In the novel it was 💯 more ruthless how he installed the puppet emperor. He massacred plenty of his own just so that his sweetheart's name would not be mentioned, and the soldiers who survived (ML's fathers men) that would question what happened. He had plenty of innocent blood on his hands. That's why his sister took such a drastic step to protect little XZ. They really should have developed his character more in the drama compared to QM.

In the novel it is very clear he committed to the villain act and forced his sister, XZ's mom to commit suicide. She wanted to save the remaining retainers of her husband's loyal guard and her son, she did it for WY to feel guilt and bring back some humanity in him. I wish they had explored the WY character more in the drama.

I think he did not pursue SYQ because it is a war. SYQ fleeing away from the city is no longer an immediate threat. The walls have been breached and if fully invaded they lose the city. Once the foot soldiers invade the city, it does not matter if the leader is dead (which he does not know), bc next in command will automatically take over. Chain of command and all... I know, a strange concept because nobody follows that in this series. 😅

I actually enjoy them making her prefer smaller close range weaponry. It makes more sense because she's only wielded those butcher knives in her daily life. I can't imagine her cutting, with precision, tendons/muscles/arteries with a spear. She literally butchers her opponents and I am here for it. 🔪
