I made the mistake of becoming too invested in oscar x Leyan, if they're endgame but not dating after the show…

so disappointed with the directors decision to cut that 😭 I just finished watching it and it was so much better…
I saw. You already answered them with a detailed comment from an mdl user who explained it well, then you also gave your own explanation. I don't see what more that person needs. Right! Like what is so hard about her character plsss...I am so tired of seeing such comment, we keep seeing this since the beginning. Also, her driving all the way to confess to Seunghyo, her having sex with him, her saying I love you to him and now her admitting she wants to propose to him. For sakes, what more do this people want from her, she loves Seunghyo obviously. You should get some rest! hope you feel better soon ^^

you're awake?? Hello (ΛΆΛƒ α΅• Λ‚ΛΆ) .ᐟ.ᐟ it is night time here already!
I tried my best hahah but thanks! ❀️ I woke up and read comments from twitter and here. So many people are mad at Seokryu saying she doesn't love Seunghyo then her rejection doesn't make sense. So many mixed reactions from people, mostly negative ones. I was waiting for positive comments and the partying because they ended ep 14 in a good note without the truck of doom or the ep curse ahahah like they are getting married but some people still stuck at her rejection. Yeah they aren't laughing at all just mad mad. They started hating the writer even hahah and calling everything a mess. ohhh no get well soon πŸ₯Ί it's final week for LND nation πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

While I understand where Seunghyo is coming from with his proposal, which I had already wrote down last night. I would like to again, share about my understanding towards Seokryu's rejection but in a much more elaborated sense. This is my opinion and insight about her and her rejection.

Seokryu is a character that has been written to be the typical 'eldest daughter' in an asian family household. If you know, you know. She is the absolute epitome of selfless rather than selfish which some might see her with the way she handles certain situations. However, if you are seeing things in her perspective in a 'realistic eldest daughter of an asian family household' sense, I believe you will be able to have a deeper grasps of who she truly is as a character and resonate more with her life decisions. So, what does her rejection have to do with this? This is where I will tell you that her rejection is another selfless act and a reasonable one at that.

Her reason was not something suddenly taken out of the blue just to mess with the plot. Since the writer has been consistently taking the storyline in a realistic way, of course, the characters' themselves have to match up by being realistic as well. Especially with the 'cancer survivor' trope they had went with since earlier episodes. From the point where Seokryu had been diagnosed with cancer, hiding it from her family and friends, to her remission or recovery, where she fell to depression and broke off her engagement with her ex. She has long been very firm about not wanting to become a 'burden' to each person who are dear to her. Including Seunghyo.

It's easy to say that she should have already moved on from the whole cancer thing. Yeah, that is true, but that would then be an inconsistency in her character and the whole 'cancer survivor' trope they had pulled, plus all the struggles she had went through from the get-go. The writer is keeping the realism here. The reality of 'cancer survivors' and the struggles they still constantly face even after it, the constant fear of its reoccurrence, not just about death but how the cancer survivor themselves know how much toll and damage it could do to their love ones who would stick by their side as well. Seokryu has experienced it first-hand with her ex-fiancee. What more for Seunghyo, her childhood friend and boyfriend whom she values so dearly.

Thus, her rejection for me with regards to Seunghyo's proposal is not an inconsistency, a mess, unreasonable or selfish but rather the absolute opposite. Seokryu always sees the bigger picture in things even if they had not happened yet. She knows that marriage is a life-time commitment. She does constantly fear the reoccurrence of the cancer itself, but what she is more afraid of is becoming a burden and hurting Seunghyo when it happens. Her rejection doesn't mean she loves him less or doesn't love him at all, rather she loves him so deeply and values him so much to the point she would rather have him take a lesser blow with the rejection than him hurting more later, even if she wanted to accept his proposal deep inside.

The last scene between both Seunghyo and Seokryu is a significant moment, most especially for Seokryu. Seunghyo who acknowledged and understood her worries and fears, gave her the perfect reassurance and answer which she needed. Hence, resolved her worries and fears as she now knows that Seunghyo is willing to go through it all with her. They both obviously love each other, no love outweighs the other. The writer showed us two deep acts of love with this episode. Seunghyo who is willing to go through a lifetime with her no matter how uncertain the future is and Seokryu who would rather carry it all, if it means it would make her other half suffer less. I believe this is what they call the 'self-less act of love'. Was it all necessary? I believe yes. It's a touching tale of their love story.

