The scene with Jing's kid really bothered me. Maybe he went looking for him with good intentions, but in the end…
Tbh if this kid would not have a real father, that would be more concerning for me. But his dad is all good and around, we don’t even know what is his relationship with the kid. I guess, TSJ doesn’t care about his wife and she spends a lot of time with TSH. If that’s the case, it’s quite possible that it’s the same for the kid. Looking at his attitude towards maids, someone already has some bad influence on him.

Also, from my perspective that kid was happy seeing TSJ because he was venting and complaining about the maids. But TSJ, instead of helping him, gave him a lesson about lying and treating other people like trash.

Not being this kid’s father doesn’t mean he can’t still be his good uncle. Like I said, real father is not dead or he didn’t left. He’s around and probably cares about the child? I’m quite curious how this situation will be solved.

What doesn’t sit right with me is that TSJ’s wife and (sadistic) brother have an affair, he was drugged by his own grandmother and literally raped by his future wife just to make him marry and stay.

How is it so far? Can't believe S2 dropped, haven't had a chance to see it yet.
Depends on what you’re looking for. If for the gradually increasing amount of pain, then it’s going VERY well. It’s keeping the pace and quality of season 1.

I can’t be saved, I still feel so sorry for him so I am not able to hate him, even if he’s so toxic. He’s been gradually loosing himself for the sake of power to give safety to people he loves. This man deserves to be loved and happy 😢

I realized that I forgot how XL looks like maybe cause I am already used to FFB but dayum he was looking real…
Tan Jan Ci is serving with those looks. They know what they’re doing with his hair and style, both for XL and FBB. I’m literally mesmerized every time he shows up on the screen.

at least cang xuan has a nian
I’m waiting for my favorite girl to show what’s she’s capable of. I love her character development and I have a feeling there is more to come for her with the upcoming episodes.

Title Family by Choice Spoiler
there is no such thing as a second lead in the drama, at least not in the og one
It was more about him wanting to be a part of family, I think. As you mentioned, he wasn’t really into her that way. He just didn’t want to become the „outsider”.

I can’t find the disapproving comments about how Xiaoyao is being ‘immoral’ so let me write a general reply…
I also think she’s particularly broken because she knows TSJ is not a bad person and the way he decided to still marry the woman he has a child with is also what she loves about him.

It may sound crazy, but TSJ is the kind of person who’s always trying his best to avoid hurting everyone else and make a right choice. I think XY would loose her love for him if he would decide to leave that piece of trash (I’m sorry, I really hate this character) alone with (probably) his child.

It would be much easier for her if he would give her a reason to hate him. But she’s not able to, also knowing that his love for her never changed. She’s aware he was set up to spend the night with the other woman. She’s fully aware it’s not his fault. I don’t even think she really blames him for this situation. That’s why she suffers so much - because there is nothing she or he can do. Their situation seems hopeless.

I think what you mentioned is the reason I love this story so much - even if it takes place in a fantasy world, the relationships between characters are so realistic. Everybody has their flaws. All of them are bound to make not the best decisions and live with the consequences. Sometimes, choosing one thing makes us loose something (or someone) else.

XC loosing XY and freedom for power to make everyone who’s important for him to be safe.
XL loosing XY and freedom for being consistent with his own decisions and (in some twisted way) for making sure XY is safe (even if it means distancing himself from her).
TSJ loosing XY and freedom because of him wanting to always do „the right thing” and avoiding hurting everybody around.

That’s what life is about.

He had some red flag moments in S1 but it’s getting worse. Even grandpa picked up on it.
Definitely, our man is really loosing it

You have a good point about her being childish. I think it’s the only time we really see this side of her. She had no chance to learn the „woman’s ways” as she’s repeatedly reminded by people (she doesn’t have an interest in clothes and thing that women usually do). That’s how her version of being feminine is.

Also, I’ve been always thinking there are no rights and wrongs when it comes to this discussion „who XY should be with?”. Both TSJ and XL love her in a different way but equally strong. Same for her, she loves them both very much. What’s the most important at the end of the day is the choice she will make. She could have a happy life with both of them. Even if those are two very different paths.

