He became a marquis; he still wants to marry her, but she doesn't want to. He said he can wait for her to decide…
So in the novel Shang Yi Zhi was only Amai's superior during first part of the war - she didn't have any romantic feelings towards him. You can scroll down and find some of my older posts about differences between drama and the novel. She was going through life and death situations with Chang Yu Qing - he could kill her few times but never did - instead saved her life - he told her about his feelings and she confessed to him as well ;) but they were both generals on opposite sides of the conflict and neither of them would betray their country... any way they have made through the war and after peace treaty he is meeting her at the end of the novel :) but it is still an open ending so its up to the reader to decide how the story will be finished.
The Novel has an open ending - so its up to reader to decide about what happens next...
I would simply just add one more sentence at the end of it: Chang Yu Qing smiled broadly and hurried Zhao Yebai as Amai's silhouette was getting smaller at the end of the road.

She has no other reason in that drama to leave Jingyan Pass then to meet CYQ... his message was very clear - there will be few years of peace and he will wait for her... She couldn't tell in the front of all soldiers and knowing that Emperor and PM are in the city that she will marry him... and practically there was only one part missing to complete their marriage... ;) Also Wang Qi knows clearly where she is going as she told him to send her a message if something would happen - and we can see her crossing the border river...
So... CQ was supposed to get passport from PM for the slaughter of Hans... but if I recall well Amai was able to find that about his travel to Beimo thanks to the document forger she met in the Jingbao town where the war started - that guy made a false passport for Chen Qi... another lovely loophole in the plots
It was a mess. They added the ending to match the one from the novel, but here it just didn't feel like the right…
oh my... when you are thinking they can't screw up more they will still surprise you! Which country is killing their most capable general to get 10 years of peace???

Not exactly - she officially retires from army and the last person she will talk to will be Chang Yu Qing - who is waiting for her outside the capitol gates... She told him she is going to find an old friend, CYQ asked if she loves him - she said she doesn't know - but tells him like: let's go and I will find out and then tell you. And he is watching her riding away and then he takes out her father dagger which was her treasure...
Just quickly run through during tea break... where is she going? apparently Wang Qi knows as he is supposed to send her a message if something happen...
He didn't die in the novel :) He had been wounded in one of the battles and send back to Beimo to recuperate.…
I don't remember his name - he was a guarding general of Yinbao town - so the small town Amai got into and which was attacked by Beimo army. She met there Tang Shao Yi.
Sure. He left army as he didn't agree with Yi Zhi fight for the throne - which happened in the mid of the Beimo…
We don't know that - Zhang Sheng was serving under brother Tang for few years and Amai was surprised that he really delayed the rescue... She was wondering why he would do that and then it came to her mind that at the beginning Zhang Sheng was one of Yi Zhi's personal guards, so she assumed it was Yi Zhi request to delay the rescue - he wouldn't tolerate Tang Shao Yi's private army. However when she gets there - there was no TSY body in the mourning hall - she has been told they had to bury him quickly due to temperature and only had seen his tomb. She didn't investigate his death or didn't ask about details - it was just a battle report - so, as martial arts clan would never betrayed Tang Shao Yi and taking into account that Zhang Sheng was his trusted man for many years - there is high chance they used a battle as a cover up and reported his death and TSY just disappeared. The words Zhang Sheng whispered to Amai were a quote from her and Tang conversation which was only known to both of them. So as a reader I can assume he didn't die and Amai got a tip that he is alive and waiting for her at the described place.

was it too hard to follow up a novel???

thats my interpretation ;)
