I went through almost all of 2021 without really hatewatching a standard length drama. I tried with "Police University"…
Police University was surprisingly bland. I dropped it rather quickly too.
I like how Poia subbed it up in a comment below, how it's fun to dissect a drama - why exactly it is such a failure for us.

I've been waiting for this article, it was fun responding to all this questions and it's come out really well…

Yeah but it does not add up with all the research that he did. That's my whole point. To learn how to mimic emotions and read it from other people, he must have research what they are, how the express in the body etc. With how "smart" he was suppose to be, it made no sense he did not connect:" ah yes, everything I am experiencing perfectly matches what I am reading right now, maybe there is something into it.

Not to mention, recent studies show that psychopaths can actually emphasize with people, they just don't do it spontaneously as an uncontrol reaction. They are actually great at reading people, and they don't need to excessively study human behavior like that. Everything they showed him "learning" and "studying" fitted ASD far more.

Again, it would be a completely different story if they did not make us believe he studied all these things. If you have no knowledge, you won't connect dots, you won't think there is something wrong. But he did. And again, his training completely did not match something that psychopath would even have to do. It's far closer to something ASD deals with.

Oh there are quite a numer of Thai shows that make my blood boil. Especially in the BL genre 🤣

First of all, you CANNOT teach yourself to not feel emotions. At some point he should have figure out that whatever is going on, he does feel something and it should be enough to get new diagnosed. They made him seem to have IQ below the average, when he is completely incapable for self-reflection and introspection. But that went against all the other aspects of his functioning - aka they showed him to be really smart. It's ridiculous that one diagnosis led to all that. It would be a completely different story if he was locked in a hospital all these years, and only when the drama started, he was able to leave and start experiencing outside world. Lack of variety of emotional stimuli in the hospital would explain his behavior, while new environment would slowly showcase that maybe the initial diagnosis was not correct.

They literally showed us he has a lot of knowledge about psychopathy if he decided to train himself to mimic emotional responses and read emotions of others, so how could have know a lot about the disorder while also being completely blind to the fact his symptoms do not line up with most of diagnostic criteria 🤣

Like, this is a serious version of Psychopath Diary, but in the psychopath diary it was all dark comedy so I could laugh about.

Flower of Evil had one of the pet peeves of mine: the skills the characters had did not match at all with how the plot was going. And it completely ruined the realism of the show for me. + I was annoyed with how ridiculous they dealt with his misdiagnosis etc. Psychology is a touchy subject for me 🤣

As for Nirvana - I often call it podcast, coz they for good 80% of the plot showed us characters talking about the events, and rarely showed the events. If I only get to read in subs about the plot, I can as well just read a book. So yeah, I disliked the type of directing. I also REALLY disliked Chang Su, so I kind of wanted him to fail. He was too perfect in the most unrealistic way. There were no stakes coz he was always 1000 steps ahead of everyone and had a backup plan for his backup plans.

I loved some mainstream shows that other liked a lot, but I also disliked many (Flower of Evil, Nirvana in Fire, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, being some of the examples). Different people different preferences. Sometimes a show is not truly that bad, but it has few elements that I myself strong dislike. Sometimes I saw ignore the flaws, that others just hate with the passion 🤣

I don't often hate watch myself, but when I do, it's a whole entertaining ride.

Thanks for the article :)! I can honestly say that I can relate a lot to this as I’m often accused of “ hate-watching”…
Guilty Pleasure - Appreciating the Bad.
Hope-Watching - Wishing for Miracle.

These two would not be a bad idea. I think Hope-Watching could be hard to write, since this term does not REALLY exist as a mainstream thing. I truly only ever saw it in that one article, but I felt like it does corresponds well with many people's experiences. But yeah, damn not a bad idea. Went and claimed both on forum 🤣

Thank you for the motivation to write them 😊

Give me reccs please :") I am a professional hate watcher lol
one show that is truly perfect for a hate watch is Well-Intended Love. The bullshit that happens there is something no one can truly predict hahahah

Another great article! Could you give us a few examples of dramas you hate watched? Or should I just go through…
Bloody Romance is a perfect example. Well-Intended Love too (enjoyed this hate watch far more than Bloody Romance).
I would also count Tonhon Chonlatee as hate watch. These are the "top" 3 from this year. To be honest, I don't hate watch often. I mostly just drop the dramas I dislike, so it has to be a special type of a show for me to finish it even tho I dislike it 🤣

I mostly drop shows I don't like (even few minutes in episode 1), but sometimes for some strange reason I do end up hate watching a show till the end. And usually the ranting and joking around with friends about it makes the experience fun :)

When I first started watching dramas I did not even think about dropping coz everything was like a new fresh amazing toy 🤣

This article should be pinned at each comment section! Pointing out flaws of a drama doesn’t mean hate watching.…
I know right.
To be honest, me ranting about drama has nothing to do with how much I enjoy it. I just like analysing things. So I will rant about dumb stuff if a drama I am going to rate 10, and a drama I will rate 2 🤣
