That would be such a spectacular pairing! I just checked LYF’s page and it seems another project she will be…
This is my first time seeing LYF, but she is an amazing actress and truly only talented actors (regardless of age/experience) should be paired with her. If I had to add someone (I know I do not) to a list of talented actors in their 20s, I would suggest Zhang Xin Cheng.
Exactly! They sure can speak with their eyes. I don’t remember the last time I watched a drama with such intense…
I cannot recall one either, especially one that also has a complicated and nuanced side to it as well. Most drama couples can do the passionate "I like you, I like you too, let's kiss", or "shooting lasers at each other", but Zhao Pan Er and Gu Qian Fan seem to carry on private conversations regardless of what they are actually saying.
I am on episode 9, and it is really good. The chemistry all around is really good, and the way the leads speak to each other with their eyes is probably the best example I have seen. No "cue the music", camera pans, closeups, or slow mo needed. I am enjoying the focus on the characters. I will not fool myself into thinking once the royal/imperial/palace drama picks up, that it will be angst/drag-free. I hope that the chemistry of the mains will remain the main focus of the drama.
It is worth watching. I think Chinese dramas in general are not rated as highly as Korean dramas in general. There…
The longer fantasy/martial arts/romance dramas are usually worse in terms of how they treat the main couple, but Legend of Fei was an exception. They had their moments, but it was more of an unspoken love (that grew) between them from what I remember. It was pretty good, maybe a bit longer than I like, but very watchable.

I never claimed that 24 episodes was a problem. I was saying if you are a fan of them, then you will probably like this drama. For dramas like this one, if you know, then you know. If not, you will probably find it odd. I prefer Chinese romantic comedies over Korean romantic comedies because there seems to be more romance and comedy to the point of improbability, while Korean rom-coms can be more grounded with slice of life.
Some short dramas are good and some (okay, most) not so good. This one is pretty good. Every actress is unique, but I think the FL looks like Wan Peng.
How could another actor have elevated the role of KHW? I quickly browsed through the comments and saw no mention…
That makes more sense than your original statement. I think some who read your original statement were confused about the "but he also can't elevate it," and took it as a backhanded compliment towards the actor. It makes sense that you might want to see another actor as the ML, but this is only the second drama I have seen him in (the other being Lawless Lawyer), so he is still new to me. I think the fact that the romance in this drama is subtle would make it easier to bring an upcoming actor who did not have to worry about chemistry with a FL as much. Just between you and me (not really since the comment is public), I would like to have seen this drama drop a ML (or have it supporting) and have the females (maybe add an actress with fighting or martial arts experience) share the main role to bring Cho Tae Seo down. That is nothing against the writers or ML, but the actresses shined in their limited roles and I wanted more.
They should make a movie about the gang's trip to Bali, and have it Hangover style (think blackouts, international crime ring, wild romance, stuff like that) where he has to go back to the beginning of the trip to find out where it all went wrong to save his relationship and possibly the fate of the free world. Again My Life: Re-Vacation or some clever/catchy title like that.
I've said before that Lee Joon Gi shouldn't be casted as KHW. And I stand by it. Not because he did a bad job.…
How could another actor have elevated the role of KHW? I quickly browsed through the comments and saw no mention of his acting being a weak point. Is there a specific example of how his role could have been elevated outside of a taller actor?
The ending is ok for a drama as a standalone. We have confirmation that the vilain and hero have the same objectives,…
I suppose they had the same objectives if their objective was to do what they wanted. By that reasoning everyone has the same objective. Two people can be the same since they both are given a life, but how you live that life is what defines you. Cho Tae Seob was the epitome of greed because he wanted it all, and somehow convinced himself that he was the only one able to wield such power. He fancied himself a god, but is simply a man. He would talk faux-noble, but never acted in such a way. The villain introduced at the very end seemed to view CTS as a crackpot, yet still has his greed, and foolishly enough, surrounded herself with his minions.
I really do not understand why Korean dramas find it hard to produce a complete drama. I know most are 16 episodes, you know most are, writers know they are, directors know they are and there is plenty of viewing research (dramas) available. Too often we get 12 episodes stretched to 15 and 4 compressed into 1. Or we get a 24 episode drama that tried to fit in to a 16 episode pair of pants. Over time I have been inoculated by these dramas to such an extent that I no longer am surprised by my disappointment.
I thought that was also a strong scene, but for a different reason. It seemed to be the moment he realized that he was no longer a god, or perhaps realized he never was one to begin with. He plotted to control everyone else with their weakness, and only became agitated when they were taken down. When one of his puppets was destroyed and the other one cut their strings, the facade that if he could control one, then he eventually could control all was destroyed. He may have not been heartless, but his heart only beat for himself. Of course, most creative works are up for personal interpretation. Does the lens with which we view the world say more about the world, or more about ourselves?
I thought the drama was pretty good and finished up in a way only these kind of complicated revenge political dramas can (given 16 episodes). I do think that the recently finished Military Prosecutor Doberman managed to do it better, although they stuck to mainly legal tactics while Again My Life used more action. Sometimes it was difficult to reconcile the active hero with the somewhat passive villain. I am glad that they chose to avoid answering difficult questions rather than giving bad answers. I think the ending, rather than providing a way for a second season, was meant to symbolize the never-ending battle of good versus evil. I was also glad to see them acknowledge the romantic feelings that some did not see, but I clearly did. The female characters were well written and portrayed. A credit to the actresses who were able to breathe life into the characters that did not always have a lot of screen time, but made the most of it when they did.
soooo JSK will be CTS's puppet so he could spy on him and bring him down or is it another way around ?? 😐😐😐
I think if anyone close was to betray Kim Hee Woo, it would be game over. KHW is able to do things because he stays under the radar, and Cho Tae Seob does not know how much of a threat KHW is.
After Zhou Lian's death midway, I am having a hard time pressing forward. Her character was like sunshine for this somewhat dreary drama. And not just because Ning Xin is beautiful. I thought she had the potential to be a really dynamic character.
I'm waiting for ep15, all i can say is if you expect this or watch this for the romance then it might not be for…
There are sprinkles of romance thrown in to round out the story. Obviously judging by the comments, it is so little that some cannot even tell it is there. I think if you are expecting a romance anywhere near the level of a romantic comedy, you would be disappointed. There is more romance in the first episode of a romantic comedy than there has been in 14 episodes here.
The irony of a double post complaining about the same thing in every episode is fitting.
I know. It is why I refresh the page after I comment so that I can delete a possible double post because it looks odd. i just found humor in the idea that someone would complain about too much of the same thing and it ends up being double posted like too much of the same thing.
The villain here is a terrible human being who has planned, threatened, enabled, and enacted harm towards others…
I know the Grim Reaper said he would have to become a bigger monster to get CTS, but it seems like KHW is actually a better person. We do not have a lot of information about his life before, but seemed more serious before and more relaxed now (probably the presence of his family). I am not sure he has done anything terrible, and no one seems to be aware to be scared of him yet. That may change as we get nearer to the end of the drama. I imagine they are going to have to squeeze a lot of things into the last few episodes.
If you know, you know. (That rhymed.)
