I notice these things because I watch Xu Kai dramas for his nuances. I like his acting style very much. when they give him emotional scenes that last more than a few seconds, his face explodes with emotions, not exaggerated gestures but deep emotions across his face, body, esp, those eyes. and I don't mean crying scenes, just scenes that involve emotions.

This is not explained other than we know from what he says, she will have the power one day to wield the Changxi sword. I think this was the key reason but never explained how. Also, something Mei Zhuyu said is connected to Changxi Sword power but not sure how it does but Mei Zhuyu says Taoist magic and Demonic magic cannot be merged, if you can do it, you're the most powerful being in existence. He told Wu Zhen this when she was trying to practice Taoist magic.

No one ever suspected Mei Zhuyu is demon because he never cultivated demonic magic. He only cultivated Taoist magic. He himself did not know he has demon blood.

I noticed in the flashback when they were both kids, he exchanged his lantern for her fish lantern. That was the same fish in the promotions.
