What I think is that she loves all three of them but those are 3 different types of love.CX is the family love.…
That’s true, the moment he realized who she is and what he’s done to her was so heartbreaking. For me it was kinda scary how brutal he can be and yeah breaking her legs wasn’t necessary at all, he had milion different ways to stop her from escaping. But I also understand it was because of his protective nature towards people close to him.
He made efforts to get along with them because he had his own agenda but it was also noticeable how he’s been having a good time with Wen Xiaoliu. He just had other priorities at his plate back then.

I like your point of view, you’re up to something with it. When I think about it there was a chance if they would meet again earlier or were never apart.

The separation made a great damage to their relationship, especially hurting XY and leaving her with attachment issues. She repeated it many times, she’s used to being left by people close to her and unfortunately CX was also one of them. What doesn’t sit right with me too is how badly he treated her before finding out her true identity. There were many signs that she may be XY but he chose to ignore them all and that brought her ever more pain. Both XL and TSJ quite quickly realized she’s a woman despite meeting her for the first time. It’s like she was right in front of him but he couldn’t see her.

He first asked about TSJ and she was hesitant, then asked about Shiqi and she said yes.

Just checked to be sure:

I’m still during my rewatch of season 1 (last few episodes left) and just got to the scene which perfectly describes what you mentioned about XY.

Episode 34, 00:33:16, dialogue between XY and TSJ
XY: ā€œFor me, I am selfish and heartless. My first reaction is always self-preservation and I’m unwilling to trust others. I always think that people’s heart are changeable. It’s not easy for you to tolerate me.ā€
TSJ: ā€œI told you, I’m willing to trust and make efforts first.ā€

Sighs...I think Jing cannot remember maybe because FFYY knocked him out? I don't think that Bish will allow him…
I still consider it a miracle that he managed to be the way he is after all of his experiences and the horrible family he came from.

Even his mother was a cruel person, it’s her fault TSJ and TSH parted their ways and be the way she treated TSH, he’s venting all of his anger and remorse on TSJ. The memories of them being good brothers were ruined so fast when she showed up.

I think that as long as he (and his evil grandmother, too!) believes he spent the night with a women without his consent it may be considered SA. He was drugged, he was made to believe he will have a son with that woman. Even if they ā€œdidn’t make itā€ it’s still emotionally disturbing.

I was heartbroken when I saw him drinking and being all emotionally wrecked after he woke up the next morning.

That’s a really good point you made about XY’s character. She’s either avoiding or pushing people away to make sure she wouldn’t suffer. That makes it harder for her to really engage in relationships.

They made me cry so hard with the ending of ep6. The memories of the old good times they all spend together as family, living simple life, sometimes struggling for money. But all of them were so happy. And the fact that TSJ was still considered as a part of family, coming back every few years was my last straw, I bawled my eyes out 😢

Every time I think about it how his own grandmother literally helped that piece of trash FFYY to literally SA him my blood boils. TSJ has the worst family.

Let’s say she’s not at her best moment in her life and she became kinda toxic recently. The prolonged depression and feeling of loneliness made her acting like that, it’s a self preservation. She chooses to reject him first to not be hurt again.

I guess that’s why she wasn’t able to answer when XL asked who she wants to spend her life with. Because she wants to spend her life with all three of them and that an impossible choice.

She even hesitated when asked if she would like to marry TSJ. Deep down she knows that TSJ is more like a title, person bounded by the family responsibilities. She gave her heart away to Shiqi, who was the most genuine and free. TSJ himself considers Shiqi as his true self.

Crazy how this drama has made me. It was the same last year, after watching each I was crying to bed 🐼
I was ugly crying at the end of ep6. I watched this episode during my break at work. I had a call on camera after that 🤔

Happy to read that, I love analyzing characters and I must admit I have an enormous pleasure watching LYF because the characters are so complex and well written.

Those ship wars are over the place. That’s why I’m repeating myself like a broken record: I love both TSJ and XL equally, they both love XY and she loves them both back. It’s not about who we are shipping her with, in the end it’s all about her own choice.

