I do think the actors in DH are talented, but their skills just weren't utilized properly. Yichen's actor is walking…
I'd disagree, in my opinion, in RL, I could see the problems with acting in most of the comedic scenes. The comedy was a bit over the top, cringe and unnecessary in many scenes. As much as I loved it, I can't forget the mess the 2nd half of the show was, it was very rushed and all over the place. As someone who has loved both the shows when they were airing I definitely feel that Double Helix is a better show overall in terms of production and acting. About your complaint with Yi Chen's portrayal, that's how he's supposed to be, that's how he's in the novel. Even Lu Feng said this around episode 5-6, Yi Chen never expresses himself properly. I wish we could've spent a little bit more time with Yi Chen to understand him even more but I'm still satisfied with what we've got.
This definitely far better than RL in terms of acting and production
I was someone who absolutely loved RL when it was airing, but now that I've seen the other shows that have come out since then, especially To My Shore, Sammy's Children's Day, and Double Helix, I think they have much better acting and production. I feel the main reason RL was so hyped was that it was the first proper full-length uncensored BL to come out of China, along with the amazing chemistry between the leads. But we've had better shows since then. Double Helix has the best production and soundtrack for sure.
No love triangle as the focus but hella toxic : To My Shore, Double Helix, The Prosecutor's Proposal (ongoing), Don't Be Too Emotional (ongoing), Thundercloud Rainstorm.
do y'all have suggestions to bl similar to secret relationship
You mean dark romance with toxic relationships? I'll suggest Chinese Bls - To My Shore, Double Helix; Thai Bl - Don't Be Too Emotional (ongoing); Korean Bls - The Prosecutor's Proposal (ongoing), Thundercloud Rainstorm

After their contract started, Little Jane grew resentful of Big Jane because he was practically forcing and manipulating him into staying with him. So, he got drunk and started making out with Win in a hotel room. Since Big Jane has eyes and ears everywhere, he caught him, went to the hotel room, smashed Win's head (causing him to suffer a skull fracture), and dragged Little Jane back to his condo, where he almost SA'd him out of anger but then stopped. (This was the second time this happened, the first time was immediately after their contract.)Afterwards, Little Jane felt thankful that Big Jane stopped both times, despite coming close to SA'ing him. Big Jane always says, I never force anyone, and he realized that all Big Jane really wanted was for him to stay by his side, nothing else. Big Jane has been really good to him as long as he stays by his side. Feeling remorseful and grateful, then they have heir first time together with Little Jane initiating it.
Can Novel readers tell me if Big Jane is physically abusive towards Little Jane 🥺

Fr. I am seeing this everywhere " he is psycho", " he is toxic" ofcourse he is. This is toxic…
Although I liked the changes they made from the novel for Double Helix, I agree that some aspects of the writing could have been better fleshed out, for example, Yi Chen's character. We got a lot from Lu Feng's perspective, but I felt like we needed more time with Yi Chen to truly understand him in a better way.I also don't think we needed the second couple. They were kind of annoying and didn't deserve as much screen time as they got. That being said, I absolutely loved both of the lead actors - they were amazing. The cinematography and background soundtrack were chef's kiss. It looks like a very well-made show and grabs your attention from the very first episode. To My Shore had the same vibe, and I loved that too.
PS : I also have the habit of reading the novel after watching the show, read Revenged Love, To My Shore, Sammy's Children's Day, Double Helix books and now reading the book for Don't Be Too Emotional.

One thing I found uncomfortable in RL was Chi Cheng constantly threatening Dr. Xiao Shuai with sexual assault. He repeatedly said that if Wu Suowei refused to sleep with him, he'd sexually assault Xiao Shuai instead. Considering Xiao Shuai already has a traumatic past, using this as comedic relief didn't sit right with me. Shows like To My Shore and Double Helix are unapologetically dark and don't portray the toxicity as comedic relief and I like that. I have loved all three shows when they were airing so these are just my observations.
As someone who has read both novels, I enjoyed both To My Shore and Double Helix. I think it all depends on the…
I don't agree with anyone calling Double Helix bad or outright trash. I honestly loved it overall. I think both To My Shore and Double Helix are on the upper end of CBLs in terms of production quality because both shows look really well-made.
But when it comes to characters, I don't think I've come across anyone as interesting as You Shu Lang in a very long time. He's soo strong, cool, complex, and incredibly fascinating. The character writing is genuinely impressive.
With that said, I hope we get more unapologetically dark shows like these. To My Shore and now Double Helix have been feeding us so well :)
