I do not know if it is the thing I dislike the most about Chinese dramas, but I get aggravated by the unhealthy standards when it comes to beauty, but only will mention weight today. I have seen many dramas, and a vast majority of the time, the FL is very thin. And while that may be sending the wrong message to young Chinese girls and women, I find a related issue just as troublesome. It is when there is a friend of a main lead who is thin, but is either called chubby or fat, or even refers to herself as chubby or fat. I really do not like it. I suspect that is an issue for society in general seeing as people gravitate towards traits they find desirable, but dramas could at least make an effort to make small changes.

She does care about LXZ. She even seems to really care about GX as well. She seems to be a knowledgeable business…
For lovers of XZ, this is probably gif heaven for fan profiles. lol

I agree that a drama, even for those romance lovers who disdain anything happening to the OTP, needs friction in some shape or form. Otherwise, it is like dramas are throwing happiness in our faces. Nothing wrong with happiness, per se, but part of me would feel a bit offended that a whole chain of people from writer to executives to cast and crew thought that was all I was capable of watching. Even cartoons are more than that.

This drama keeps it really mild. A bit odd at times, but probably something that hits the spot during these troubled times. Misunderstanding are resolved pretty quickly here. I do have things that bother me, but San San is not that bad to me. I do think that I have read so many comments about her, that I see the possible annoyance in her every word and action. She is not malicious, so I cut her some slack. I think the actress really stands out in her scenes.

I think the whole Rebel Princess series is on YouTube.

Speaking of minimizing the second couple. Why does it seem like some characters have fallen into a hole? Gao Xi, Shao Jiang, and LZX parents seem to have disappeared. I know the first two have reasons. That is unusual for most dramas where everyone kind of hangs around throughout the drama. I am not really complaining too much because the selling point of the drama is the main couple.
I really do not want to get political, but yeah, Chinese dramas have to go through a lot. I will say that if you watch Chinese dramas, 95% of it could be dramas from anywhere else. All the same emotions, hopes, dreams, desires, events, and relationships you might have with people you know are reflected in those dramas. Maybe one day a drama can air right after it is completed, and backlogs of dramas could be accessible too.

I can’t get my head around the fact they waste time on banning topics like time travel. Some bns, albeit stupid,…
They are going to feel real silly when someone climbs into their time machine with copies of these dramas so they can edit and air these dramas before the ban goes into effect.

I am not trying to say that fans cannot feel or think what they want. I was really noticing (thinly veiled complaining) that a lot of the comments suggested the rough ride the main couple was experiencing trying to get together was a lot worse than it turned out to be from the view of someone who is not really a diehard fan of XZ.

Almost every complaint I would have about this drama could really be applied to any romantic based drama. The drama is pretty good, and has managed to avoid the tropes that would make me downgrade my opinion of it. Ones like evil love rivals, narrow-minded dominating parents, and unbelievable misunderstandings to name a few.

For this drama, I really do not even think about their age. I think The Rebel Princess (for which I have not seen) has the FL playing a teenage character when she is slightly older.
There is rarely going to be a drama that checks all the boxes and is perfect in every aspect. This drama is no exception. I like the fact that the main couple here has been very nice to each other and their story is sweet. I want to see what happens next.

I caught up to episode 18 and fans of Xiao Zhan really take everything that happens around him to extremes. The misunderstandings, angst, hiccups, or whatever you want to call it were extremely mild for the couple. I do not think that this is some sort of fan service drama where the whole point of it is for fans to make gifs and videos to share with each other, but XZ fans (yes, I know you are one) must be eating this up.

I think part of the reason why I do not see an age gap as well is that she never really does school stuff. She plays with the school orchestra and spends time with her friends, but nothing like the usual school dramas you see. I think for XZ, just the fact that he seems to be loosening up makes him seem younger. Being happy is a youth serum. For Yang Zi, if you tell me she is a graduate student in her mid to late 20s, I can believe that, but she has been acting for so long that she has this aura of professionalism that does not mesh with a youthful early 20s type of character. She is by no means the first, nor will be the last older actor/actress to play a younger role, so it is not a criticism, but more of a matter of fact. Especially, if any drama wants to play up an age gap.

Got it. Thanks. Not sure how the drama will explain it, but experimental drug is just about a good reason as any. It explains why she was unable to change the big events, but seemed to be able to change the little ones, and had knowledge of events that she was not firsthand witness to.
Just from those two chapters, the web novel seems more "intense" than the drama portrays the main couple.

Is the whole drama her dream? We see other things that happen when she is not present, so does she see those too? Or is that just creative freedom by the writer for the purpose of filling in the blanks for the viewers?

It did seem like every time either the viewer would forget about Li Chong Wen or she made it crystal clear he had no chance, she would do something that would have them meet again, or say something that would make him feel like she was the only one who understood him. She tried way too hard to be guarded while saying and doing certain things in her dream. It then backfired because it was not in her nature to say or do those things. I do think it is hard to blame her because if I had gone back in time ten years, I might have over-corrected mistakes and people in the past would get no benefit of the doubt because there would seem to be no room for doubt.
She should have just quit school, bought stock and other investments, and became a billionaire.

