I think that just means it's undetermined. That kind of story normally has 36-44 episodes if not 50 or so. It's XianXia. XianXia/Wuxia/Costume dramas are always 36+ dramas & when you see anything dealing with:
1. demons, ghosts - you know it's XianXia
2. martial arts you know it's Wuxia
3. flowy hanubik's etc., long hair, elaborate hair pieces for men, etc.; fancy clothing - Costume dramas

All of the above - I normally just call them Wuxia or XianXia (if there is epic violence).

This is a DRAMA...there has to be a strong scent of romance somewhere. They'll just kill off the character in a bittersweet way. At the end it is XianXia after all.

He's also paired w/ Ireine Song. She's a brilliant actress but possibly old enough to be his daughter...just not working. I figure they could have recreated another Ever Night & ask Arthur Chen if he'd like to take up the role. It's right up his alley - although he'd be a bit type casted it would work.
Or, although he's every where (and he's getting on my damn nerves), Wang Yi Bo - I only mention him b/c it takes him out of his comfort zone. He's never played a role like this. It sounds grittier. It would be right up his ally. Poor choices.

That's actually not what I'm saying. My statement was for BL viewers who felt that Advance Bravely wasn't BL b/c there was no kissing. They thought it was a bromance. It has nothing necessarily to do w/ the Chinese ban necessarily.
There's a debate in the community what is BL & not. For instance, is Guardian still BL or not. To me, Guardian is 1000% BL rather than not.

There are crazy interpretations coming from my post that I clearly stated were not my thoughts at all. For instance, when I mentioned Todome no Kisu, it had nothing to do w/ heterosexuality vs. homosexuality. Or maybe I'm reading something into your post.

I was simply speaking on emotion. Bl viewers particularly those who watch Thai dramas & are moving in between them, Japanese & Chinese. Definitely see Thai as the top unless there's no kissing nakedness - male rape is now considered acceptable & "romantic" in the Thai international bl community. In Jdoramas there's sometimes no hand-holding or even kissing. They call it bromances just like Cdramas. There are no bans in Japan for this.

Second, as someone who's part of the LGBTQ+ community I kind of take offence to you and the poster above who are making assumptions as to what I believe & how I am telling you to think.

I clearly stated what China is doing is blatantly wrong. They're still kidnapping and beating gay people. Gay, transexual, transgender are beaten and killed daily in China -- why in the gods sakes would I be supportive of the ban.

What I am happy about is that The Powers That Be for these originally LGBTQ+ books or Danmei's are being written almost or as much as possible to the book (even w/o the sexual parts) around the ban. Furthermore, China allowed them to get as much as they did around that ban - b/c the language and actions that happened in Advance Bravely were surprising.

It definitely got more than The Untamed.

Let's first break down TPTB = The Powers That Be - normally known as
The producers, writers, directors, original writer of the book worked on the film.

Those people have to work within or around as much of the ban as possible to give us what they did. I'm pretty damn happy w/ the work they gave us b/c it's really good. Which is what I clearly wrote. The Chinese ban could have completely ruined the entire thing & ruined all the shared bed scene. Or when Yaun Zhong called Xia Yao, "Baby." They didn't remove it.

I recommended Go Go Squid. This Cdrama on the first episode gave me Go Go Squid vibes. Epically. So much so, I had to recommend it and I gave my reasons. Qi Nian has to be Tong Nian's cousin. When they fall in love, they fall in love at first sight and w/ the same taste in men.

Yes, girl. Yes. I never saw anything like that. I would be so like that guy behind that pole right in the middle standing like a linebacker. What did she say.

Sorry, not w/ you. I prefer the lead couple. The second couple actually REALLY irritate me. They're like bratty children. That whole coffee scene was so forced. Just unncessary. I felt if Si Qi & Qi weren't cousins but Si Qi was like a student or something they'd be a better match.
She's a grown ass woman acting like a bratty baby. Maybe it's b/c I'm watching Centimeter of Love but I'm tired of seeing a woman of her standing or that's reached that level doing what she's doing. Qi Nian is actually quite professional in her sphere. Lu Qing Wu is not.

I finished this last year but all of the sudden want to start reviewing the dramas I watched. I definitely put this Cdrama as my all-time favourite. It kicked Boss & Me off its pedestal. Once stink I have is definitely the missing episodes that I will rant about en masse.

Third, I can assure you that the other sites you mention actually have their own subbers/subbing teams & their own teams. Those teams have their own FB pages. You can even see it based on the subs if you compare them between Viki & those other sites. Therefore, I recommend checking the facts there.
Dramacool & Kissasian definitely are sites that do that just like Viki's origin.

The real question is do Wuxias give us a happy ending? If we were to put our hands into a basket and pull out an ending; which ending would it be - especially w/ the way this one started?

You know what's crazy I still feel that Guardian was still a bigger hit than The Untamed and I think AvenueX said that. The actors of The Untamed definitely blue up and the drama was super popular but Guardian was still famous. I remember the fan name had a base it was so big. Everyone on youtube were connected. Like all of us chatted w/ each other on YT from post to post. It was a weird vibe...we even got weibo accounts for Guardian. The Untamed didn't do that...
I do think Immortality will be extremely popular b/c of the actors. I'm a die-hard Arthur Chen fan so I'm there. I think it's going to be bigger than The Untamed...I just wonder if it would bigger than Guardian --- I keep comparing all bl success dramas to Guardian popularity.

Why would they compare them? Just b/c it's Wuxia and bl? Laughable. People are so narrow.

I completely disagree here about direct romance between the two characters. There are extremely few C-Drama BL's that actually DON'T show the romance between the two leads.
The unfortunate issue is what people deem as "romance". I find that people don't watch C-Drama's in generally when they hark on the censorship. Don't get me wrong I hate the rule (however it's not like the USA doesn't have it's own de facto censorship system itself).
Hetero C-Drama's barely have characters kissing. They spend the whole time maybe bumping into each other, having those stares, or piggyback scenes. Every single C-Drama BL has the same damn criteria. The point is who had the best criteria in pulling off the loving homosexual love most of them have.
1. Advance Bravely was blantant.
2. Guardian was definitely the one that missed the mark but the characters new what they were supposed to convey & they freaking delivered so I felt they were a gay couple.
3. Untamed was of course great & if Guardian had those writers Guardian would have set the bar.
A lot more post-censorship.
I have complete faith in this story. China overall does know how to deliver quality BL. It's Japan, China, & Taiwan for pure quality bl. Thailand if you want mediocre to poor.
I think this is going to be a masterpiece for bls.
