Yes, but even skinship aside, we never even saw them officially date and be happy with each other. They were just miserable until the very end. I need to see them happy together for a couple of eps for all the misery and slow buildup to be worth it.
Yeah, but that wasn't enough for me. Just KNOWING it's a happy ending doesn't cut it for me. I like melo, but there needs to be enough happy and sweet scenes afterward to make up for the angst and sadness we had to endure.
Wasn't for me. I don't mind slow burn romances or melodrama, but it doesn't work for me if all that slow build up barely results in anything. Did not really even get to see the leads happy together and the ending was a let down.
Its crazy how this show got 8.2 when alot of other crappy shows get much higherI will always disregard those romance…
Haha actually, the complaints I saw about this show were people complaining about WHY there was romance it this show at all, claiming it is unnatural/unnecessary, etc. But IMO the amount of romance was not even that much and was just the right amount. I never felt like the romance ever overshadowed the main plot or anything, and it's not like there were romantic scenes in every single episode, nor did they ever take up most of the screen time in an ep. I don't think the story would've worked out without the romance plot either, so it definitely WAS necessary. Plus, it's just so normal that a male and female would fall for each other on a life and death adventure. I actually see people often complaining that there shouldn't be romance in thrillers/suspense/adventure dramas, but for me, the best is when there is just the right balance opposed to absolute ZERO romance.
This was overall an excellent drama in my books. Such a good balance of adventure, thrill, and romance. Not romance centric (IDK why some netizens were complaining about the romance... there was definitely not an overwhelming amount), but exactly the right amount within all the adventure. I love that. I do agree the ending was not very strong, but I'm satisfied. I think the drama suffered a lot in terms of censorship (some horror elements I think?), so they were also forced to delete a lot of content. Bai Yu and Ni Ni had such great chemistry! I would looove to see them collaborate again.
P.S. Bonus: They got real kiss scenes in this drama!!!
All I can say is Xu Kai needs to start learning to pick some better dramas... I like him so much, but... seriously, all his recent dramas are so average...
Overall very average drama. Way too draggy for the first half of the show, especially with the FL's weak and indecisive…
The overall writing and delivery of the show was very lacking in terms of the main leads' love story. The FL basically just shows up and asks the ML to get back with her, yet she can't bring herself to go against her mom and can't make up her mind to ACTUALLY get back with the ML. This crap goes on for 20+ episodes. That's a very unlikable personality, and we really didn't need to see that for 20 episodes. If it was just like 10 episodes or something, then it would probably be tolerable, but 20+??? At that point, I was already sick and tired of it and really did not give a damn whether the leads get together or not. The drama needed to show us more of the foundation of the leads' previous relationship for us to actually care and FEEL why they love each other and can't let go. The drama really failed at making me care about the leads' relationship. I was so tempted to drop the show at the halfway mark, but I pushed through and finished using the 2.0x speed button.
As for Yan Chen and Ye Zi, my god. Why anyone would root for them till the end beats me. I never liked Ye Zi's character to begin with, as it was pretty clear she was an opportunist that's after him cuz he's rich. Never mind that though, there are tons of girls like that. Nothing wrong with wanting to go after a guy with the qualities you want. But the fact that she resorted to framing him for sexual assault just because she couldn't get what she wanted and got exposed??? Ok clearly there is something wrong with this girl and pretty much confirms the fakey vibes she was giving us throughout the show. Kudos to the girl's acting though, cuz she really gave off the subtle whole golddigger vibe pretty well.
Episode 34-35 was such a tearjerker!!! Poor Da Peng :'((( He was so young and bright, and things were just going on track for him :'( I couldn't stop sobbing during the scenes where he was being remembered :'(
Overall very average drama. Way too draggy for the first half of the show, especially with the FL's weak and indecisive personality. In real life, I would tell the ML to give up on someone like her cuz it's like he's just being played with. Also, can't believe there are comments here who rooted for Yan Chen and Ye Zi :S How can anyone wish for them to end up together, especially after what happened near the end???
The firefighting and rescue scenes weren't bad though. I at least liked watching those.
