The girl who kills herself in the trailer Jui, she had asked Big Jane for a favor but when it was time for her to return the favor she stepped back so to punish her, Big Jane handed her over to her abusive ex-boyfriend. I don't remember what happened to her later, I think that was the last time we saw her in the novel. I also don't think it was mentioned what exactly was the favor she asked for from Big Jane. But this incident was a turning point in the Janes' relationship because this was the first time Little Jane discretely got a glimpse of just how ruthless Big Jane is.The girl best friend Nankhing felt really bad about not realizing it earlier that Big Jane and Little Jane liked each other, she never would've asked him to hand over her gift had she known.

Big Jane is manipulative, abusive, aggressive and forceful but he never actually goes through with raping him. He almost raped him twice on two different occasions out of anger but he stopped eventually. Big Jane says "I never force anyone" but "I also don't have much patience". It's not romanticized. Little Jane spends a lot of time in the novel in fear. Big Jane is evil, everyone knows that even he himself accepts that.

No there are no supernatural elements, the black wings and Big Jane being a demon are metaphors.

The padlock pendant locket he always wears around his neck has the needle he uses to prick people's finger when they make a contract with him.

He's the son of a billionaire, so he's extremely rich and powerful and has connections all over the world. He's also physically very strong. He's 192 cm tall, extremely smart with an IQ of 200, and exceptionally good-looking and attractive. His parents were also very attractive, and his mother used to compete in beauty pageants, so he got the beauty genes. So he's rich, good-looking, strong, and smart, but most importantly, he's very sick in the head and evil. He's a lone wolf, like a demon. So his wings are a metaphor, it's also described that way in the novel.

Well, there are plenty of other underrated gems which I love with similar lower rating, so that's understandable. But if the bad ratings are from people who expected a soft, fluffy romance and were disappointed when the assault was thrown in, then it's frustrating, considering this show has been marketed as a dark, toxic romance since the very first trailer. Several reviews and comments I've seen here are from these types of people. But you, as someone who's into this genre, raised some very good constructive criticism points, and I appreciate that. Thanks for the perspective.

Plenty of other bls with clearly bad acting, poor production, and cringe-worthy stories have better ratings than this. So the low rating for this isn't justified at all in my opinion, considering this is a pretty well made show despite it's issues.

How is it that so many trashy bls get good ratings but an amazing show like Double Helix with great production gets 7.9? MDL is losing it's credibility.
