I thought the CGI was great, but I don't watch much fantasy, so I'm no expert. Maybe if the demons and special effects don't feel real or frightening to you, it's because Moonlit Reunion has a lighthearted, fun, magical vibe. The demons and special effects aren't supposed to look super real or scary—they're just there to add a bit of fantasy and help tell the story in a charming way. For me, I thought Evil Infant looked like a fiendish scary monster. I think MR is just not your kind of monsters.

I was waiting too for Mei Zhu Yu to appear, but setting aside my own interests, I think the ending is interesting, who would have imagined it. A lot of dramas the ending is mostly predictable, this one just took imagination to another level, because it is fantasy. (It's like watching Star Wars to only find out later, that's really his biological sister.) Who would have thought the demon chaser is a demon himself.

I hope Xu Kai can have more screen time, no not just screen time, I really like his interactions with older characters who are also really good actors. That's why my top pick to watch Xu Kai for 2025 has always been 800-meter radius.

Some speculate that his memory of his father was sealed, but another possibility is that the man he encountered in the past does not look like his father for whatever reasons. Perhaps in the Great fire, he became unrecognizable, he had some sort of demon marking on his forehead too. His mother is human, so her form never changes. I don't recall if earlier episodes showed his parents at all, I don't think they ever showed any pictures of them. Since demons can change form, and he had been fighting to his death, that his form became unrecognizable to Mei Zhu Yu.

WZ possessed the former Cat Master's power and became a full demon once the evil infant was removed from her, but MZY has the power of the Zhu Yu plant that his father cultivated, that plant has more than just the former Cat Master's power, it's got some kind of special mystical powers of its own. The plant turned from green to purple when he woke up a demon. I assume he is also cat demon?

In a scene where WZ still under memory loss was trying to cultivate Taoist power, MZY explained to her that Taoist powers and demonic powers are mutually exclusive and cannot be merged. If anyone can merge the two, they would become the most powerful being, which is what happed to MZY. That line was foreshadowing him.

Interviewer: Have you noticed that many of your characters have a bathing scene?

Xu Kai: Perhaps we ourselves don't quite get it. I'm just sitting there soaking all day, just so you all can see me for a moment. the mystery is revealed at the end of the drama that mzy is half demon (mother is human, father is demon) but with bloodline of cat clan like his full demon father, unlike wz who was half demon with no bloodline to cat clan, she's not born a demon but given demonic powers by former Cat Master so she turned demon. The true heir to Cat Lord is really mzy. wz eventually becomes full demon because of what mzy did.

Why only Mei Zhu Yu and Wu Zhen can wield the Changxi Sword goes back to 18 yrs ago with the Cat Master. When she was able to wield it in front of Mei Zhu Yu, it shocked him. But that was foreshadowing that their destiny and fate are intertwined.

I wouldn’t call it a rushed ending—it was a compressed one. They had to cut two episodes, which meant some details and character moments got squeezed out. The core plot still had foreshadowing and structure, but the emotional depth probably took a hit. It was still emotional. The actors delivered the emotions well. I actually like the ending very much from a storyline perspective. It is fantasy after all.
