So in the novel the second encounter between Amai and CYQ was looking like:
Amai was in the capitol and in the morning she went out the town to one of the temples and after sometime she noticed that imperial guards are arresting young men and they had a portrait of someone in similar clothing as hers... without thinking much she started to run away and ofc imperial guards were chasing her She got to the cliff and throw down stones rolled in her cloak and was planning to hide in the bushes but the place she jumped in was actually entry to hidden ravine and she has fallen down. there was a lot of moss so she didn't get hurt much... she hidden well and was waiting the guards to pass by... the next thing was someones hand on her throat and she got pressed to the wall... guess who was hiding in that cave? CYQ and it was him who was chased by the imperial guards... Ofc they had to fight - she was trying to trick him (he did expect that as she was a woman after all) he had already wounded arm but still managed to disarm her - any way she ended up again in his hands. As they had to find a way out from that ravine they walked through the darkness for few hours and finally got to the opening which was in the middle of the cliff over the river... She could swim and he can't... but she promised to take him safely on the other side of the water... and thats a part of the conversation they had after:
Amai refused to be fooled and just pursed her lips in silence. She heard Chang Yuqing continue teasingly: "You don't have to be shy. Although we are very different in status, since I have a physical relationship with you, I will naturally not let you down. When I finish my work, I will take you back to Shangjing. if they will stay true to the book, then yes... she is retiring from army and leaving alone with SML watching her riding away... but based on what I had seen so far I guess we will see a different ending as screenwriters changed a lot in terms of plot!

I think maybe they thought public won't like such a heavy war serious drama... YZ cares about Amai, but he has no regrets to send her to the frontline or to complete any risky mission. She will pay for her promotions with sweat and blood and he and Xu Jing are forging her slowly to be the sharpest blade He is building up feelings slowly but there is nothing goofy or childish in their relations, he does good job to cover up her real identity and he suspects who she really is (they are already back to capitol to meet emperor) - she didn't tell him yet who her parents are or that she is a woman... Amai guessed that he must know based on his actions as after being flogged he forbid all military doctors to treat her and Xu Jing captured a nearby doctor and brought him to treat Amai's back... Physician knew that he will probably get killed after so begged Amai to save his life - and she did so by appointing him as her battalion medic.
I do understand that screenwriters had to simplify the plots... but there was a lot of juicy beef which has been lost and the drama would be so much better if they didn't replace real events... Killing CY, making Youzhou citizens being bullied by Beimo soldiers etc... there is a long list of changes or rather I would call it sins on screenwriters account!

exactly! why would you change it! it was written brilliantly! first it was Erdnan who understood Amai is a female and he was shocked... then that capture scene was so hilarious in the book! steamed bun dropping off and one breast is gone... then second one... CYQ was simply astonished... and Amai was really fighting against him despite the arrow in her shoulder... so the whole scene was very intense including some comic elements...

After the novel was published readers where not happy with the ending - so screen writers could try to follow the voice of public and let Amai to leave with CYQ

That would be a huge change as he will die in the novel - if they will stay true to original ending Amai should retire from being a marshal and leave alone to find someone... she will meet out the capitol SML but still keep going alone and he will watch her figure to get smaller
well, I do understand that you would rather keep good plots and simplify or skip boring ones - but they really wrote a lot of crappy scenes, changed ML character, added romantic scenes with no actual build up of feelings/relation
the drama is still pretty good to watch as actors performed very well but I feel a bit of disappointment as plot would be much better if screen writers could follow it up
After watching 20 episodes, I don't want her with the male lead either. All their "romantic" moments look so silly…
I don't think she will end up with SYZ - in the trailers there is a scene when she is leaving palace in the female outfit which actually fits one of the ending scenes from the novel
I am reading a novel... and really can't understand why screenwriters couldn't follow up the original plot! The first encounter between Amai and Chang Yu Qing was written much better then what drama gave us... She and Erdnan got an order to sneak into the Yuzhou and contact general Shi... so they decided to pretend to be a married couple and Amai to disguise as the countryside female used steamed buns as breast fillers ;) and very heavy make up which made her looking rather ruffian. They have managed to get to the town using mule cart and she was sitting on it with a head down when CYQ was passing by with his soldiers (she was curious to see how the killer general looks like) somehow he noticed that there is something wrong with her posture and decided to shot an arrow and she reacted and took a shot into her shoulder... but that was CYQ a trap as actually normal woman wouldn't be able to react and the arrow would just pass over her shoulder blade without hitting her... as the result Erdnan and Amai got caught and when CYQ drag her on the horse and she was fighting with him the steamed buns dropped down .... and he thought she is a young guy who disguised himself as a woman... in the mean time General Shi with a patrol came to check up as he heard that CYQ captured a woman on the street and CYQ is about to show him that its not a woman.... and tried to open Amai clothes when he understood the truth, she managed to grab his scimitar and put it between them and cut his abdomen... all the was hidden up by the CYQ's cloak as he has covered up Amai's body... Any way she told him she has been an assassin send by the court to kill betrayer Shi... why we couldn't have that plot??? what happened next was failed Chen Qi assassination attempt as Amai couldn't do it then she was still kept hostage by the CYQ, got even forcibly kissed by him and finally managed to escape with Erdnans help to Wulan mountains...
there is so far nothing romantic between Amai and Shang Yi Zhi - he knows she is a woman but pretend to do not know that and has no regrets to treat her in the same way as the other soldiers in his army. and he is not a silly boy like in a drama... he has sharp mind, very good military skills and is an upright person. He only has a lot of sympathy and admiration towards her... I guess his feelings will grow with a time as he really wanted her to became his consort in the future but during the war he said that she is a rare military genius and how he can dare to treat her as a woman

Yes, that's a solid part of this drama - FL performance as a male character is just great! She looks like a boy and acts like a boy! and then when we can see her dressed like a lady! whoa! whats a contrast! btw. in the novel she was described as very tall for a lady, so she could pass as young male also her parents came out of another place in time or space... her body had super fast healing ability - like shot through the shoulder blade would scab in 3 days!
Just with the opening and ending theme songs and I already feel that the drama would ended with the FL being on…
No idea how they are going to finish it - I hope they will slightly modify original ending and let Amai to go to "A place with mountains, water, flowers and grass." together with CYQ
