Why is that a bad thing? Why is protecting the truth a scary thing? What China did in terms of historical dramas is not censorship. I am for the protection of truth. place your fantasy in fantasyland, not that hard to do. Banning depictions of same sex relationships in film is censorship, like China did. I am always saddened/against that, loved Counter Attack and Addicted.

This is a culture trying to preserve itself. Censorship is ALWAYS about crafting a countries narrative about itself. for instance S.Korea just stopped Joson Exorcist. Partly because of the depiction of the King. Netizens are all yelling and whining about poor Korea and its censorship and what that portends. they don't even seek to understand the CONTEXT of the cultural onslaught that China and Japan have had done to Korea. also the netizens somehow think that censorship is missing in their own countries. I am from the USA and if they did a series that depicted George Washington raping black teen girls and then selling off their babies--which is not far fetched considering he own and was known for beating his slaves--the sponsors would drop it after the first yell or threat of boycott.
This drama did not need a historical reference. I live in the US and I am tired of misinformation.

I always look up the characters if they are historical...I am just noisy like that. I like to know. So I was sorry that I looked up this King as his life was shit. So all through the drama i can't really believe in a happy ending cuz I know. ghee whiz just stick it in Novoland?

Exactly! What the heck just make up some names. Robert E. Lee as a founder of the Underground Railroad would not fly here in the US.
That having been said I really enjoyed this drama. It was top notch as did not need the historical placement as a draw..

wELL I say good luck to the Koreans on crafting their narrative. Which if you learn anything about Northern Asian history is kinda their thing. Can't just lie about the past. Until the mid 90s they censored and banned all Japanese culture from their country. I live in the US where part of our government are trying to keep people from voting so I can hardly criticize how some other culture handles misinformation.

I think you took the comment about Chinese actors forced in the very underlying way it was meant. It was a swipe that implied that Chinese people are forced to be parotitic. Which is a talking point used against China. And how can you be asked not to take it personal, when politics are lived! I would think that most of these actors would JUMP at a chance to be in an EPIC film.
I don't live China, but it certainly seems that the average Chinese person has WAY MORE choices in life than at any other time in Chinese history. Especially if you are a woman.
