I don't think Wu Jin Yan was his favorite, nor Xu Kai but then Xu Kai became famous overnight in his first real role in the Story of Yanxi Palace, a role he only got because the other actor didn't want to shave his head, not because Yu Zheng was thinking of promoting him because it's obvious from Untouchable Lovers. I doubt he thought the character was that important to the drama so let Xu Kai do it. Every few years, Yu Zheng will have talented newcomers to promote. Whatever he does, is solely for his benefit. It's all business to him.