What I’m sure about is that she would never be happy with CX because he’s been always seeing her as this little girl and their paths in life are too different. Not mentioning I don’t think she was ever thinking of him as potentially romantic partner.

It’s amazing how XY’s relationships with TSJ and XL are so different but similarly intense and painful for her.

She’s resonating with XL because of the similarities they share. They both are survivors and the outcome of it is that they’re distancing themselves from their own emotions, afraid to speak about their feelings. The scenes they spent time together are the most beautiful and poetic in the whole drama. Their encounters are always full of tension but also there is nobody in this world who understands them better. And that’s their curse, this similarity they share.

TSJ is also a survivor but it made him want to withdraw from his previous position as TSJ, preferring to have a simple life, not influenced by wealth and power. He’s been very open about his feelings for XY from the beginning. Despite the similar experiences, him and XY are the complementary opposites. The time they’ve been spending together is filled with peace and sense of security. Which is what XY wants in her life the most: someone who would be with her forever and give her this feeling of safety.

She loves them both very much, I’m sure. But XL is the „risky choice”. That’s why she’s been holding back from falling for him, as she’s aware that he can eventually leave her because of his own choices he made in the past. She’s been repeatedly hurting him in purpose as it’s her self preservation mechanism. She know if she would fall for him, there would be no turning back and she would completely loose control over her emotions.

As for TSJ he’s the only man who made her feeling secure enough to release her feminine side. He’s been so persistent and honest that she let her guard down for him and let herself fall in love. She loves him for it, that he’s so different from her.

I just wish that those three could have a long and happy life together. That would be the best ending for me 😢

XY was the first person to discover that FFYY (YSQ/TSJ's long-time fiancee) was pregnant. At that time, FFYY made…
I feel so sorry for TSJ, his family is making him suffer all the time. First, best brother venting his hatred and jealousy in a form of torture. Then, best grandmother, making him marry the woman he obviously doesn’t like, than helping her to literally rape him. His mother was also a piece of trash, treating TSH like a shit just because he wasn’t her own kid. Like, wtf is wrong with this family and how on earth someone with such a gentle character came from this hell? Him staying a good person after all of this is really a miracle.

Oh and during the rewatch I especially focused on CX’s character - he’s being built to be a madman for the whole time. Very nicely done, in the first 4 episodes he’s getting just more obvious with his obsession (ekhm, even grandpa noticed) and openly controlling (emotional blackmailing to have XY next to him, even if it makes her visibly unhappy).

Same here, I don’t find the beginning of this season „slow” (I noticed this kind of opinions). But maybe it’s because I rewatched season 1 in the last days, so I had a really smooth transition to the new episodes.

That moment was a representation of the result of his decision to become a king. Looks like he has more power…
Not his grandpa repeating over and over again that XC chose this path and there is no turning back 😢

For me, she did understand what Xiang Liu said (if I had chosen another path, I wouldn't have met this person.)…
Definitely she knew but she chose to act like she’s oblivious. I even found her a little bit snarky towards him during that scene.

CX remains the most layered character(my favorite ngl) but I can't help but resent his selfishness when it comes…
At this point he’s getting more and more obsessive and controlling. He’s lost control over his own life and XY is the last thing he selfishly wants for himself, since he lost himself for power and the people to become a good king.

Another thing is, for me he’s not really in love with XY, more in his own fantasy about her. The best example is him always building those swings and planting phoenix trees. That man lives in the past, refusing to recognize real XY. He doesn’t see she’s a grown up person, having her own view on life and desires. Plus let’s add the fact that he didn’t even recognize her back then when she had man’s body (XL and TSJ both quickly realized she was a woman and liked her for who she is from the beginning).

That moment was a representation of the result of his decision to become a king. Looks like he has more power when in fact he doesn’t have a freedom at all. He chose to be a ruler sacrificing his own desires. Him being sad is not important to anyone. Most important is that everyone else is happy, even his close people. I’m trurly sorry for him 😢
