And she might be the illegitimate dauther of Prince QI.

Yes. On one hand, on the first episode He was on a mission to kill/ capture a foreign envoy during a peace talk. She spoiled his plan so he attempted to murder her several times over the course of the drama.
So this is why, I complained about him treating her so bad.

But, on the other hand , ML comes from a weak State, located at the borders of two mighty States.
Thus, his country was targeted in a conspiracy during which his father, who was the authority of the state, was framed and killed.
After that, his people were slaughtered and enslaved.
So, ML survived and embarqued on a quest to free his people and restore his kingdom.
This is a righteous and virtuous mission.

The toxicity doesn't last on ML part but on SML part instead.
