I did the same when I found novel, just quickly run through it and now reading it properly! and its much better in terms of plot then in the drama Its a pity that scriptwriters decided to make too many changes In the story Wulan Mountains battle shows up how good ML and advisor were in terms of planning and preparations for upcoming attack. They even changed roads and passages through the forests so enemy army needed a time to scout the area and update their old maps ;)

I just finished to watch... and for me the last 6 episodes are the weakest of the whole drama and full of nonsense - the script could be much better written, some plots are completely unnecessary, all feels rushed...
Just to say this: your emperor is accepting capitulation after the battle... he is going to get gifted by the enemies with a locked box... and then boom! really? none of guards or eunuchs didn't check it up? our so usually smart main leads suddenly lost their grip on situation, can't plot and predict things? and actually use intelligence and proper planning for battles?
And whats about LTG character? in very critical moment he is attacking both leads and trying to get drug-forced marriage? he could mature and became a decent guy - but we can only blame screenwriter for his lack of development, in my opinion wasted character potential.
Yuan Lu's death - would you send someone with cardiac condition for speed fast journey? he got to the town, he could find a horse, carriage, walk slower - but, lets make him run, so he can kill himself... where is the whole intelligence network? pigeons?
LTG went alone to emperor with proves of second prince betrayal... knowing so well emperors character and total lack of morals? he was so cunning before? did he lost his mind? you should be running from one to another minister with war report and generals clothes... gather a court and then dethrone old man...
The end - as it has been said its 10 years later, we can see some small town and school during classes, and then we can watch CY encounter with young boy called Ning Shi San, we probably can say both leads did fake their deaths again and got 2 kids and live peaceful life in seclusion. but when giving a hug to a boy CY has a vision of whole Luidao Hall squad galloping together... so I guess its up us to decide if it was happy or sad ending...
