the ratings by making a bunch of accounts rating this 10 and rating everything…
Which one got the boost? From what I've seen they all dropped or stayed the same, most of them by 0.1-0.2. Either way, fake ratings/accounts should be deleted. Ratings from those who didn't even complete the shows should be counted less imo but that's a whole other story.
Stop ruining a good drama out of envy. I am sure youhaven't evenwatchedthewhole thing justsnippetsenough for you…
I actually agree with you when it comes to the ML and can understand your point of view seeing how you watched only 14/46 episodes, but in my opinion the best part of this show comes in the last 15 or so episodes. Not trying to tell you to give it another shot or anything, just saying there is actually a good reason for a high rating it has. But yeah, I agree that ML's hypocrisy is unbearably annoying.
Throughout the show I couldn't really decide whether I liked the ML or not. Even though he had some good moments most of the time I found him annoying and less interesting than the rest of the supporting characters, but in the end he won me over. The beginning was a bit slow and draggy, but the second part of the show (especially after they leave the capital) is amazing. It kept me on my toes until the end and that last episode completely blew me away. I didn't plan on giving it 10/10 but I have no other choice after that.
I really hope they keep the same cast for the second season. I originally came for Xiao Zhan but the whole supporting cast is outstanding.
People who don't want to see any spoilers should just stop visiting this page, for real. It's insane how many inconsiderate people there are (╬ಠ益ಠ). Do yourself a favor and stop checking this comment section.

Yeah, it was before The Untamed. It's one of his first roles.
