The way they have essentially wrapped up and explained her dream is really well done. Nothing miraculous or fanciful,…
Also, I saw where persons were questioning why Lu Xun would love her, and in my opinion rather than Lu Xun, I don't understand why she and Li Chong Wen were together.
As she pointed out, their relationship was faulty from the start. They have no chemistry together, if anything, they look like a dutiful older brother taking care of his little sister whom he thinks can't do anything without him. He liked her because he thought she was a naive little girl that he could indulge and protect. She liked the serious and heroic image that he projected. Neither of them truly understood the other, which led to their inevitable breakup.
On the other hand, Qian Wei and Lu Xun saw each other as equals. The flashbacks state multiple times that they were each other's academic rivals, but I don't think it clearly communicated just how smart and hardworking Qian Wei was. I think Lu Xun liked that, the fact that she had a clear goal about what she wanted to achieve, and worked hard to achieve it. And let's not forget that he clearly enjoys bickering with her. In Qian Wei's case, she was too blinded by her love for Li CHong Wen, and the easy-going romance that they had to see Lu Xun as anything else but the classmate she wants to beat, and the annoying person she had petty fights with. Their relationship makes a far more sense than her and LCW.
The way they have essentially wrapped up and explained her dream is really well done. Nothing miraculous or fanciful, just the people who love her talking to her and her subconscious mind filling in the gaps. I love that Qian Wei is not stuck longing for a dream world where almost everything was perfect, and is now instead looking forward and going after what she wants with the same drive as in her dream.
I have not watched much of any time travel dramas before this so I don't know how they show/handle reverting to the original time, but I really love how they do it here. Getting flashes of things that shouldn't be in the past, and her third person viewing herself being rescued, sets an ominous tone that something is wrong.
The only word to describe this is adorable. Qian Wei's family is adorable. Lu Xun's family is adorable. Their friends are adorable. Qian Wei is adorable and above all else, Lu Xun is absolutely adorable.
I think the ML is way more fun with his ancient way of thinking, but totally agreed with you about the hiding…
True, his ancient character is more energetic and comedic. But it has gotten old real quick for me. Definitely a missed opportunity, that would have been the real gold standard comedy.
Imagine him waking up, not knowing anything but just going along with it until he could figure out what in the heck was going on. Having to familiarize himself with modern life until he meets Ming Wei and tries to plan their escape with her. The possibilities would have been endless.
Up to episode 9: Honestly started skipping most scenes with the ML. Watching FL adapt to her new environment and that conversation between her and the mean actress is far more interesting and enjoyable than everything else. Even Xiao Zhao and Ming Qiao are more entertaining to watch. Also, ML's character before and after amnesia plot are very similar (both stoic and quite frankly bland), so it's hard to stay entertained with the promise of him recovering.
Good production, good acting but the plot isn't as exciting as I wished it would be. Maybe it would have been more interesting and more topical if he was actively masking his illness. Considering both himself and the character he was playing are smart and adapt well, masking would have made sense.
This is truly one of the best romance dramas airing now. I really appreciate Mo ZiXin's character. I'm glad that they wrote her to be rational and an absolute sweetheart, instead of the characterization that is normally portrayed in dramas.
We love a confident and competent FL ̶t̶h̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶h̶r̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶g̶r̶a̶y̶ ̶j̶a̶c̶k̶e̶t̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶e̶p̶i̶s̶o̶d̶e̶ ̶1̶1̶. Especially love that the women in this aren't reduced to stereotypes; even Zhang Bi who is rather childish and just this side of annoying has more to her character than what it would typically be.
Also, I've probably said this before but, I really like that the three relationships portrayed are so different, and that unlike many romance dramas, this has shown that relationships (romantic and otherwise) face many kinds of problems. Some problems are petty and make a situation uncomfortable, whilst other problems can be more complex.
Lu Xun has basically become her husband, and his in-laws love him. His character is one of the nicest MLs I've ever seen. He has liked her for that long and never made his feelings her problem, so much so that she didn't even know that he likes her. Characters that force their feelings on others are the worse and so that one thing about his character makes him even more loveable.
I also appreciate that Mo Zi Xin isn't being petty or mean. I think she realized or was told that Lu Xun likes Qian Wei but she hasn't done anything against Qian Wei. Hopefully they are able to maintain their friendship without any drama.
In Ep4, FL tells ML that she already knows the topic of debate and she wants to win it fair and square but the…
You have a point. I think it's the directness of Li Chong Wen telling her the topic, and the fact that he was the one that told her, that made her feel uncomfortable and that it was unfair. Also, I doubt she remembers every single thing. If anything, she's using her knowledge of the past to not make the same mistake that she did previously and to take initiative to make her future better.
I did not see that time travel tag. I don't like time travel dramas but now I'm curious ðŸ˜
Probably lol. The concept just never really entertained me, feels too outlandish and childish. But I'm 3 episodes into this and I am enjoying every bit of it.
