When do you think Matthew Lee, the ML, will appear?
There were a few things saying the current year of the drama was 2017 or 2018 I think on the first 2 episodes, so I'm expecting he'll only show up after a timeskip...
i guess Matthew Lee is the person whom Halabeoji Bang is bowing up to.
I thought so at first too but I actually think that person is the "true" villain. At least from ep 3 there seemed to be someone who wanted to kill Da Mi even harder than all other characters lol.
I'm back to this site to talk about this drama. Can't wait for the protag to show up and kiss all these bitches goodbye. My current guess is that he's Ra hee's ex or something who is the actual father who Ra hee rejected because he was too poor or smth (not the dude from that scene)
And the scene at the beginning of ep 1 really gave me hope that Matthew will go all jigsaw
The acting and direction for this was pretty good. I started hating the theme song halfway through. I still accidentally hum it sometimes and hate myself for it. The story was pretty bland. Liked when it went into typical undercover cop stories, but they definitely put out the safest and blandest story direction as possible - the romance was pretty dumb and that scene where the cop boss justified the complex discussion on war on drugs as just a "keep trying and we'll catch them all" thing was ridiculous. Too much of a conservative take on the theme to have on 2021, specially on a female-centric show.
finished this yesterday. it definetely had a lot of influence from kiyoshi kurosawa and japanese horror from the 90's (no wonder they picked that timeframe to set it on). anything based on those is a plus on my book. I definetely think it could have been better in some places, but in the end it does work as a serious horror korean show (which is something that doesn't always work)
yep, this is another post discussing the male leads "issue" so don't read this if you're avoiding those spoilers.
this drama really is showing how addicted to the drama cliches most of us are - and why the drama industry keeps releasing dramas that tell the exact same story with a different aesthetic. the male lead and the female lead are going to become the one and only couple, forever and ever after! they both knew each other since they were 3 and met at the beach! their parents hated each for some damn reason! the mother in law hates her because she is poor, oh no! her childhood best-friend secretly likes her and he's sooo cute, why isn't she dating him!
I know and understand people enjoy watching safe shows where they know what's happening, where they have total control of whatever's going on screen, but... this isn't the case. and maybe we should give it a chance because of that, okay? I'm personally glad that the male lead being Just Another Guy is extremely uncommon in kdrama, so let's enjoy that. as someone else from mdl told me the other day, this isn't a romcom, it's more of a slice-of-life series, and I might as well add: it's a slice of yumi's life. so this is about following her life, and even with the cute cartoon stuff, this is more of a grounded show.
for those of us that don't feel put off by that, let's keep watching and having fun, ok? if you don't like this, honestly... there are tons of "typical" kdramas featuring all that stuff I said above. Some are probably airing right now.
I really love the horror elements and contrary to many here I'm hoping it's not just an hallucination... The genre mix gets us all confused but I think that's part of what's making this show so good, and I hope they keep that till the end
Yumi's Cells webtoon is actually under the slice of life genre category in webtoon and not in the romance or comedy…
Yeah that makes a lot of sense considering the structure. It's more condensed than what I'd expect a slice of life to be, but the way it focuses mostly on Yumi sure goes that way.
Guys I know people perhaps don't know, but the writer of this series is an asshole.Production must have known…
I hope it was a prerecorded drama so we won't need to change writers... this drama had pretty distinct writing for a korean drama so a halfway change would be a terrible idea
Totally wasn't expecting this to be horror! And it felt pretty good. At the beginning they even did somewhat of a The Wailing reference with the police station scene, so cool! Also has a lot of early 00's japanese horror vibes like Ringu. Props for what is probably one of the best drama productions/directions this year: music is not played at every possible scene (looking at you, most thrillers we had in 2021), the colors chosen for the images are also very reminiscent of those early 00's horror films and the 3 leads are amazing. Can't wait for more

"National Tax Service"... oh YES
