The quality of this production and the unique IP exceed dramas with higher MDL scores which don't always reflect quality. This drama flows more like a continuous cinematic movie with a central storyline than common drama soap opera style stories one conflict after another. This story is one that you immerse yourself into it from beginning to end instead of rush.

I'm not up to date this doesn't seem to fit the story in the novel, why would they do this in the drama? It makes no sense to me.

I was wrong to assume he had no powers to defy gravity. Mei Zhuyu indeed was only pretending to not be able to land on his jump off the tower gate and rather break his leg than show his true powers. I just saw a clip of him gliding in the air across the waters. It means he does possess qingqong to perform these acts. In addition, the clip shows Mei Zhuyu fighting with his sword. Both of these things, qingqong and swordsmanship aligns with wuxia martial heroes, and the label wuxia can apply to this drama.

I put a spoiler. it's how it happened in the novel only. no one knows the script will go. So, if they follow the novel, chapter 35 marriage and chapter 45 they discover each other identity, which means discovering each other identity could still be a ways off.

in the drama, their identities became known to each other, there was plague god approaching Chang'an. Cat Lord went to fight it but Snake Lord was away, it was too much for Cat Lord, and Taoist Master Frost ran to find Mei Zhuyu for help, at first Mei Zhuyu declined to get involve because the Demon market was the jurisdiction of Cat Lord, but when the person said it was really serious, so he went with him. When he got there, he realized it was Wu Zhen who had fallen to the ground injured, he put on a powerful display and wiped out the plague god. Wu Zhen realized Mei Zhuyu is powerful Taoist, At the same time, Mei Zhuyu had learned from Taoist Frost that Wu Zhen was his friend, so he connected the dots and knew she was Cat Lord.

Also, interestingly, Mei Zhuyu jumped down from the tower gate and didn't injure his leg.

no the rating was like 7.8 on day 1 of airing

yes, he was spirited and adorable personality in the novel but much younger, I think 17 yrs old, here in the drama he must be at least 25 yr old, since he calls Mei Zhuyu "Little Zhuyu." The actor did a great job. yes, in the novel, he was fascinated by demons and spirits and didn't know if they really existed. I enjoy his interaction with that snake.

In Episode 1, I really think Mei Zhuyu was utterly bedazzled by Wu Zhen’s beauty, gazing up at her as she stood tall by the open window.

It makes sense, Mei Zhuyu didn't want to land properly when he jumped down from the gate to expose his powers. Rewatching Ep. 1, I can see he tries to avoid using his powers in front of people.

Actually, Xu Kai though portraying calm and still almost emotionless Mei Zhuyu, still, his face, eyes, and body language speaks volumes.

I'm rewatching from Ep 1 on properly and it's amazing how much details you missed.