I put this off for a while because I saw some negative reviews on this. I get the criticism now. Most of the residents in the damn building are so effing stupid I can't even.... Just pisses me off so badly
I guess I'm the only one who loved this. After watching soooo many dramas over all these years, sometimes it's these kind of cliche fluffy dramas that I miss from back in the old days. But I definitely do get the criticism. Plot-wise, it's definitely nothing special at all and pretty flat in terms of the conflicts/business aspect, and many of the back stories/side stories were not fleshed out enough at all. It was basically a drama about the two leads falling in love, with the FL passionate about her job and the ML trying to change the terrible management style in his family's hotel. Nothing special, no real business wars, no climaxes, no real big challenges to overcome. I do appreciate how this drama tried to convey the concept of employee value, especially when a customer service-oriented business relies on frontline workers for success. At least this drama had some messages to convey. I work in a customer service-oriented field with toxic management, so this really hit home, and it's an important message to deliver, especially in South Korea, I'm sure. Yes, the story was flat, but sometimes sweet and simple is just what we need. Just a light watch and a ton of fluff. The chemistry and romance were enough for me. It's so hard to find a sweet romance with good kiss scenes nowadays (especially since I've been watching more Cdramas in recent years), but this is exactly what I want!!!! Sometimes, I just want fluff and eye candy, and that's enough. A smooth relationship with no breakups or angst can be satisfying, especially if you've watched too many blood-boiling dramas. So I appreciate the existence of these kinds of drama for when we want to just turn off our brains and squeal with delight at a gorgeous OTP. At the end of the day, how good a drama is depends how much pleasure and enjoyment it gave you. Watching the leads' romance made me happy, so it was an enjoyable drama for me. Dramas don't always have to have a deep story for it to be enjoyable. It's prob gonna take me some time to be able to watch Yoona and Junho pair up with other people now T___T They are too perfect together omggggg <3
". We want sweet scenes but not a drama full of them. "I respectfully disagree with this. The problem here is…
For me, I don't think it's that the sweet scenes are bland, but it's because other than the couple's romance, there was barely any other story going on in this one. I WANT dramas bombarded with sweet scenes, but there needs to be other interesting side stories going on. You Are My Glory was definitely fluff-filled, but there was definitely more going on other than the couple's life. Go Go Squid 2 was sweet but also had a huge focus on robot combat. But for Road Home, after they got back together, I felt like I was just peeping into a couple's regular life. They showed scenes of the main leads' work and stuff, but there wasn't much focus or development of story. There were no big conflicts, no changes. They tried to have some action revolving the police unit, but it seemed like they were just giving us an info session on how dangerous it can be. Those scenes really seemed like they were just there to show that the leads go to work lmao. I feel like even if, for example, the You Are My Glory couple (which I adored), were in this drama, it would've probably been the same for me.
Overall, it's not bad, but I have to agree with most of the critical comments - the pacing is honestly kinda slow. The main CP's scenes are quite sweet and you can really feel the love between them and how much they treasure their love after losing 10 years' time. Their scenes weren't necessary hot and steamy, but they were very very realistic and sweet. The actors did a great jjob in showing the affection of a couple who gained back what they thought they lost forever.
However, the overall story of this drama is just really flat. It's basically just watching first loves get back together and have their happy ending. That's it. There's barely any other story to it. They try to add scenes of the special policing unit for a little excitement, but it's like it's just thrown in there... I just felt like I was watching a couple's life and that was it. The couple was sweet, but then you kind of just start getting bored... Some people criticized Seven and Jing Boran's lack of chemistry, but for me, rather than an issue with the chemistry, I felt it was just the overall story that kind of ruined it. I think if they were swapped out for other pairings I loved, it still wouldn't change the overall enjoyment of this drama. I also felt there were many unnecessary long stares between the couple... It was almost like watching a super long music video. I can imagine they really did try to stick close to the novel... cuz I can imagine all the novel narration during all those long stares they shared lol... Anyhow, I still do recommend this for anyone who wants to watch a successful first love reunion romance. It is very sweet and touching for first loves to have such a dear relationship. It is very realistic, as some have said. It's heartwarming for anyone who wants to see this type of first love story.
It's very realistic as many people who went through what Ling Xiao had gone or even 2nd brother ... very very…
Yes, very realistic. Even the mom became like that because of her own trauma and upbringing. This drama really explores family relationships and how the environment you grow up in shapes you
IDK why people are so pessimistic about this airing... The people with "scandals" are not even the main leads, and most importantly, this world is so effing forgiving about male celebrities cheating. Literally all of them come back with no problems at all 🙄Don't worry people, this will air at some point
I actually see people often complaining that there shouldn't be romance in thrillers/suspense/adventure dramas, but for me, the best is when there is just the right balance opposed to absolute ZERO romance.