I was very happy seeing how it became more obvious, that both TSJ and XL respect each other and respect XY’s decision if she’s going to choose any of them (that’s the difference between them and CX, too).

It was somehow shown for XL before but TSJ saying it out loud, that she has to have that choice between him and XL was very nice to hear.

Let’s make them just live happily ever after together as a trio. I wouldn’t complain about that kind of ending 🄲

This is the first drama that I watch that is a real tragedy because the "happy ending" is with a boring guy. :-)…
What I think is that she loves all three of them but those are 3 different types of love.

CX is the family love. They have a lot of memories together, they will be always protecting each other but their paths in life are completely different. From my perspective, there was never a chance for romance between those two.

TSJ is the peaceful type of love. That’s the type of love which may sound boring but that’s something a lot of people may only dream about. To spend days just on living but with the feeling of safety and being loved, knowing how the rest of your days will look like. For someone who needs to have a life full of adventure, that kind of scenario may sound worse than a death sentence.

XL is the passionate love, full of extreme emotions. It’s like fireworks, spectacular and most beautiful but it’s very rare for it to be like that through the whole life. It makes you change, question yourself, but will never give you a feeling of peace. If you want a life like that, to never bored, it may be your dreams come true. But if you look for the feeling of safety and stability, it won’t last.

I wouldn’t dare to compare those three types of love and say which one is ā€œstrongerā€ or ā€œbetterā€.

At the end of the day, it’s what she’s been longing for the most and who she’s going to choose.

XiangLiu and XiaoYao relationship is typically toxic.... they are both terribly wounded, but XiangLiu is healing…
That’s a very good point. At this moment, it’s XY who is more toxic. XL learned a lot and his overall attitude changed drastically. I would say she’s at the lowest point of her life (excluding the time she was captured and tortured).

I am also admiring TSJ as character. He went through hell but he still stayed true to himself. I don’t understand…
I agree, it’s sad to still see it’s a thing in 2024. Man can also be a victims.

What’s funny tho is how people are absolutely blind on the toxic part of XL’s and CX’s characters but they’re trying to find a toxicity in every TSJ’s action.

It’s like they’re refusing to believe there may be someone like this, who went through hell and can still be a good person, so they’re trying to find anything which would confirm their assumptions. Because in reality, most of us would drastically change after this kind of experiences, loosing all the trust to the people. Not that extreme stories were the origins of villains in other dramas and plenty of people would say ā€œwe should pity him, I get him, his experiences made him this wayā€.

He’s from Tushan and he’s a 9-taled fox so he should be after money, he should be cunning and trying to trick people. He should be good at flirting. From time to time other characters make assumptions about him. But in fact he’s everything but not it. Repeating myself but: only egoistic and trutly desired by him scenario is living a peaceful life with XY. I don’t think he ever lied do XY about his feelings. He even admitted when he thought he was selfish, wanting her for himself. There was nothing cunning about it, there was no hidden agenda.

Oh and another thing. The fact that he’s married and still loves another woman doesn’t make him toxic. His wife literally SA’d him. He’s a human being. He clearly didn’t want that marriage, those were the circumstances which made him to do that. If not for FFYY’s, then at least for the child, he decided for what he thought would be best in this situation. I would love to find out what are the other options he had which would not make him loosing himself. Really.

Oh, another thing. TSJ is the 2nd fox character we met in this story. The first one as we all recall was the one who tortured XY for years. But XY even once didn’t make assumptions about TSJ and didn’t compare him to that monster. She sees him as Shiqi, through his scars, through his true form as a fox, through his identity as a ā€œgolden childā€ of Tushan clan. That’s also why he fell in love with her so hard, because she’s the only one who sees real and genuine him, without all of those labels.

And she fell in love with Shiqi, his only true self. Not the wealthy and talented TSJ, but the kind and simple guy who could spend days with her making medicines and hanging out with their mortal friends.
