I don't remember his name - he was a guarding general of Yinbao town - so the small town Amai got into and which was attacked by Beimo army. She met there Tang Shao Yi.

We don't know that - Zhang Sheng was serving under brother Tang for few years and Amai was surprised that he really delayed the rescue... She was wondering why he would do that and then it came to her mind that at the beginning Zhang Sheng was one of Yi Zhi's personal guards, so she assumed it was Yi Zhi request to delay the rescue - he wouldn't tolerate Tang Shao Yi's private army. However when she gets there - there was no TSY body in the mourning hall - she has been told they had to bury him quickly due to temperature and only had seen his tomb.
She didn't investigate his death or didn't ask about details - it was just a battle report - so, as martial arts clan would never betrayed Tang Shao Yi and taking into account that Zhang Sheng was his trusted man for many years - there is high chance they used a battle as a cover up and reported his death and TSY just disappeared.
The words Zhang Sheng whispered to Amai were a quote from her and Tang conversation which was only known to both of them. So as a reader I can assume he didn't die and Amai got a tip that he is alive and waiting for her at the described place.

He would definitely make a good one! He is very intelligent and considerate of others kid - I would say just because he is not an offspring of royal family which in this drama had not even one decent descendant... CP was actually best from all of them - but stupid enough to take his life...

The way how they butchered a novel make no sense to me, the book is hundred times better than this drama... there was no need to transform the story into something completely different

SML was actually real ML in the novel, the second one should be TSY and Shang Yi Zhi would be on third place in terms of their role and relationship with Amai

Regarding CQ - PM is an old fox who knows how to manipulate people and that moment CQ was still very young - I have no idea if we will know more about Amai's parents death - lets see what will happen tomorrow :)

Oh, we also had been told a story of Mu Bai who has been send out of the PM mansion at the age of 5 to became a life companion of YZ as PM was suspecting that boy was actually Qi Han. He was also using his son as a killer during all the years.
ML finally got to know in ep. 34 who Mu Bai is thanks to one of the spies.

So Empress aborted her child to stop her father from rebelling - but that didn't work as she was late with her action...
ML is still stupid as before but we could see that he is not kind anymore - when Mu Bai and Mr Xu attempted to poison Qi Yu to sort out ML's problem - he even didn't bother to punish them in any way
When Amai questioned him about Qi Yu he told her he didn't decide yet what to do with the boy!
He also started to deal with PM minions in the court and killed 3 ministers - he knew they were pretending to be sick so he gave them 2 joss sticks of time to show up for the court meeting but these 2 joss sticks were burning together and beheaded them even they showed up on time in the court.
So we can see his dark side now too...
Qi Yu had been kidnapped by PM and then saved and taken to a secret place by Amai who refused send the boy back to the palace.
The distrust is piling now between Amai and Shang Yi Zhi as she is slowly opening her eyes and started to see his true colours.
There is no logic in these plots - ofc women are not allowed to be in the Army and in the novel emperor didn't let know the public Amai was a woman...
PM decided that he can't trust Yi Zhi and rebelled - he wanted to put Qi Yu on the throne but Zhengbei army showed up and encircled everyone and save a day as ofc it was Amai who found out about PM's plot...
Oh, and Mu Bai and Empress now became upright characters just over the night time ;)
CYQ didn't return - as drama was focused on court plots
PM has been detained in jail and he told to Amai that Emperor colluded with Beimo ;)

in the novel at some point Mu Bai was looking at Amai and thinking - Is she really a woman??? She definitely became very capable general and didn't care about her personal affairs at all as she put her country future and safety of the people over her life and revenge.
We may still see SYZ and Amai talking heart to heart in the last 5 minutes of drama - you never know ;)

Sure. He left army as he didn't agree with Yi Zhi fight for the throne - which happened in the mid of the Beimo war - he became second in command in the martial art sect/village and organise his own calvalry unit. His people were helping Amai to win the war
However he didn't listen to Amai at some point and on his own led the village cavalry to protect one of key strategic points - when Amai got a message he is under siege she did sent him a help
but Zhang Sheng was a former personal guard of Yi Zhi, so apparently he delayed on purpose the rescue mission (it took his unit 10 days to travel instead of expected 5) and Tang Shao Yi has died in the battle. But he left a gift for her - a pair of earrings.
Amai had only seen his grave as it was already summer and they had to hurry with burials.
However at the last chapter of the novel when Amai is saying good bye to her friends Zhang Sheng whispers to her to go to the place which is as beautiful as the painting of cauliflower fields, pear and peach blossom treas and meet an old friend and then winked! (that sentence was a part of the former conversation between Amai and brother Tang)
So we can guess that Amai's big brother is not dead after all - and when Amai is talking to Chang Yu Qing she tells him she is going to find an old friend... CYQ asked if she loves that friend - she said she doesn't know and tell him to go there and find out and then she will tell him :)

I did re-watch it and still don't understand it being honest. Its just messy writing - as they could make PM abducting a child and immediately rebel based on the former emperor edict (which he kept in his possession) passing the throne to Qi Yu.
We also knew that former CP had no influence in the army that's why he wanted to obtain Zhenbei army support - so suddenly seeing an army generals who were apparently CP people is a bit of surprise.
Also PM made so much effort during years to support Yi Zhi and now when he became an emperor and his daughter is pregnant instead of coming clear and give his full support to Yi Zhi he decided to dethrone him and replace with Qi Yu who would be much easier to control.

hmm... do you really have any hope for a miracle?

Ofc there are 1000 ways to rebel against emperor but we only have 2 episodes left and there is still Beimo army coming, so the poor PM had not enough screen time to scheme and rebel properly ;)

this drama was about ML who has personality issues and can't grown up and became a real man as everything has been served to him on the gold plate!
This dumb guy was lucky enough to meed clever and strong FL and thanks to her efforts he managed to survive till the end of the drama.
However she refused to became the eagle in the gold cage and then opened her eyes and finally noticed his true colours and left!