I wonder what the web novel take on this part of the story is. I tend to agree that the main couple had this noble idea about helping others, and then she took an offer as an intern. He did seem to indicate that he signed her up, and maybe getting the higher score on the test made it seem like she had to take it. She had spent ten years in a large firm, so why did she seem so shocked by the way they did their business? I get that they might have wanted to put Li Chong Wen back in her life, but it all seemed a bit confusing. Maybe she is starting to wake up, and things are getting scrambled in dream land. I thought they could have had her pass the judicial examination and wake up without need for her to take a job in her dream.

He is famous, but I think there is gap between the two MLs as far as followers across social media.

I think this is a romantic comedy drama. Not really enough of fantasy, law, or melodrama to make it worth mentioning. Any fan of the web novel, cast, or romantic comedies in general should give it a try. The drama is free to watch subbed on YouTube, which is pretty rare for a drama currently airing. It is also streaming on multiple platforms, so finding it to watch is not a problem.

I really do not place much emphasis on ratings or reviews unless it is from a person who seems to view dramas with the same lens as me. I only use it when I have a few dramas I am interested in, and need a tie-breaker on which to start. I will go with the higher rated one.

Your profile name clued me into your appreciation for anime.

I think (hope) this drama is better than the "too young/too old" forced separation. If necessary, there are much better reasons like self-enrichment or chasing dreams. Probably the only time I notice the age difference is when they make jokes about it that seem to fall flat. Maybe Yang Zi looks older, maybe Xiao Zhan looks younger, or probably a bit of both really have me struggling to remember they are supposed to have an age gap. Their maturity in life and love is all over the place in the drama, which makes it less likely to notice a difference.

For my dramas, I prefer 75% fluff, 20% comedy, 10% slice of life, and 5% minor bumps/hiccups. Yes, I want my drama to give 110%!

There is an article about the drama on the site here, so maybe that will generate some interest as far as getting MDL users to watch Legally Romance and rate it. The Oath of Love has two of China's biggest stars, so it makes sense that the drama is heavily promoted.

I think she is starting to wake up from the coma (dream). By all indications, I think tomorrow's episodes (23-24) will be when she wakes up. This is a Thursday-Friday-Saturday drama, so I hope that they do not leave us on too dramatic of a cliffhanger with a five day wait.

At least this drama is airing daily (or close enough to it), so the story is always moving versus having to wait 5 days after a heartbreaking episode or right before the first kiss. Four episodes for a two day drama might be two weeks, and here it is just a long weekend.

I have seen enough dramas to know this one is ripe for a separation in the last few episodes. He is a doctor, so any kind of training or teaching assignment could happen. She is a music student, so studying abroad or traveling with an orchestra could happen too. Or a breakup because one does not want to hold the other back. I hope it does not happen because I prefer my romance based dramas on the mild side. I like to enjoy a drama as it unfolds, but there is always a part of me trying to figure out where the story is going to go.

Can someone give me a quick heads up on why has the ratings dropped? Is it bad? (Without spoilers please cause…
It is probably math related. There are only ratings from 351 users so far, and that does not seem like a lot. The Oath of Love (currently airing) has over 1100 ratings from users. So more ratings for this drama make more of a difference than for TOoL. Of course there are people that are waiting for it to finish airing before rating it, and more waiting for it to finish to start watching it. There are probably also users out there that think there is only room for one drama at the top so if their favorite drama gets a 10, all others get a 1 because that is what they think others do too.

I think the drama is pretty good. Each episode is only around 45 minutes, but you might want to watch a few before making a decision about not watching it. The first episode sets the stage for the actual story itself.

It is actually just a dream and not time travel, but she does not know that. Even though she seems to have some leeway to make changes, I suspect that her brain has certain events that are hardwired to happen because they were such strong, emotional memories (Father dying, brother getting injured).

Trying to turn this drama into the usual drama fare by adding to its length seems like it would do more harm than good, and a lot easier said than done. Rather than making a sequel, I hope Netflix and Korean drama entertainment companies take note of what was successful here and apply it to future dramas that they cooperate on.

Pretty good 24 episode Chinese romantic comedy. Good chemistry among the leads and the rest of the cast, and mild mannered love rivals who were not really rivals. If I had to point out some things I did not like, I would say the way the height difference between the leads was used seemed uncomfortable at times. I also think either Ling Wei was miscast or had a poor makeup and style team because she did not come across as the campus beauty that everyone seemed to make her out to be.

I am not a sculpture major or have taken any classes for it. It did seem weird that they were working on the same works (heads) the entire time. The same material too (clay).

I think if viewers are fans of the main couple (which I suspect a vast majority are just from reading comments here), they must be glad that this is the second couple. There are quite a few of these dramas where the mains are the ones playing cat and mouse games Admittedly, the main are having their problems getting together, but there is a more serious, if not mature tone to it.

I have been a bit slow to catch up to the new episodes (still on 12) because I can see that both couples are having issues at the same time. My preference is that if there is more than one couple, that when one is shaky, the other is solid so that one can support the other.
Maybe with the exception of noble idiocy, having a drama clearly establish that two people like/care/love each other only to keep them apart for somewhat odd reasons is the most aggravating part of romantic dramas. This is usually my ripping off the Band-Aid part of the drama.