Jung Somin's take on 'Love Next Door'

"It's a story that a young person can easily experience while living in this era. I couldn't help but feel drawn to it because it's a story about people of the same age. It's not just a story of our generation, but also a story of other eras that we've closely observed, all intertwined"

indeed, LND is heartwarming πŸ’–

It's so sad that LND will be ending this weekend. I will definitely rewatch everything all over again! I must say, this is my favorite drama of the year. It sure has some flaws in it, but when did kdramas ever had perfect writing anyway. Despite that, there are a lot of things I love about LND. From storyline to characters. I love love love the consistent realism and realistically written characters. It will be so hard for me to find another gem like LND 😭

Ikr!! I remember those times hahaha I read the comment section again, feels like QOT 2.0 comment section all over again. I see some are explaining about the FL's reason for rejecting the proposal and are understanding it, but some complains about Seokryu not loving Seunghyo and his love is one-sided...they forgot just previously seokryu said I love you to Seunghyo and she admitted in the end how she wanted to accept his proposal. Also the reason for her rejection was because of her fears not bcs she doesn't love Seunghyo. She just has a different way of expressing her love for him and I see people failing to get that 😬....

It would be perfect if this with two moms didn’t happen. A bit disappointing :(
I expected it since the very first episode with how they both were constantly bragging about their child's achievements with each other. There were also subtle hints in earlier episodes that clearly points for such events to occur.

Seokryu's mother had always been insecure. She's also prideful. The recent events finally pushed at her last buttons so she snapped.

As someone with a genetic disorder that has no cure, I deeply relate to SR's situation. Living with the awareness…
You explained everything so well. It will always be just a tip of an iceberg for people who had never experienced it. Which is why I love LND for this. The writer used the cancer trope in a different way than most kdramas that used the same trope. Its input in the storyline gives highlight to those who suffered from it or are still suffering from it β€” including their loved ones who cared for them. It's also the first kdrama which I think that focused on the damage and hardships one had to deal with in remission state.

One very notable thing about LND is the consistency of the writer in terms of resolving issues/problems that arises. They aren't dragged. Instead, are wrapped up in a very satisfying way.

I agree so much with you! Your TED talk is spot on.

I have a neutral standpoint. I don't favor one character over another, so I always let myself delve into each of their shoes for me to understand their actions, words, feelings and simply who they are. It's always been that way for me when it comes to real-life or watching k-dramas. So, there is no character to be blamed here regarding the 'proposal', as both of them are coming from a reasonable standpoint for me.

This is just my opinion with regards to episode 14. For Seunghyo, his proposal is the 'right time', given they have long known each other, like they literally grew up together and spent so much time together. I know that 'friendship' and 'relationship' are two different things, but given their history together, for him it is already enough as they will eventually end up in marriage anyway. Also, Seunghyo had long been in love with Seokryu. He had suppressed his feelings throughout all the years, only to find out that she is the only woman whom he truly loves. He had basically loved Seokryu for a long time now. Not to forget how he had the '7 minutes' of his life flashback at him with his recent incident. So yeah, he doesn't want to waste time. He has done enough of it with his countless multiple failed attempts of confession to her back then.

As for Seokryu. I completely understand where she is coming from as someone who had a family member suffer from such illness and the relapse itself. Again, cancer is not just merely an illness that damages one's physical health, it damages the mental well-being of a person too. It is like a ticking time bomb. You are left to be engulfed in continuous fear of it reoccurring suddenly. That constant thought is something that those who had experience it had to go through for most of their lives. Her rejection towards Seunghyo, speaks how much she loves him. She would rather hurt him by rejecting his proposal which would be 'less damage', than let him suffer the possibility of her cancer reoccurring. The writer leans once more to the realistic side.

I am a firm believer that 'love' has no definite expression. Which is why love languages exist. Every single person receives love and gives love differently. Both Seokryu and Seunghyo's love language are completely polar opposites. Seunghyo is an expressive lover, while Seokryu leans more to the silent lover type. Definitely Seokryu loves Seunghyo just as much as he loves her.

I don't know why some people still can't see Seokryu's love for Seunghyo. She had also clearly declared her love for him in previous episode. Which I think people might be forgetting. There are many scenes that points out how much she loves him, from the time they were still friends up to their dating era. It is just that her way of expressing her love is more into actions than words. Also, she expressed it herself how she wanted to accept his proposal but her worries and fears caught her up in the moment and Seunghyo's words helped relieved that part. I wasn't that completely disappointed with the proposal rejection scene because eventually at the end it was resolved well. Another scene for me to love is that ending scene. As much as I love their lovey-dovey moments, their emotional scenes always get the best of me.

There is notable scene that made me tear up a bit. The scene where Seokryu read the first comment she got from her food vlog. It was short but as someone who related, it sure dug deep. So, I love how the food vlog that Seokryu ended up doing is something that is 'healthy' and made to be able to cater those who have and had cancer. I love the writer for this.

Overall, there were some flaws in this episode but I enjoyed it as usual. Seunghyo is so baby-coded. He is so hilarious. The signs from god were so epic. I am loving their dad's combo. Plus, the dumb & dumber Seunghyo + Danho combination. I definitely laughed a lot. Yay! finally they got caught but not in spicy scene ahaha then Proposal next week!!

been there and unfortunately, still here. Feeling afraid of what the future lies in front because of your illness.…
Agreed. I am not someone who suffered from it myself, but witnessing my dad fight those battles and the reoccurrence. It is something that I think people who had never been into such would never understand.
