This is the comment I was thinking of making here for quite some time. I really agree with everything you have…
Haha, I also do a lot of thesis about dramas If only this was the subject of my studies in college, I might go with the honors ! You said everything right ! I used to LOVE the original and I still do : but the more I grew up, the less I could pretend not to see the flaws in the writing, especially in the romance. There was a lot of things that definitely wouldn’t work for today’s viewership (such as the absence of sweet scenes between the leads, the fact that he had blackmailed her to get engaged with him and the fact that the female lead was often real imbecile) There was a lot of potential that the screenwriters missed by trying to focus on the love-hate relationship between the leads and the uncertainty of how the love triangle would end, which actually failed the writing. Otherwise, it could have been a big hit.
Nothing, just a question it’s just that since there was already praises about his performance in this drama, I was hoping that meant that he would be more than a guest star (was hoping to see more of him in other words)
Xuehui’s birth mom/female lead’s foster mom ? ‘Cause her actions had irreparable damages on innocent people, including the birth daughter she wanted to promote (Xuehui must now live knowing that her beloved mom is not her real mom, that her birth mom was a scheming woman willing to manipulate children’s lives and endure the guilt of knowing everything she has was supposed to belong to her sister and how much her sister suffers this loss ; I don’t even like her but I do feel sorry for her)
So, the female lead here has a very different dynamic with Anon compared to the original The original focused so much on the male lead’s hiding his feelings by pretending to be mean and the female lead misunderstanding he was a harsh and heartless man that at the end, it was hard to see how she fell for him Here, they softened his temper and interactions with his he female lead, so much that it’s already being obvious why she would eventually prefer him to his kind cousin
On the other hand, I don’t like Pheem so much. I pity him for everything that he just went through and his suspicions over his uncle are obviously justified. But I don’t like how he includes his cousin Anon in it : he honestly doesn’t have any reason to think that Anon would know or be an accomplice of what happened and yet he treats him like an enemy (the fact that Anon trusts his father is not a basis). I just couldn’t believe that when he found Anda and Anon after she was attacked, his first reaction was to think that Anon was the one who hit her (come on, Anon is arrogant but he’s not a guy who hits women) And more importantly, I don’t like how he already seems to think that Anda is already his : i mean, I get that he isn’t pleased with realizing that his cousin also likes her but why does he act like he’s suspecting him to try to steal her from him or to deceive her ? Anon has as much right as him to pursue Anda if he likes her (probably more because he helped her when she lost everything) and Anda has a right to choose. But he seems to think that Anda and him are already together or that she’s gonna accept him anyway
So it’s over And personally I don’t think it was as bad as everyone considered but that’s just a personal opinion. Maybe it’s also because I do my best to not take logic too seriously when it comes to Dramaland (actually, I even tend to throw it out by the window when I do : one of the first rules I’ve learnt to enjoy Dramaland !) It’s definitely not epic : it’s a cute, lighthearted fluffy romance, just the kind of thing we need when we don’t want anything too serious (and god knows I need that sometimes with my anxiety problems) and that does the job Unlike many people, I do think that all of the cast did a really good job. The main couple had cute scenes, good skinship and a strange chemistry which somehow still works out. I wouldn’t call them my favorite ship (I’m just too obsessed by Xie Wei and Jiang Xuening right now) but I think they’re definitely cute to follow I do have a big crush on the niece’s character who starts off as an annoying spoiled imbecile to then grow mature and decisive Again : it’s definitely not epic, and it’s not the c-drama of the year. But in my opinion, it does fulfill the main purpose of a drama, which is make us have a nice time when watching it and that is enough for me
Anyone else wanted to 🤮 when Xue what’s her face seduced the emperor and he was on board with it? Ewwww
In the past lifetime, Xue Ning was the evil seductress using men to become an empress And in this lifetime, Xue Shu decided to take over the part 😂😂😂 (and although she’s good at being a bitch, she’s much less impressive that our Ning Ning !)
Am I the only one who sometimes feels that the princess’ feelings towards Ning Ning aren’t just a big sismance ? I’m usually not the kind to see romantic feelings everywhere but sometimes, it really seems to me that the princess’ feelings towards Ning Ning go beyond friendship or sisterly affection (if there was no Xie Wei, I think I’d ship them, they’re so cute together)
lol, a big applause to Qin Lezhi’s uncle : the punches he gave to this crap of an ex-boyfriend 😆😆😆😆 She’s a bitch but obviously there still are some good sprouts in her family (maybe it’s because they’re just uncle and niece ; so maybe his sibling who is her parent is the bad one who gave birth to a bad weed like her)
Her mom is too much… she knows this matter wasn’t caused by NingNing but she didn’t apologize or tried to make up to her for having wrongly scolded her
I’m so glad that Cheng Lei got confirmed As for Zhou Ye, after watching her in SOT, I’m more optimistic than before (something in her acting remind me Wu Jin Yan in Story of Yanxi Palace) Moreover, I think she would be credible as a woman passing off as a man Can’t wait to know the rest of the cast !

She’s awesome !

Totally different from his stupid wife !
