I watched for the CP. They have a unique chemistry. Once you get the basics of what is going on with the politics you can follow. The emperor doesn't want Li Chuan to become emperor because he feels the empress's family will abuse power. Consort R wants her son to be the crowned prince and wants to get rid of Li Chuan and LR. I focused on the romance of the leads. I enjoyed it and will watch again on Netflix later.

It is the reason I love it so much! It is what I see foremost when I think of this drama. It stands out. I really did not notice SRQ in the first half much and only watched him for details in figuring who liked LR. Anytihing else was irrelevant.

I think they both fill in the holes. SRQ is the only person who came back who can reveal the truth behind LR’s death. I think that is why there is more of him in the later episodes.
